Phetchaburi is the fifth province in Thailand to have earned the UCCN title, after Phuket was named a Creative City of Gastronomy in 2015, Chiang Mai a Creative City of Crafts and Folk Arts in 2017, Bangkok a Creative City of Design in 2019 and Sukhothai a Creative City of Crafts and Folk Arts in 2019.

Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, TAT Governor, said, “The addition of Phetchaburi to the UNESCO Creative Cities Network as a Creative City of Gastronomy is much welcomed and could not have come at a better time, with Gastronomy featuring as a key element of the ‘Visit Thailand Year 2022’ new tourism marketing campaign.”

Located around 160 km south of Bangkok, Phetchaburi is known for the production of high quality sea salt and key limes, palm sugar, rose apples, pineapples and bananas among other items, giving it the nickname ‘City of Three Tastes’ – for salty, sweet and sour. The farm-to-fork practice is also in use in the province, where farmers deliver fresh produce and seafood direct to food outlets and manufacturers as well as local households.

Phetchaburi is synonymous with a number of local dishes having gained particular popularity and for its production of certain food products. Local recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation, cuisine from the royal courts of Ayutthaya and Rattanakosin, and Chinese and Mon cuisine have combined into dishes unique to Phetchaburi.

Among the well-known dishes that reflect Phetchaburi’s cultural roots are Kaeng Kua Hua Tan (toddy palm curry), Khanom Cheen Thotman (fermented rice-flour noodles with fried fish cake), Khao Chae (rice soaked in water accompanied by a variety of side dishes) and Kuaitiao Nam Daeng (red-soup noodles).

Tourists visiting Phetchaburi can combine the delectable cuisine on offer with exploration of the various attractions. These include Phra Nakhon Khiri Historical Park or as it’s also known locally Khao Wang (meaning ‘hill with palace’) with its palace and temple buildings on a hill overlooking the city; the temples Wat Mahathat Worawihan, Wat Kamphaeng Laeng, Wat Yai Suwannaram; and picturesque beaches the most famous being Cha-am.

Last but not least, Kaeng Krachan National Park which covers part of Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, and Ratchaburi provinces, at 464,000 hectares is the largest national park in Thailand, and is known for its wildlife watching, hiking and ‘sea of mist’ views during the cooler months of November to February. It is also home to Kaeng Krachan Forest Complex which was recently added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

Since its debut in 2006, the Honda LPGA Thailand has become one of the most popular women’s tournaments in Asia and on the LPGA Tour calendar, boasting stellar fields annually and an honours list that includes some of the greats of the game including Suzann Pettersen (2007), who has had over 22 professional career wins. Golfing sensations that have had exhilarating wins at the tournament include Lorena Ochoa (2009), a former long-reigning world number one; Yani Tseng (2011 & 2012), five-time Major Championship winner and Inbee Park (2013), former Grand Slam champion and Olympic gold-medalist.

While Honda LPGA Thailand 2021 was held behind closed doors, the tournament still proved to be successful and one of the most iconic sporting events in Thai history. From the word go, the tournament was a celebration of Thai golf talent with Patty Tavatanakit and teenage phenomenon, Atthaya Thitikul slugging it through the opening rounds. In the end, it was another local favourite, Ariya Jutanugarn who rallied in the final round to finally get her hands on the elusive Honda LPGA Thailand crown.

Following the adversities brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Thai government has recently shared their new focus to restore confidence amongst locals with several domestic and international projects throughout the country. This comes following the decision from Thai authorities coinciding with the reopening of the country with eased regulations for fully vaccinated travelers from 63 low-risk countries. This is to support the mission to reboot Thailand’s tourism industry as it is on the road to positive recovery after 18 months of COVID-19 restrictions.

