Marriott International Collaborates with Playa Hotels & Resorts to Bring The Luxury Collection Brand to Cap Cana

Marriott International, Inc. and Playa Hotels & Resorts (NASDAQ: PLYA, Playa), a leading owner and operator of all-inclusive resorts in Mexico and the Caribbean, today announced an agreement between Francisco Martínez, the owner of Sanctuary Cap Cana, and Marriott International to debut Marriott’s first all-inclusive extension of The Luxury Collection brand in the Dominican Republic with Sanctuary Cap Cana, a Luxury Collection Adult All-Inclusive Resort. The new resort is expected to open in summer 2022 under The Luxury Collection brand.

Nestled in the heart of the Dominican Republic, the resort is located in Cap Cana, a private enclave in Punta Cana comprised of 30,000 acres of flawless beaches. Visitors will experience a wide variety of attractions, including the “Punta Espada” golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus, a state-of-the-art marina with more than 150 slips accommodating yachts up to 150-feet, as well as an equestrian center featuring two world-class polo fields designed by Alejandro Batros.

The adults-only 325-room resort underwent a renovation in 2019 and includes five a la carte restaurants, six bars, five pools, and Sanctuary Town, the resort’s own nightlife destination. Owned by Francisco Martínez, Sanctuary Cap Cana is expected to become the first Playa managed resort under a Marriott International brand.

The 205 thoughtfully designed guestrooms and suites offer sweeping views of the city skyline and the Yarra River. Overlooking the famed banks of the River Talek and on the edge of the reserve, JW Marriott Masai Mara Lodge’s prime location will offer guests a distinctively elevated camp from which to discover the Masai Mara National Reserve, its stunning vistas, abundant wildlife, and endless plains. Plans for the new-build lodge feature 20 private tents, including one presidential canvas-topped pavilion and two interconnecting canopied suites, ideal for families, each with a private terrace overlooking the river.

Shared spaces will include a restaurant, lounge bar, spa, and a large outdoor terrace with fire pits that will play host to traditional Masai dance performances in the evening. The untamed landscape will offer guests the opportunity to observe the “Big Five” that Masai Mara is home to: lions, leopards, buffalos, rhinoceros and elephants. Between June and September, the reserve is also host to the annual great wildebeest migration, when more than 10 million animals travel a distance of 1,800 miles from the Serengeti in neighbouring Tanzania.

The expertly manicured landscaping was designed by architect Sérgio Santana, who prioritized native trees from the Atlantic Forest and plants from the natural biome to attract birds and native animals.

W Dubai – Mina Seyahi features 318 rooms including 27 suites – all sea-facing with a private balcony – where guests can take in Dubai’s vibrant sunsets over the Arabian Gulf, Palm Jumeirah Island and iconic landmarks such as the Ain Dubai. The chic design blends accents of traditional Middle Eastern elements in a bright, inviting space with thoughtful touches. Vibrantly hued interiors and custom furnishings featuring layers of highly textured fabrics with modern lustre honor the destination and its trade route heritage. Separate living, vanity and sleeping spaces, as well as the brand’s signature Mix Bar, are welcomed luxuries.

For the most elevated experience, the Extreme WOW Suite – W’s twist on a Presidential Suite – perched on the 30th floor is a 3,000 square-foot contemporary space featuring two bedrooms, a lounge, dining area and a balcony with sweeping views of the city below.

Something for Every Appetite

W Dubai – Mina Seyahi’s dining and nightlife options will captivate travellers and locals who gather in search of local and globally inspired flavors, or a tucked-away cocktail lounge. Located on the second floor, Ginger Moon is W Dubai – Mina Seyahi’s urban all-day club experience offering innovative lunch, sunset and dinner menus. Airy and light, this seamless indoor-outdoor space opens to an expansive terrace leading to an infinity pool that highlights panoramic views from the Mina Seyahi Bay. The W brand’s signature take on the poolside scene – WET Deck – offers guests a fresh space to soak up the sun poolside or under the refreshing shade of a cabana while enjoying cocktails, bites and eclectic music.

Opening June 2022, ATTIKO is a sleek, high-energy rooftop lounge set to become the latest hotspot in the city. Set to open in 2023, Malakite beach club and pool will be ideally situated on the private beach, accessible only to residents and hotels guests, offering a two-in-one concept in over 86,000 square feet of space, set around a 50-meter-long pool and private beach. Sun-seekers can expect surprise performances throughout the day and, as the sun sets, the action will move into the nearly 13,000 square-foot indoor arena for a spectacle of talented artists that will redefine the entertainment experience for Dubai residents and travelers alike.

