Bushtops Raises Bar for Wild Luxury

1080 632 wttc2

Bushtops Raises Bar for Wild Luxury - TRAVELNEWSHUB.comMara Bushtops in Kenya has shared the first images of their two fabulous family suites.  Their pre-existing family tent, the Leopard Suite, has been given a complete interior overhaul, whilst the Rhino Suite is a brand-new addition to meet the increasing demand.

Both family-friendly tents can accommodate up to six people (or simply provide a couple with acres of extra room), with a pair of private tents with their own ensuite bathrooms, linked by a chic interior lounge, complete with a well-stocked mini bar and coffee machine. The tents are identical in design and overlook  a busy wildlife corridor which leads from the surrounding hills down to the popular salt lick, ensuring fabulous game viewing. The family tents are also adjacent to the solar heated pool and facilities of the Amani Spa for easy access.  Designed by Andrin Schweizer, the genius behind so much of the Bushtops look and feel, the quality is exceptional, featuring a private hot tub on the generous deck, a stone dining table, a sunken lounge and private fireplace in front of the tent.

Rooms Revitalised and Reimagined at Serengeti Bushtops

Master of design Andrin Schweizer has just completely remodelled the interiors at Serengeti Bushtops in Tanzania, creating stylish, 5-star suites under canvas that embody the “wild luxury” experience that is so synonymous with Bushtops.

The redesigned suites now feature elegant new furniture and matching softs, with ceiling fans and subtle-lighting lanterns and generously stocked mini bars. Hand-cut slate from a local quarry has contributed dramatically to the revamped, upgraded bathrooms.

The camp also now offers four buggies, allowing guests to be shuttled with ease and speed between their suites and public areas, like mini safaris. Of course, nothing matches a proper game drive expedition in our open-sided Toyota 4x4s, but these buggies are always a big hit with guests.

A Beauty of a Beest

Speaking of game drives, the countdown has officially begun to launching our fabulous new beauty of a Beest, which will offer a one-of-a-kind safari experience in the Serengeti!   Watch this space… or contact claire@unlingo.co.uk for more information.

Pinto Lunch Sets All The Rage at The Kites

900 675 wttc2

A fun and colourful dining experience designed to “pack a punch on the senses”, INNSiDE By Meliá Bangkok Sukhumvit’s 31st floor all-day dining restaurant The Kites Eatery has launched “Pinto Lunch Set”.

Served in multi-coloured, round traditional Thai lunch boxes, named “pinto”, the four-course set lunch celebrates authentic Thai home-cooking with a starter, main course, side dish and dessert.

There are three different four-course sets to choose from, dubbed “Pinto Bang Rak”, “Pinto Banglamphu” and “Pinto Sao Chingcha”. All begin with “Nam Phrik”, a seasonal Thai dip with local vegetables.

Pinto Bang Rak features starter “Moo Tod Kamin” deep-fried pork belly with fish sauce and herbs, side dish “Tod Mun Pla Yang” charcoal grilled Thai fish cake, and main course “Gang Phed Ped” sous vide duck in red curry with seasonal fruit and basil.

Pinto Banglamphu’s starter, side dish and main are “Gai Yang Takrai” grilled chicken marinated with lemongrass, “Kai Jiew” authentic Thai omelette, and “Massaman Nuea” slow-cooked beef with aromatic herbs, respectively.

Pinto Sao Chingcha comprises starter “Laab Moo Tod” fried minced pork balls marinated with Thai herbs and spices, side dish “Pla Phad Phrik Thai Dam” stir-fried fish with black pepper, and main dish “Kai Palo Khun Mae”, executive chef Katisak Pinkaew’s mother’s recipe, made of egg and chicken cooked in sweet brown soup.

All three Pinto Lunch Sets’ main courses are served with “Khao Hom Mali” steamed jasmine rice. The dining experience is rounded off with “Khong Wan” daily desserts such as local coconut ice-cream, rice noodles with coconut cream, grass jelly with ice and brown sugar, or water chestnuts in coconut milk.

