Swiss-Belhotel International Ups Expansion Plans - Hotelworlds.com - TRAVELINDEXDubai, United Arab Emirates, May 11, 2022 / TRAVELINDEX / Swiss-Belhotel International has announced ambitious expansion plans with a strategic focus on Central and Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa. As part of the move the group recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Odyssey Group to support its expansion in Japan.

Swiss-Belhotel International is looking at other asset management alliances globally to support its expansion and is presently negotiating on more opportunities. This is a real pivot and change in the expansion approach by working with third party asset managers and investment bankers.

Making the announcement at the Arabian Travel Market, Mr. Gavin M. Faull, Chairman and President of Swiss-Belhotel International, stated, “We are well placed to take advantage of the growing confidence in travel and very excited to continue our global expansion with a strong focus on Central and Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Working closely with our owners we have been successfully navigating the unprecedented challenges posed by the pandemic and look forward to driving value to our owners, associates, employees, and guests through our diverse brands.”

As part of its robust expansion in Southeast Asia, Swiss-Belhotel International has recently set up a regional office in Thailand. The company is looking to capitalize on new opportunities in priority markets like Thailand and Vietnam where it has multiple hotel projects in advanced negotiations.

Mr. Faull added, “While we are particularly pleased with our progress in Thailand and Vietnam, Southeast Asia as a whole offers tremendous opportunity to expand our footprint further. Our collaboration with the Odyssey Group, which is one of Asia’s leading mid-market private market asset managers providing differentiated and bespoke investment solutions across multiple asset classes, is aimed at bolstering our expansion in Japan.”

As the travel market continues to recover, Swiss-Belhotel International is also looking to increase its presence in Africa with several deals under negotiation. “African countries are still underserved by branded hotel supply despite solid domestic demand. UNWTO & Save The Children Partner for Education Central America & Caribbean - TRAVELINDEXSanto Domingo, Dominican Republic, May 11, 2022 / TRAVELINDEX / The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and Save the Children Dominican Republic have launched a new challenge to promote the development of educational ideas and experiences through the tourism sector in Central America and the Caribbean.

Read all the latest UNWTO News and Updates here.

The challenge seeks innovative and technological proposals in ‘Early Stage’ development that offer new educational opportunities through the tourism sector. The challenge has two categories:

  • New technologies: People or startups that promote the use of technology to provide solutions to the tourism and education sector.
  • Local impact: People or startups that promote transformation and social improvement, and that belong to the tourism and education sector.

Tourism is a leading provider of opportunities for young people throughout Central America and the Caribbean

According to Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization, Zurab Pololikashvili, “tourism is a leading provider of opportunities for young people throughout Central America and the Caribbean, and innovation and new technologies can help us reach more young people, allowing them to benefit as tourism returns to the region.”

“For our organization, the launch of this challenge represents a unique opportunity to capitalize on the potential of the tourism sector in our country and the region, thus generating innovation in favor of childhood education with a high social impact,” says Juan Tomás Díaz, President Save the Children Dominicana.

Tourism for the SDGs

Projects must be aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nations. Additionally, they must be framed in one (or several) of the following areas:

  • The management of destinations or the private management of solutions/products/services developed around and education as tourism and education products;
  • Seeking a balance between sustainable development and the profitability of the project, maximizing its positive impacts.
  • The connection with the market and the user experience in all phases of the journey

Applications are open until 25 June, 2022. The winning projects will be selected based on several criteria, such as the degree of innovation, and its viability and sustainability. The winners will be invited to the Tourism Tech Adventure in the Dominican Republic that will take place in November 2022.

Tourism education for empowerment

Tourism is one of the largest sectors in the world, accounting for more than 4% of direct global GDP in 2019. In the Americas, the contribution of tourism to regional GDP fell from 3.4% to 1.6% during the pandemic. Central America and the Caribbean represent 4.8% of global international arrivals, and reflect the potential in all tourism sub-sectors, and their needs for good training and education.

After the effects of COVID-19, this sector is reinventing itself to achieve more responsible, innovative and accessible tourism. The pandemic has also disrupted education systems around the world, highlighting that digital learning must become an essential service available to all. This means that all children and young people have access to first-rate digital solutions that facilitate personalized learning and open the doors to a better future.