BAR-B Spa Balances Mind and Body

Cocktails, socializing and being pampered are at the heart of the BAR-B spa. Featuring four treatment rooms, a beauty bar and relaxation areas, BAR-B offers stand out facials and full-body therapies. The fitness center – 1REBEL/FIT – will mark the UAE debut of UK-born 1Rebel – the ultimate sports-luxe fitness experience – in 2023 with a 27,000 square-foot, dual-story studio in the hotel.

Marriott International Celebrates Its 1,000th Hotel in Europe, Middle East and Africa

Marriott International, Inc. (NASDAQ: MAR) today celebrated the launch of The Westin London City, its 1,000th hotel in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). A flagship Westin Hotel that seamlessly balances London’s always-on energy with the wellness promise for which the brand is known, the property also marks the debut of the Westin Hotels & Resorts brand in the UK market.

As the company celebrated this milestone, it also announced that across 2022 and 2023, it expects to add more than 200 properties, which equates to 38,000 rooms, in Europe, Middle East and Africa

Select-Service Spearheads Growth in Europe

Marriott International’s select-service brands, such as AC by Marriott, Moxy Hotels, Courtyard by Marriott, Residence Inn by Marriott, Aloft Hotels, Element Hotels and Four Points by Sheraton, continue to spearhead growth across Europe, accounting for more than 50 percent of the company’s current signed pipeline of hotels in the Europe region. Moxy Hotels, Marriott’s bold and experiential hotel brand created for the young at heart, is slated to add more than 26 additional hotels to its portfolio in the region across 2022 and 2023, with planned openings including the Moxy Liverpool City Centre (UK), Moxy Paris East (France) and Moxy Pompeii (Italy).

Set to make its European debut in 2023, Fairfield by Marriott is expected to see two hotels open next year – the Fairfield by Marriott Badhoevedorp Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (The Netherlands) and Fairfield by Marriott Copenhagen Nordhavn (Denmark). With its effortlessly relaxed and efficient hotel design paired with a contemporary Northern European aesthetic, the brand continues to attract interest from owners across the region.

The extended-stay segment remains extremely resilient in Europe, especially with the rise of multi-purpose travel. Last year, the company opened four Residence Inn by Marriott hotels across Europe and plans to extend its reach with 15 more Residence Inn by Marriott hotels expected to open in city hotspots like Naples (Italy), Vienna (Austria) and Paris (France) across 2022 and 2023.

Conversions continue to be an important driver of rooms growth across Europe, particularly from independent hotels, given the appeal of Marriott’s powerful distribution systems. Conversions represent approximately 30 percent of the expected hotel openings in Europe across 2022 and 2023, and owner interest remains high for the company’s robust portfolio of collection brands – Autograph Collection Hotels, The Luxury Collection, and Tribute Portfolio.

Luxury Booms in the Middle East

Luxury hotels and residential properties continue to be in high demand with consumers, especially across the Middle East, representing over 20 percent of the company’s signed pipeline units in the region. This year’s highly anticipated openings include W Dubai – Mina Seyahi, slated to open in April 2022, and in May this year, the company expects to introduce The Ritz-Carlton brand in Jordan with the opening of The Ritz-Carlton, Amman.

The company also continues to support the growth of the tourism sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with four luxury hotels expected to open across 2022 and 2023. Planned additions include two luxury hotels at the highly anticipated Red Sea Project including The St. Regis Red Sea Resort. Qatar is also expected to see the addition of four luxury hotels across 2022 and 2023, including the stunning Palais Vendôme, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Doha and The Doha EDITION.

Marriott also continues to see growth in the branded residential sector in the Middle East, heralding a new era of residential luxury. Branded residences are poised to meet evolving lifestyle changes and growing interest from homeowners in on-demand amenities and services from trusted brands. Marriott recently opened W Residences Dubai – The Palm, which features 104 homes spread over eight mansions, and expects to add four more branded residential projects in the Middle East across 2022 and 2023, including The Residences at The St. Regis Marsa Arabia Island, The Pearl Qatar.

Continued Expansion Across the African Continent

The recent signing of the JW Marriott Masai Mara Lodge in Kenya is expected to mark the brand’s debut in the country and in the luxury safari space, reinforcing Marriott International’s commitment to the African continent.

The company expects to open more than 20 hotels in Africa across 2022 and 2023. Among these are six Protea Hotels by Marriott properties, including the 200-room Protea Hotel by Marriott Accra Kotoka Airport in Ghana and Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! by Marriott Polokwane in South Africa. These hotels will give guests a taste of the local flavour in a truly authentic way. The expected openings across the region also include five Four Points by Sheraton hotels, marking the brand’s debut in Rwanda with the Four Points by Sheraton Kigali and the brand’s expansion in Nigeria with the addition of Four Points by Sheraton Ikot Ekpene.