“Served against a backdrop of soaring windows giving way to spectacular views of Bangkok, our Pinto Lunch Sets pack a punch on the senses,” said the hotel’s general manager Aarron Nelson. “As you open the pinto boxes with various dishes that make for a riot of colour, the aromas are disarming and the tastes and textures of our fresh, local ingredients in our home-cooked, tried and true recipes can’t be beat.”

“You’re not only enjoying a meal but also a cultural journey. Pintos are traditionally used to transport home-cooked meals to work or school, maintaining the freshness and flavors of the food. The meticulous preparation and presentation of each dish reflect the Thai values of harmony and balance,” he added.

Offered daily from 12-3pm, a Pinto Lunch Set is priced at THB 300 net.

The Kites Eatery is adorned with abstract artwork of kites – a reference to the popular pastime of kite flying in state park Sanum Luang. Tapping local roots with fresh, colourful Thai cuisine, the restaurant’s chefs serve up central, northern, north-eastern and southern Thai cuisine a la minute using quality ingredients sourced from local farms. Open from 6.30am-11pm, The Kites Eatery offers a healthy buffet breakfast and a la carte menu from noon, as well as customised lunches and banquets for meetings and events.

Dusit Thani Kyoto Hotel Receives Coveted Michelin Key 2024

920 557 wttc2
dusit-thani-kyoto-hotel-receives-coveted-michelin-key-2024.jpg

Kyoto, Japan, August 1, 2024 / TRAVELINDEX / Located near Kyoto Station in the heart of Japan’s ancient former capital, Dusit’s first luxury hotel in the country has been officially recognised for offering ‘A very special stay. Dusit Thani Kyoto, a luxury urban oasis operated by Dusit International, one of Thailand’s leading hotel and property development companies, has been named among the first hotels in the world to receive a coveted Michelin Key from the Michelin Guide 2024.

Similar to the Michelin Star system for exceptional culinary experiences, the Michelin Key acknowledges hotels that deliver outstanding stays with One, Two, and Three Key distinctions. Introduced by the Michelin Guide in April 2024, Michelin Keys are awarded only to establishments demonstrating the ‘best of the best’ across five key areas – excellence in architecture and interior design, quality and consistency of service, overall personality and character, value for the price, and a significant contribution to the neighbourhood or setting.

To date, Michelin Keys have been awarded to hotels in France, Italy, Spain, and select locations in the United States. Japan is the first Asian country to receive Michelin Keys, and Dusit Thani Kyoto is one of only 85 hotels in the country to be named a One Michelin Key establishment. It is also the first Thai-branded hotel in Japan to receive this accolade.

Opened in September 2023, Dusit Thani Kyoto is located in the ancient former capital’s peaceful Hanganji Monzen-machi district, only 850 metres from the bustling Kyoto Station. Uniquely blending Thai-inspired gracious hospitality with Japan’s deep-rooted culture of omotenashi (meaning to wholeheartedly look after guests), the elegant hotel also features a distinctive design that masterfully blends the rich heritage of Kyoto with subtle Thai influences. This includes chedi-inspired motifs referencing the ancient Thai city of Ayutthaya, alongside the clean lines, natural materials, and subtle colour palette for which Kyoto is renowned. This unique fusion extends to the 147 meticulously appointed guest rooms, offering a harmonious balance of timeless elegance and contemporary charm.

Set around a serene and beautiful courtyard, Dusit Thani Kyoto offers a tranquil oasis for business and leisure travellers alike. Alongside elegant event spaces accommodating up to 240 guests, the hotel features the signature Devarana Wellness centre, where expert therapists deliver a unique fusion of ancient Thai massage therapies and traditional Japanese rituals. Additional well-being focused facilities include a well-equipped fitness centre and an inviting indoor swimming pool.

