WHO STAYS WHERE?

1000 929 wttc2

New research on Airbnb rentals around the world reveals the travel destinations with the largest offerings of potential Airbnb stays, which locations offer the most expensive and most affordable Airbnb rates on average. Not much of a surprise – London, Paris and New York City lead the way. Unfortunately, no Canadian city makes the top 20.

The research reveals:
• London has as many as 34,135 active rentals on the market. With almost 10,000 more Airbnbs than any other city, London has by far the most choice for travellers and the endless list of things to do.

• Paris takes second place it a great destination for travellers who don’t want to shoulder the expense of costly hotel rooms. With so many sights to see, from the top of the Eiffel Tower to the art-filled halls of the Louvre, a trip to Paris is an incredibly photogenic experience.

• Ranking third as the city with the most Airbnbs, New York City is also the 8th city with the most expensive Airbnb rates, honoring its reputation of being one of the most expensive cities in the world.

• Miami is crowned 19th on the rankings, with around 12,000 stays, that’s a small supply compared to the 58,000 hotel rooms on the market. However, the 20% share of Airbnb units is the fourth-highest of any city, behind only New York, L.A. and San Francisco.

Further study insights:

• Since 2019, the number of active Airbnb rentals has fallen across the board, with the total number of listings for the top 10 destinations falling from 303,535 to 209,682, which equals to a 30.92% drop.

• The city with the highest density of Airbnbs is Pattaya, Thailand, where there are 79.25 active rentals on the market for every 1,000 people living there.

• Ankara, Turkey, has the cheapest average daily rate for Airbnbs, with travellers paying as little as $26.67 per night

• Las Vegas is the most expensive place in our study to stay in an Airbnb, with average daily rates of $290

Melia Bali Helps Restore Coral Reefs

1080 810 wttc2

Melia Bali Helps Restore Coral Reefs - TRAVELINDEXBali, Indonesia, July 7, 2022 / TRAVELINDEX / Meliá Bali, an oceanfront resort situated along some of Bali’s most idyllic coastline, is making sure visitors can enjoy the sea for years to come through a hands-on collaboration with local non-profit, Nusa Dua Reef Foundation.

The resort is taking an active role in Bali’s coral reef recovery effort, and inviting guests to do the same. Through the joint project Meliá staff have undergone training on how to establish and protect coral, have learned how coral is grown, and have started to plant coral on a nearby reef, just ten minutes from the property.

Guests can show support for the initiative by purchasing coral through the resort, which will be used by Meliá Bali on their reef project. For each coral purchase, the guest will receive a certificate acknowledging their contribution. Upon special request the resort is able to arrange coral plantation activities for 10 or more participants, who would like to plant the coral themselves and learn about local marine life.

According to the Nusa Dua Reef Foundation in 2016 more than half of the coral reefs of Nusa Dua suffered from coral bleaching, where coral under stress turns completely white and becomes susceptible to a heightened risk of death. The foundation has been working to protect reefs around Bali since 2010 with the creation of artificial reefs and transplantation.

Meliá Bali started working together with Nusa Dua Reef Foundation to plant corals in March this year, and have so far planted three pieces of coral, ranging in size. The resort will support the reef’s expansion by adding two corals each month. So far the Nusa Dua Reef foundation has placed 62 artificial reef sculptures and 117 artificial reef structures at six locations underwater off Nusa Dua and Tanjung Benoa beaches.

Protecting the environment is an essential pillar of the growing global hotel group, Meliá Hotels International. The company was recently named the second most sustainable hotel company in the world in S&P Global’s Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA), the world’ most comprehensive sustainability assessment, which ranks more than 10,000 companies across all industries. Fusion Originals Makes its Saigon Debut

1080 720 wttc2

Fusion Originals Makes its Saigon Debut - TRAVELINDEXHo Chi Minh City, Vietnam, July 7, 2022 / TRAVELINDEX / Vietnam’s most recognized hotel group introduces its latest lodging experience. The first Fusion Originals, Fusion Original Saigon Centre, will welcome guests from July 2022. Located in Saigon Centre, atop the Takashimaya Shopping Mall, these 99 bespoke accommodation units occupy 10 floors in one of the city’s largest and most fashionable mixed-use developments. With panoramic views over District 1, this property is in the center of Ho Chi Minh City’s vibrant commercial and tourist area.

Fusion Original Saigon Centre offers a playful, youthful vibe with bold aesthetics and whimsical art pieces. Colorful walls with floor-to-ceiling paintings of Vietnamese women in traditional ao dai feature prominently in public spaces.

The restaurant, Miss Thu, also conveys local culture with a ceiling design reminiscent of Vietnam’s iconic hats, and wall lighting that evokes traditional drums. With access to a full-length outdoor swimming pool on the sixth floor, guests can enjoy lounging in a garden area. For quiet time, The Nest guest lounge offers a secluded area to unwind and relax in plush private sofa chairs.

“Travelers these days want to connect with a story; they want to feel part of the distinct narrative of a place,” said Kevin Beauvais, CEO of Fusion Hotel Group. “Traditionally, guests found the experience outside of where they stay. With Fusion Originals, there’s an experience in their accommodation. Saigon has many local sights; Fusion Original is now one of them.”

Fusion has big plans for Fusion Originals and is currently exploring multiple locations around the country. Like the Saigon Center inaugural property, these Fusion Originals will be designed to capture local fashion & culture, highlighting pioneers and trailblazers who have pushed boundaries in their respective fields.

“The opening of Fusion Original Saigon Centre is a great example of our company’s capabilities as a fully integrated platform. It showcases our in-house capabilities in brand creation, project development, hotel operations, and principal investing. We plan to aggressively grow the Fusion Originals brand, as well as other portfolio brands and investment initiatives as the travel market rebounds strongly in Vietnam and Southeast Asia,” shared Christopher Hur, President of Lodgis, the owning company.