UNWTO supports digital education and innovation initiatives promoted by Startups and small and medium-sized enterprises, which will play a leading role in the revival of tourism in the coming years.

Accor Announces Global Launch of All-Inclusive Collection

500 267 wttc2

Accor Announces Global Launch of All-Inclusive Collection - TRAVELINDEX - HOTELWORLDS.comAntalya, Turkey, May 10, 2022 / TRAVELINDEX / Accelerating its expansion in the fast-growing market with a unique platform of multi-branded luxury and premium offers. Focusing on experiences through high-quality entertainment and wellness program. Unrivalled and diverse F&B concepts.

Accor, a global hospitality leader, today announced that it is accelerating its expansion in the all-inclusive market with the launch of its multi-branded All-Inclusive Collection – an attractive offering that will see the Group double down on this fast-growing segment by building upon the success of the Rixos brand. The platform will incorporate the key strengths of Accor’s brands and leverage the Group’s leading market position in the luxury and premium segments. Building on Rixos’ invaluable 20+ years of experience in the luxury-all-inclusive market. The offering will look to provide exciting and memorable experiences globally.

Accor entered into a joint venture with Fettah Tamince, founder of Rixos Hotels, in 2016 to develop the All-Inclusive segment. The partnership has proved to be great success with Rixos successfully tripling its network (including committed pipeline) over the last 5 years. Rixos is a leading global player in the luxury all-inclusive segment and the dominant market leader in Turkey, the Middle East and Central Asia with 24 hotels and over 10,000 rooms in operation and a further 26 hotels with over 14,000 rooms in the pipeline.

Building upon the success of Rixos, Accor is significantly expanding its all-inclusive offering by including its luxury and premium brands with Fairmont, Sofitel, Pullman, Swissôtel and Mövenpick in the Collection. The objective is to leverage the strength and visibility of these brands in the key target markets for expansion for the All-Inclusive Collection.

Fettah Tamince, Chairman of the Board of Rixos Hotels said: I am incredibly proud of the success Rixos has achieved in the five years as part of the Accor portfolio. Together, Accor and Rixos complement each other’s market-leading expertise, and the All-Inclusive Collection is the next step in accelerating their positions in the sector. This new initiative comes at a time when the demand for all-inclusive stays could not be stronger and now is the right time to leverage this positive trajectory. I am excited and pleased to continue my partnership with Accor with this expanded brand portfolio.

Carefully curated entertainment programmes, for both day and evening activities, will play a central role and will build on Rixos’ expertise in children’s clubs, fitness, watersports as well as in programming for outdoor activities and MICE. Guests can look forward to spectacular shows with breathtaking performances delivered by entertainers and multiple sporting activities per resort accompanied by world-class spa and wellness facilities.

This will be complemented by the exceptional quality and wide breadth of restaurant, bar, beach club and nightlife concepts, creating unforgettable guest experiences. The Collection’s programming in this space will be inspired and led by Carte Blanched, Ennismore’s F&B Concept Lab with each venue providing diverse and culturally relevant cuisines and culinary experiences. Ennismore is the leading lifestyle platform established by Accor in a joint venture with Sharan Pasricha.

International expansion of the all-inclusive business will be centered in Europe, Middle East Africa, Turkey, Asia and Central America and the Caribbean. These geographies have been selected for their promising growth potential in the all-inclusive segment and the strength of these brands in the target markets. The Collection will initially focus on the further expansion of Rixos’ footprint of 50 properties in the network and pipeline and will quickly scale and diversify as part of a longer term multi-branded strategy of having over 100 all-inclusive resorts in the next 5 years.

The Collection is set for a strong year of openings which will include: Rixos Gulf Hotel Doha, Rixos Qetaifan Doha, which includes one of the world’s largest waterparks. Both these resorts will open in time for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Also opening later this year the Swissôtel Sharm el Sheikh, the first non-Rixos branded property in the All-Inclusive Collection with 1,350 rooms, a water park, multiple dining, beach club and entertainment facilities.

Gaurav Bhushan, CEO Accor Lifestyle & Entertainment, Co-CEO Ennismore said: the post-Covid travel market is witnessing a renewed desire for leisure stays. Accor’s strategic decision to double down on the all-inclusive segment, the fastest growing sector in this market and build upon its success with Rixos, capitalizes on this opportunity. The new luxury and premium All-Inclusive Collection, reinforces our business model while increasing our exposure and value proposition for hotel owners.