Contributing to the hotel’s ‘outstanding’ Michelin Key distinction is a diverse range of unique culinary experiences. Guests can embark on a vibrant and interactive omakase journey at Kōyō, where the finest ingredients celebrate Kyoto’s unique 24 ‘micro-seasons.’ For a sophisticated evening experience, Den Kyoto beckons with its handcrafted cocktails served in a stylish ambience.

A truly one-of-a-kind experience awaits at Ayatana, the hotel’s signature Thai fine-dining restaurant, which features a unique multi-sensory culinary journey inspired by the rich cultures of both Thailand and Japan. This immersive concept was created exclusively for the hotel by acclaimed Thai chefs Duangporn ‘Bo’ Songvisava and Dylan Jones – a husband-and-wife team who earned global recognition, including a Michelin Star, at their former Bangkok restaurant, Bo.Ian.

The hotel’s dining experiences are further elevated by Dusit’s commitment to supporting local suppliers and destination-specific initiatives. This includes collaborating with TeaRoom Inc., a renowned sustainability-focused tea manufacturer, to set up the Dusit Tea Garden in Wazuka, a town on the southern edge of Kyoto Prefecture, to produce organic tea for the hotel’s restaurants. Dusit has also teamed up with OHARA FARMY, which supports the development of organic farms and sustainable land use, to create Dusit Farm, an expansive organic farm just 20 minutes by car from Kyoto. Alongside growing vegetables for use in the hotel’s restaurants, it also serves as a venue for memorable and meaningful guest activities, including hands-on vegetable harvesting experiences.

“Dusit Thani Kyoto is honoured to be among the first hotels in the world and the first Thai-branded hotel in Japan to receive One Michelin Key for the quality of service and experiences offered,” said Mr Gilles Cretallaz, Chief Operating Officer, Dusit International. “This recognition is a tribute to the dedication of the hotel team and our unwavering commitment to exceeding guest expectations at every touchpoint. This award also serves as a testament to the refreshed Dusit Thani brand, and a promise of the same high standards to be expected at our reimagined flagship Dusit Thani Bangkok, reopening on 27 September 2024, and other luxury Dusit Thani properties worldwide. As we follow our vision to uniquely deliver Thai-inspired gracious hospitality to the world, we look forward to pursuing further Michelin Key success at other Dusit destinations in the future.”

Dusit’s portfolio now includes 301 properties operating across 18 countries, including 57 properties operating under Dusit Hotels and Resorts and 244 luxury villas under Elite Havens, the leading provider of luxury villa rentals in Asia, which Dusit acquired in September 2018. More than 60 Dusit Hotels and Resorts are in the pipeline.

Tourism Consultant Alain St. Ange Speaks to the Tourism Trade in London

1061 655 wttc2
Tourism consultant Alain St.Ange speaks to tourism trade in London - TRAVELINDEX
Alain St.Ange with Fred Finn as they exchanged books in London.

London, United Kingdom, August 3, 2024 / TRAVELINDEX / Alain St.Ange was invited to London to address a group of tourism professionals and politicians on the subject of ‘sustainable tourism & on the importance of tourism as an industry for economic sector for the population at tourism destinations”.

On Friday as he took to the stage after a number of interventions by the meeting organisers for their regional offices and agents in the presence of a number of UK politicians, Alain St.Ange spoke about sustainable tourism as the needed way forward. He re-echoed a line he uses often “we have a duty to leave the world better than what it was when we embarked on economic development for our own benefit” he said as he was repeatedly asked to answer the points from the floor about the ‘tents popping up for the homeless in Hyde Park”.

Not wanting to be drawn into local UK politics, he said: – “The State must ensure iconic areas and sites that remain key USPs of London cannot be overtaken by the homeless and their tents. This is London, and we are talking about Hyde Park. Those responsible must find a suitable field for the tent city if needed, but UK cannot be displaying or encouraging sprawling tent cities over and above the numerous individuals camping by the roadside in between the shops in the city itself” he said.