A high standard of service remains at Fusion Originals, but the uniformity will stop there. The core pillar of the new brand is that no two properties will be alike. Each will have its own distinct personality and be one-of-a-kind. They will be Original.

Fusion Original is one of eight brands that now come under the Fusion umbrella. The fast-growing hotel group also recently added Thai-based GLOW Hotels & Resorts to its collection, as they expand regionally. With this new Saigon opening and the GLOW acquisition, Fusion has more than 4,000 rooms in Vietnam and Thailand.

“With our expanding brand portfolio, including a diverse range of properties in many of Vietnam and Thailand’s top tourist destinations, we believe we can cater to the growing needs and wants of a wider audience of travelers,” said Peter Meyer, CEO of Lodgis. “This is especially important as we rebound from the pandemic and as tourists look for more unique and inspiring travel experiences.”

Room rates at Fusion Original Saigon Centre start from USD160++.

The hotel will reflect the unmistakable energy of the Thai capital and infuse The Standard brand’s “anything but standard” ethos throughout the property.

It’s been a long time coming for the American boutique brand to finally make a grand opening for their Bangkok outpost after a few years of delays. Visitors will also have access to sweeping views of the city from the highest al fresco sky beach in Bangkok. On the ground floor, the shop will carry a highly curated collection of local and foreign fashion, travel and home goods as well as one of a kind collaborations. Check In To Curiosity: Marriott Hotels and TED Evolve Partnership with Debut of First-Ever Immersive Guest Rooms, Bookable Around the World
Check In To Curiosity: Marriott Hotels and TED Evolve Partnership with Debut of First-Ever Immersive Guest Rooms, Bookable Around the World

Marriott Hotels, the signature flag of Marriott Bonvoy’s 30 extraordinary hotel brands, furthers its partnership with idea engine TED through its award-winning educational arm TED-Ed, to debut their first-ever immersive experience outside of a TED conference. Aimed at sparking curiosity and enriching the experience of global travelers, the rooms feature interactive, mind-bending activities integrated into the Marriott Hotels guest room design. Recommended for families and friends ages seven and up, reservations for The Curiosity Room by TED can be made now for stays starting July 15 at San Francisco Marriott Marquis. Following the inaugural launch in San Francisco, guests can also book the discovery-based room at Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park and London Marriott Hotel County Hall later this summer with stays starting on August 15 and September 15, respectively. Each room experience will be live for three months at each location.

Recent social listening research conducted on behalf of Marriott saw a significant year-over-year uptick in searches for #themedrooms (+106%) and “hotel rooms” + themed (+65%), suggesting consumers are craving more distinct and inspiring hotel experiences.

Sparking curiosity from the start, guests embark on the adventure immediately upon entry to the room. The entire room is a puzzle box waiting to be solved. Puzzle elements have been seamlessly hidden within the décor; solving them all will lead guests to a grand finale and series of surprises and rewards. The puzzles have also been customized to the three destinations, featuring and celebrating local landmarks, culture, and more. Guests will uncover hidden messages, hunt for puzzle pieces, and experience elements of the room in unexpected and delightful ways. The room’s Curiosity Journal serves as the guide and connection to the one-of-a-kind in-room journey, with hints available in case guests need a helpful hand. When the final challenge has been completed, guests receive a certificate of completion and can celebrate with a complimentary dessert in the hotel’s restaurant.

“Marriott Hotels has always been a place where guests can be inspired at every corner of their experience and we’ve taken that to the next level with TED’s award-winning, educational arm TED-Ed,” said Jason Nuell, Senior Vice President, Premium Brands, Marriott International. “This one-of-a-kind adventure further fosters the notion for our guests to stay curious in their travels, opening their minds beyond a typical overnight stay and propel them to explore the destination with renewed desire to learn something new.”

Awe-inspiring décor elements have been expertly layered onto Marriott Hotels’ modern, residential guest room design to create a blended experience, with everyday hotel items serving as “keys” to unlock clues to help guests progress through the immersive space. Drawing inspiration from the hotel’s respective destination, the rooms feature eye-catching drawings by illustrator and artist Caleb Morris, who founded ‘Welcome to the Neighborhoods’ – an art series focused on creating unique connections between people and cities all over the world. In addition, throughout the room, guests will discover various moments of wonder as well as a guide of local travel recommendations curated by Marriott Hotels and TED, that encourage further exploration beyond the guest room – from the striking architecture of San Francisco to the culture of Bangkok and rich history of London. Guests will be able to take home some mementos, such as the travel guide, to leave a lasting impression of the trip.

Reservations for The Curiosity Room by TED are available now for the stay dates below:

“Watching millions of people view and share TED-Ed’s educational animated videos online every day is a profoundly rewarding experience for our team of creators,” said TED-Ed’s founding and executive director, Logan Smalley. “What really excites me about our partnership with Marriott Hotels, though, is that it will enable families throughout the world, for the first time ever, to experience a totally unique version of TED-Ed in person. I think everyone who participates will gain, in the most tantalizingly fun way possible, a deeper understanding and appreciation of TED-Ed and their destination, and I’m grateful to Marriott Hotels for making that possible.”

Marriott Hotels has a longstanding, global partnership with TED. The relationship began in 2016 by distributing TED Talks and TED Fellows Salons, blogs, and original quotes to hotel guests worldwide, and has continued to elevate every year with new elements of the partnership. Travelers staying at Marriott Hotels have access to custom content expertly curated by TED, with selected themes that are topical and relevant to guests including innovation, travel, entrepreneurship, and much more. Specifically, new TED-Ed content will now be available at hotels with video-based lessons that vary by subject and age.