Palace Hotel Tokyo Unveils New Premier Suites

1080 720 wttc2

Palace Hotel Tokyo Unveils New Premier Suites - TOP25HOTELS.com - TRAVELINDEXTokyo, Japan, May 9, 2022 / TRAVELINDEX / In celebration of Palace Hotel Tokyo’s tenth anniversary this May, the highly acclaimed property is cutting the ribbon on a new category of suites. Six Premier Suites were officially unveiled this month, adding a mid-range category to the hotel’s now-seven categories of suites, which range in size from 75 square meters to 250 square meters (810 – 2,690 square feet).

The hotel turned to the award-winning, luxury hospitality design firm that originally fashioned its interiors, G.A Group, to envision the new suites. Drawing on the elegant-simplicity aesthetic the hotel is known for and taking into account the growing demand for luxury accommodations that cater to longer-stay guests, the property conceived the 90-square-meter (970-square-foot) Premier Suites to better suit business and leisure travelers who desire more space for work and play.

“The luxury market has proven to be very resilient, as there’s always a demand for hotel suites tantamount to pied-à-terres among those accustomed to traveling the world and expecting their accommodations to exude the same level of luxury and sophistication as their own homes,” said Daisuke Yoshihara, president of Palace Hotel Co., Ltd. about the decision to expand the hotel’s offerings. “The addition of these new suites exemplifies our company’s commitment to continuously raising the bar on the products and services that we offer.”

Each Premier Suite’s living space features two distinct areas – a spacious lounge with ample seating and a separate, multi-purpose space in which to dine or work. In the bedroom, which comes outfitted with a dressing table, a walk-through closet leads to an ensuite bathroom with double vanity and separate soaking tub and rain shower. Guests can choose between a king-size bed or two oversized twin beds.

Spread over floors 10 – 15 of the hotel, each of the new suites features two separate balconies on which to dine alfresco while taking in views of Wadakura Fountain Park, the Imperial Palace gardens and the city skyline beyond. In keeping with the original design directive, the verdant landscape surrounding the property served as inspiration for the interiors, with textural elements and an earthy color palette of mossy green, soft browns and light taupe being drawn from the natural environment.

A number of design features add a sense of warmth and richness to the space, including polished timber floors, plush fabric wall coverings and bespoke rugs patterned to echo the wabi sabi beauty of moss as it emerges from untended spaces. Decorative elements range from contemporary Japanese ink wash paintings to sculptural porcelain and ceramic pieces.

The furnishings and artwork are all original and exclusive to Palace Hotel Tokyo, most having been commissioned specifically for the new suites. Curated by Art Front Gallery, the art pieces were all done by contemporary Japanese artists and chosen to reflect the hotel’s connection to nature and the beauty of its surroundings. Japanese sumi (ink wash) paintings reflecting award-winning artist Naoto Sunohara’s abstract, aerial perspectives on the vast Imperial Palace gardens and the green-roofed palace buildings situated within hang prominently in each suite.

In addition to the artwork, the destination is further reflected in uniquely Japanese touches such as the bath linens made in Imabari – a city renowned for over a century for the quality of its towel production – the nambu-tekki cast iron teapots, tea cups handmade in the traditional Mashiko-yaki style of pottery, and Echizen lacquerware tea cup saucers.

For optimum flexibility, each Premier Suite can be expanded into a two-bedroom unit when the adjoining Club Deluxe King or Twin with Balcony room is also booked. Suite guests also enjoy Club Lounge access and privileges, which include private check-in, check-out and concierge service as well as daily breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktails and canapés. A private meeting room that seats up to six as well as an outdoor terrace offering captivating vistas of Tokyo round out the 172-square-meter (1,851-square-foot) space’s facilities.

“There’s been a noticeable increase in the amount of time our guests spend on-property – particularly among domestic travelers, but also overseas business professionals traveling on tight schedules who prefer to host their meetings and entertainment at the hotel,” said Masaru Watanabe, Palace Hotel Tokyo’s senior managing director and general manager. “So, it’s important that we continue to adapt and expand our offerings to suit the ever-evolving lifestyles of our diverse clientele. With the debut of these new suites, we have every expectation that our guests will want to linger even longer.”

Premier Suites start from JPY 288,000++ per night.