Alain St,Ange navigated back to his ‘off the cuff’ address, his known style that continues to get him speaking engagements at tourism and aviation events. He moved to say that tourism as an industry must be geared to benefit the people as investors and entrepreneurs consolidated their investments. He said that the UK has navigated well but as was the case for the whole world, the time to revisit operating strategies was now. “You should not forget how it was when you were touched by COVID, and you know better than anyone else the need to keep tourism as an industry working” he said.

St.Ange touched on two tourism groupings from two worlds apart who have stepped forward to work to benefit their respective population and businesses, as he said that he had been appointed ‘Lead Patron’ of the Jamaica based Countrystyle Community Tourism Network (CCTN) Villages as Businesses and IIPT Caribbean, an organisation set to push small businesses forward in what he said was the base for sustainable development. He also addressed his home country Seychelles where the islands private sector trade, the Small Hotels & Establishments Association (SSHEA) recently designated him as the ‘Ambassador at Large’. In Seychelles tourism accommodation establishment of under 25 keys as reserved for the Seychellois and this ensures that the islanders can play a part in their island’s tourism industry.

“In both areas I am affiliated with I see sustainable development virtues where Small Establishments and businesses are run by locals. It must be remembered that at the very core of the Sustainability principle is the need for everyone in the community to be able to sustain themselves and their dependencies. Small hospitality entities owned and managed by residents offer numerous positive elements, including: 1. Authentic Cultural Experience where guests receive a genuine experience of the local culture, traditions, and lifestyle, which is often more enriching than what larger, more commercial establishments can offer. 2. Economic Benefits for Locals and these businesses will keep profits within the community, supporting local economies and providing jobs for residents. 3. Personalized Service and it is widely accepted that smaller entities can offer more personalized and attentive service, tailoring experiences to individual guest needs and preferences etc” he said.

Alain St.Ange, who is a tourism consultant with his ‘Saint Ange Tourism Consultancy’ went on to address that tourism remained the industry that can put money directly in the pockets of its population. “Large or small businesses can work and must be encouraged to work, but they would often need the State to guide through legislation for fair play and for removing operating obstacles” he said.

A long question and answer session followed.

Alain St.Ange ended by saying that he was delighted to have just now secured another invitation to address another event in Oxford in the UK in early October. “These are new forums, and I am delighted to be selected and called upon to address such important gatherings” he said.

In the evening, Alain St.Ange was hosted for a working dinned by Fred Finn, ‘The World’s Most Travelled Man’ as recognised by the Guiness Book of World Records who had just launched his ‘SONIC BOOM’ book. This was also the opportunity for St.Ange to offer Fred Finn a Biography on his life in Tourism, as Finn offered Alain St.Ange a copy of his book. Fred Finn knows the Seychelles well and the two have in the past worked together.

Jane Park Named PATA Face of the Future 2024 - TRAVELINDEXBangkok, Thailand, August 1, 2024 / TRAVELINDEX / The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) has awarded Jane Park, Assistant Manager – F&B Revenue Management & Operations at Hotel ICON, the title of Face of the Future 2024. Additionally, two exceptional candidates have also been recognised in the categories of Sustainability Initiatives and Strategic Management.

Since 2002, the PATA Face of the Future award has been bestowed to enterprising individuals whose leadership shines through their involvement with tourism campaigns, or demonstrated commitment to the sustainable development of the Asia Pacific travel industry in a spirit in line with the Association’s mission.