For the first time in its long history, InterContinental Phuket Resort worked alongside with “Chef Ton”, a celebrity chef celebrated for his prominence in Thai cuisines with creative twists and high-quality ingredients. He runs the restaurant Le Du, his own modern Thai restaurant recognized as the fourth best restaurant in the latest Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants and aptly decorated with a Michelin star as a mark of world-class recognition.

The opening event: “Jaras x Le Du” welcomed our guests to the seaside Thai cuisine fine dining experience delicately prepared by “Chef Ton”, a greatly renowned chef in charge of the Le Du restaurant together with our own “Chef Banky” (Chatchawan Warahajirakul), the best chef in charge of our proudly Jaras restaurant. The event’s main attraction was 5-course Omakase (designed by chef) style Thai cuisine paired with premium wines expertly selected by our sommeliers.

The course started with a Southern style amuse-bouche that packed a spicy punch: “Nam Prik Goong Seab”, the famous Phuket shrimp paste reimagined as a savory mousse served with banana prawns and fresh garden vegetables. Next on the plate is the familiarly sounding “Namm Kor Moo Yang” (flame grilled fermented pork) but the familiar name came with special twists. The 3-day fermented pork was made with Kurobuta pork (Berkshire pork) from Nan province elevated with our special seasoning to a new height of flavors. The next dish that came in a bowl was “Tom Klong Pla Mong”, a delicate soup made from Andaman trevallies aged for 7 days in smoked fish broth and aromatized with lemongrass and mushroom puree to the Thai’s true spicy tastes. Then came the main course: “Ped Pa Lo”, or duck stewed in five-spice jus balanced with white pears in white wine, cured beetroot, radish, and mandarin. And to finish the course, a whimsical dessert “Pork Blood Pudding” was brought to the table. The rich and smooth sweet basil ice-cream was accompanied with pork blood pudding, bringing surprise along with the sublime dessert.

For our “Pine x Le De”, the Phuket’s most-talked-about Sunday brunch was made even more special with Thai cuisines exclusively reimagined by “Chef Ton” of Le Du. The creations included Oyster with Cilantro and Chili Granita, Crudo of Hamachi with Phla Sauce, Grilled Squid with Turmeric and Passion Fruit Sauce, Goong Rom Kwan in Galangal Curry, Gaeng Pla Korat, Lamb Massaman Curry, and Tonkatsu Pork Neck with Curry Sauce along with various menus for our guests to enjoy with Kamala beach’s great scenery, great music from our DJs, and free-flow Champagne.

During the mission on 2-3 November, 2021, the TAT’s high-ranking delegation signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Etihad Airways, introduced the latest tourism marketing campaign to Emiratis and influencers in the UAE, and discussed tourism collaboration with Air Arabia and Oman Air.

Mr. Thosaporn Sirisumphand, TAT Chairman of the Board of Directors, said, “Next year, 2022 will mark a new chapter for Thailand as it will be the year of ‘Visit Thailand’ where throughout the year, we will invite travellers from around the world to experience the “Amazing New Chapters” of Thailand. As such our key messages will highlight the abundance of the kingdom’s tourism products and services that will fulfil all visitors’ travel desires, because from A to Z, Thailand has it all.”

Prior to the official start of the ‘Visit Thailand Year 2022’, Thailand is currently welcoming fully vaccinated foreign visitors from 63 countries and territories, including the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia to enter the Kingdom without quarantine requirements under the Exemption from Quarantine (Test & Go) and the Living in the Blue Zone (17 Sandbox destinations) entry schemes, starting from 1 November, 2021.

The list of approved countries will be expanded later to cover the entire world from 1 January, 2022. Meanwhile, the “Thailand Pass” web-based system has been launched to support the “Ease of Travelling” policy, allowing foreign travellers to fill in their travel and health information and upload the related documents before travelling to Thailand.

The timing could not have been better, for TAT and Etihad Airways to support each other in promoting Thailand as a preferred destination. Both signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to form a long-term strategic partnership to develop and promote quality tourism experiences in Thailand for travellers from the Gulf Region.

Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, TAT Governor, said, “This Letter of Intent will pave the way for strategic tourism collaboration efforts between TAT and Etihad Airways with an emphasis on revenue-generating quality tourists. We expect this partnership to help strengthen the position of Thailand as a popular destination for Arab travellers from the Gulf Region.”

Under the LoI agreement, TAT and Etihad Airways will put into effect a range of joint promotions to mutually increase tourism and visibility for Thailand through the Etihad Airways global network. The promotions will focus on niche tourism markets; such as, sports tourism, luxury tourism, as well as health and wellness.

The Letter of Intent (LoI) between the TAT and Etihad Airways was signed in Dubai on 3 November, 2021, by Mr. Chattan Kunjara Na Ayudhya, Deputy Governor for International Marketing – Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Americas, and Ms. Amina Taher, Vice President Brand, Marketing and Sponsorship, Etihad Airways.

The TAT’s high-ranking delegation also discussed tourism collaboration efforts with Air Arabia and Oman Air during the marketing mission to Dubai.

The visa-on-arrival policy for nationals in the Gulf Region coupled with the Exemption from Quarantine (Test & Go) entry scheme present prospects for both Air Arabia and Oman Air to reconsider resuming services to Thailand. Now in its second year, this special Korean culinary event runs for two weeks, from Nov. 15-30, with à la carte dishes in Metropole Hanoi’s Le Club Bar, in addition to bar bites and cocktails at angelina, the hotel’s cocktail bar, whisky lounge and restaurant.

The event kicks off Monday, Nov. 15 from 11am-2pm with a private lunch at La Veranda. This invite-only affair will include canapés and two live cooking stations featuring Korean dishes.

The dishes on Chef Joseph’s special à la carte menu are inspired by popular Korean folktales. These include Liver Parfait with Assorted Namul Muchim, a Foie gras parfait inspired by the tale of a smart rabbit that makes use of a variety of mountain herbs found in Korea. Stuffed Persimmon with Creamy Halibut Tartar and Citrus is inspired by the humorous folktale known as the Tiger and Persimmon. Drawing from the Fairy and the Woodsman, Velvety Lobster on Gondrae Jook & Paprika Leathers features lobster brushed with seaweed butter, congee and paprika leathers. Inspired by the same story, Gochujang Glazed Wagyu Beef & Paprika Crisps features a dish covered in fallen “autumn leaves” of sweet potato and paprika crisps atop Wagyu beef glazed with gochujang sauce on a bed of sweet potato mash.

Chef Joseph is the chef-owner of the restaurant Evett in the South Korean capital, which showcases a tasting menu based on Korean ingredients and traditional food, taking a fresh perspective, with ideas and techniques gathered from around the world.

Due to ongoing travel restrictions, Chef Joseph will be unable to personally join the event, but Metropole Executive Sous Chef Thien Nguyen and Culinary Guide So Yeon Kim will present the food according to Chef Joseph’s exclusive recipe and procedures.

The Norman-designed courses feature 36 total holes. The 18-hole PGA Ocean Course opened in April 2021 as one of the longest tracks in Vietnam, at 7,400 yards (par 72), and plays along the picturesque Phan Thiet Bay. The second 18-hole course is scheduled to debut later this year.

The new “Tee Off Time” golf package at Azerai Ke Ga Bay features a two-night stay in a Deluxe Suite with a garden view, daily breakfast for two persons, and a golf round of 18 holes for two adults (including green fee, caddy fee, shared buggy and roundtrip transfers to and from the golf course) on the PGA Ocean Course.

The package also includes a priority upgrade to a higher room category (depending on availability), daily afternoon tea from 3:30pm to 4:30pm, and complimentary Wifi throughout the resort, among other perks.

PGA NovaWorld Phan Thiet is home to a spacious, 4,000-square-meter clubhouse selling food and beverages (including alcohol), as well as golf equipment and apparel.