World's First Fully Sustainable and Solar-Powered Yacht & Residence Club - TRAVELINDEX - SUSTAINABLEFIRSTElizabeth Island, Bahamas, May 7, 2022 / TRAVELINDEX / Ushering in a new era for Caribbean vacation home communities, Silent Resorts and EcoIsland Development announce Club Ki’ama Bahamas, the world’s first equity club to offer ultra-sustainable solar residences and carbon neutral solar yachts. Club Ki’ama is located within the new Ki’ama Bahamas enclave on Elizabeth Island, minutes from Great Exuma. It represents a one-of-a-kind co-ownership opportunity that combines luxurious solar-powered, oceanfront homes with a fleet of solar-powered and crewed yachts, as well as electric day boats, a beach club, spa and restaurant. Construction begins in May 2022 and, upon completion, Club Ki’ama will have the lowest environmental impact of any development in the Caribbean.

“Club Ki’ama represents the future for sustainable residential and resort development,” says Steve Dering, EcoIsland Development partner and global pioneer of the residence club co-ownership model. “It’s incumbent on us to protect Elizabeth Island’s ecologically sensitive environment while thoughtfully creating comfortable spaces where our owners and their guests can enjoy the best of the Bahamas. Our equity club provides abundant owner use while consuming less land with fewer homes and adds an incredible yacht experience. We’re hopeful that our first-of-its-kind club and community will set the standard for eco-conscious development around the world.”

The Ki’ama Bahamas community, Club residences, and facilities were designed by Silent Resorts CEO and founder Victor Barrett. The single-story Club residences will be constructed using linear designs that complement the natural topography of the island. They feature 10- to 12-foot ceilings for enhanced ventilation and light, “living roof” landscape systems, solar panels, and structural timber frames designed to withstand a Category 4 hurricane. The pre-engineered building system allows for the bulk of construction to take place off-island, minimizing disruption to the natural landscape and reducing construction delays and costs.

“We are thrilled to announce our first community for Silent Resorts,” said Barrett. “Sustainable development has long been a passion of mine and Club Ki’ama will bring this to life with state-of-the-art solar technology and sustainable building practices unlike any in the resort and residential markets. We’re excited for our Club owners and their guests to experience a smart, responsible way to own and a new way to travel.”

Club Ki’ama will feature 16 four-bedroom residences and eight yachts. The introductory ownership price is $525,000. Owners will enjoy a minimum of five weeks of vacation annually, including 10 yacht days, and have additional use subject to reservation policies and availability. Club Ki’ama ownership also grants immediate access to the prestigious Elite Alliance exchange program with more than 120 coveted international destinations.

Combining one-of-a-kind land and sea adventures, Club Ki’ama will make a fleet of eight crewed, fully catered, solar-powered Silent Yachts available to owners. These remarkable 60- to 80-foot luxury catamarans eliminate the major drawbacks of traditional yachts – the environmental impact and noise of fossil fuel engines, high operating costs, and expensive maintenance – without diminishing the pleasures that make yachting one of the ultimate vacation experiences.

The Ki’ama Bahamas community will serve as a worldwide example for sustainable development. Much of the resort will be constructed on piers to avoid land excavation or fill using “carbon negative” pre-engineered building structures with near-zero construction waste. All residences, yachts, buildings and amenities will be fully and independently solar powered. The resort also utilizes highly efficient, advanced water purification and wastewater treatment systems. In addition to its environmentally friendly energy, water and building systems, only 18 percent of the total land area will be developed, leaving most of the Ki’ama property undisturbed and left in its natural habitat.

The eco-conscious island sanctuary will feature the oceanfront Club Ki’ama Beach Club, Spa & Restaurant. As the centerpiece of the community, the Beach Club will be uniquely constructed in “tent & timber,” utilizing the highest quality natural fabrics, bamboo and timber with very little impact to the environment.

The removed-but-not-remote location of Club Ki’ama is 36 acres on Elizabeth Island, a private island in Elizabeth Harbour, with a two-acre protected marina and six private beaches. Upon flying into Exuma International Airport, owners take an electric water taxi from George Town Dock to the island, a 10-minute ride. Within 130 nautical miles of the island are more than 365 cays and other islands to be explored on the Club yachts and electric day boats. Ki’ama Bahamas also offers eight spectacularly sited five- and six-bedroom estate homes.