“The tourism industry must make a concerted effort in allowing the younger generation to be the thought leaders and permit them to shape the future of the travel and tourism industry, because, after all, they are the beneficiary,” said PATA CEO Noor Ahmad Hamid, “In embracing this crucial mindset change, we acknowledge the significant roles of the next generation who are more tech-savvy, quality-conscious, well-informed, and environmentally responsible-minded which can help drive innovation to the next level. As a leader in the travel and tourism industry, PATA recognises the huge contribution that the future generation can bring to the table as we can adopt their thinking processes into our mainstream strategy. The PATA Face of the Future is undoubtedly crucial in our effort to move towards the future tourism economy.”

Mayur Patel, Head of Asia OAG Aviation and PATA Executive Board Member, had been invited to act as the Head Judge for this year’s PATA Face of the Future judging panel. Mr Patel himself was named the PATA Face of the Future in 2002, the first in a longline of celebrated rising stars in the tourism industry who reflected on the true value of this award throughout the decades.

“PATA has consistently led in human capital development and in recognising and nurturing young tourism professionals. We applaud your participation in this special award, which celebrates an exceptional ‘rising star’ in the industry. As young leaders in this dynamic industry, you play a pivotal role in shaping the future of tourism, which evolves continuously with changing trends. Your passion and innovation are essential for driving the industry forward,” said Mr Patel.

Upon learning of her award, Jane Park remarked, “It is with great honour that I accept this prestigious award. Having graduated from the School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM) of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, which is ranked number one in hospitality and tourism management in the world, gives me a strong sense of commitment to excellence, for myself and the team I work with, from the kitchen to the guest area. I see countless possibilities to inspire staff to find pride and joy in the hospitality industry through our single independent property, Hotel ICON. I thank PATA for giving independent property staff like myself a chance, as I believe this sends a strong message that even small changes can make a big impact”

Ms Park graduated in 2021 with a Bachelor’s degree in Hotel Management from the School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. During her tenure in the Elite Management Trainee programme at Hotel ICON, she recognised that service staff are the essence of the hospitality industry, and their ability to deliver exceptional service is critical in fostering guest loyalty and enhancing brand reputation. To emphasise the significance of guest service, Ms Park successfully undertook two projects in collaboration with Hotel Executives at Hotel ICON, focusing on developing a revenue generation strategy and menu engineering for the Food & Beverage outlets.

In alignment with Hotel ICON’s philosophy, “We Love to Care,” Ms Park launched the Delight Your Guest programme, which enables staff at all levels to participate in the planning process and create memorable experiences for hotel guests. This programme has contributed to Hotel ICON being named the most reviewed hotel in Hong Kong SAR for 2022.

For her second project, Ms Park collaborated with the Director of Revenue and Marketing to develop a more sophisticated approach to planning, yield management, and forecasting for Food & Beverage operations. Implemented in April 2024, this new method has already led to an increase in market bookings despite challenging recovery conditions. By prioritising guest experience, fostering a collaborative environment, and promoting innovative revenue management strategies, Ms Park ensures that service staff can take pride in and derive satisfaction from their valuable contributions to the industry.

As the 2024 PATA Face of the Future, Jane Park has been invited to join the PATA Board, representing the youth community of the Association. Ms Park has also been granted full sponsorship for participation at PATA Travel Mart 2024, alongside other benefits as a winner.

This year, PATA has also awarded Amine Gabbouj, Coordinator of the IGLTA Foundation, recognition for Sustainability Initiatives, while Karnchana Phakpho, Chairperson of the International Tourism and Hospitality Management Programme at Bangkok University, received recognition for Strategic Management.

Amine Gabbouj is committed to promoting equality and advocating for LGBTQ+ tourism in developing destinations. In his role as the coordinator of the IGLTA Foundation, Mr Gabbouj channels his experience in international tourism management to foster transformative change within the industry.

Since founding the PATA Thailand Bangkok University Student Chapter in 2022, Karnchana Phakpho has devoted her efforts into guiding projects aimed at preserving environmental and tourism destinations. As chairperson and professor of the International Tourism and Hospitality Management Programme at Bangkok University, she continues to foster curriculum development and partnerships to ensure students excel in the industry.
