Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel with Enhanced Sustainability Performance - TOP25HOTELS.com - TRAVELINDEXMonte-Carlo, Monaco, March 28, 2022 / TRAVELINDEX / The Principality of Monaco has committed to cutting its greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030 from their 1990 levels and achieving full carbon neutrality by 2050. At the forefront of this challenge, Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort has been a leader in photovoltaic energy generation within the hospitality industry.

In partnership with Société monégasque de l’électricité et du gaz (SMEG – Monaco Power and Gas Company) Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort has installed a 1000sqm solar power plant composed of 788 tailored panels. Today it is the biggest rooftop photovoltaic energy system in Monaco. This project enables an energy saving of 160 MWh for a power generation of 154kWc, equivalent to almost all the outdoor lighting of the Hotel & Resort and equal to the annual consumption of around thirty dwellings.

To complement this renewable power generation, the Principality’s first Power Zone Station has been installed in the forecourt of Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort. This electric vehicle supercharger, which is usually located near highways, is one of the first in the world to be installed in the middle of a city. The Power Zone is powered directly by the hotel’s roof top solar panels and is 50 times faster than a conventional power outlet. EVs can be recharged in 20-30 minutes depending on the vehicle type. Drivers in Monaco can easily locate the Power Zone Station via on the Chargemap mobile app, further saving time and energy.

Along with supporting the Principality’s carbon reduction actions, Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort is also committed to reducing waste. The European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) has provided the Hotel & Resort with the opportunity to showcase several of its initiatives contributing to the circular economy.

During this week, the Hotel & Resort Chef Marcel Ravin participated in One day, One Chef, One Recipe organised by the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco. Chef Ravin created a 100% no-waste recipe for the eco-responsible coffee break with his “Clementine and Bread of the Next Day”.

In addition, Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort employees received awareness training on management and sorting of waste during the EWWR. This training was carried out by the Monegasque Sanitation Company and took place within the Hotel & Resort’s facilities. The EWWR was also a chance to give back to the community and Hotel & Resort staff assisted with the collection of toys for the benefit of the Soleil Royal Association.

Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort General Manager, Frederic Darnet is committed to the continuous improvement of his establishment’s sustainability performance, and encourages his team to always, “Listen, be available and responsive, give the desire to surpass oneself and the freedom to undertake, lead by example, innovate and surprise to aim ever higher!”

To further enhance Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort’s contribution to sustainable hospitality, GM Darnet has also supported additional certification of the Blue Bay Restaurant under Restaurant Engagé Certification. The Hotel & Resort’s starred-restaurant Blue Bay must now commit to: staff training regarding eco-responsibility; installation of sorting devices at workstations; reducing single-use bags and encouraging reuse; workshops to raise awareness of the environment, sustainable consumption and zero waste; among many other directives. The Blue Bay is among a number of starred-restaurant in Monaco to obtain Restaurant Engagé certification.

500 311 wttc2

Luxury Resort Boutique to Open at The Grand Galvez Hotel Lolo - TOP25HOTELS.com - TRAVELINDEXGalveston, Texas, United States, March 26, 2022 / TRAVELINDEX / Grand Galvez, has announced exciting plans and beautiful renderings for Lolo, the new luxury resort boutique, which will be located in Peacock Alley of the iconic renowned beachside resort hotel and spa on Galveston Island. The opening is scheduled for mid-summer 2022.

Lorenda Wyant, an interior designer who is collaborating with her husband, Mark Wyant on the renovations at Grand Galvez, has designed Lolo and is handling the merchandise selection. She has been involved in the retail business for many years, overseeing the boutiques at all of the hotels developed by her husband.

The carefully curated Lolo merchandise will reflect the luxurious renovations taking place at the hotel. The “new” Grand Galvez will offer a feeling of luxury and sophistication with an emphasis on stylish changes, focusing on an interpretation of modernism blended with the energy of the Gatsby era. The hotel’s refreshing renovations and creative design touches will intuitively meet the needs of every guest. (A detailed release on the renovations is included in the Dropbox.)

The Lolo design and merchandise color palette of the 500 square foot store and merchandise will be light, bright and colorful with whimsical touches of pinks, blues and vivid prints, all complementing the seaside location of the Grand Galvez.

“The inspiration for Lolo comes from many beach resorts and hotels we have visited around the world, including the original bathing suit and hat shop opened by Coco Chanel in the beachside resort of Deauville. I have always loved the history of fashion and seeing Coco’s first retail store was so memorable that when it came to naming the Grand Galvez beach resort boutique, Mark and I wanted to pay homage to her. With a ‘play’ on her name, we decided to use my childhood name ‘Lolo’ for the boutique’s branding,” said Lorenda Wyant.

Some of the chic clothing lines will include colorful caftans by Powder; swimwear, caftans and hats by Maaji; robes by Frette; baby clothes and swimwear by RuffleButts for babies and RuggedButts for boys; men’s swim trunks and shirts and Azul Siete; and sun protection lotions and oils by Hampton Sun. A signature lavender-based scent for Grand Galvez has been created by Dallas-based. Niven Morgan and his personal-care products and hand-poured candles will be available at Lolo. (Select merchandise images are in Dropbox.)

With its renowned history and exquisite setting, Grand Galvez is the site of hundreds of weddings each year. Mrs. Wyant has also selected beautiful bridal accessories from the “To Have and To Hold Collection” from Shiraleah, designed for bachelorette parties, bridal showers and gifts.

“We know many guests at Grand Galvez want to take with them a memory of their visit and we have created a selection of Grand Galvez-branded polo shirts and hats that will be for sale at Lolo,” said Lorenda Wyant.

Meliá Chiang Mai to Celebrate April Grand Opening - TRAVELINDEXChiang Mai, Thailand, March 25, 2022 / TRAVELINDEX / Meliá Chiang Mai, a 260-key urban hotel in the heart of Thailand’s mountainous Chiang Mai, with some of the city’s most spectacular views and its highest rooftop bar, will open on 10 April 2022.

Owned by Thailand’s leading integrated lifestyle real estate group, Asset World Corp Public Company Limited (AWC), and launched by Meliá Hotels International, Meliá Chiang Mai is the first five-star hotel to debut in Chiang Mai since the onset of the global pandemic. Situated on the lively Charoen Prathet Road, soaring over the River Ping and bustling Night Bazaar, the hotel is part of a roll-out of the Meliá brand in key destinations across Thailand that began with the launch of the nautical-themed Meliá Koh Samui, Thailand in January 2020.

With a design that pays homage to contemporary aesthetics and Chiang Mai’s charming history and culture, Meliá Chiang Mai is located six kilometers from the Chiang Mai International Airport, near an array of tourist attractions including the Old Town with its ancient moat and red-brick walls. The city’s oldest temple Wat Chiang Man, and the scenic Ang Kaew Reservoir are also within close proximity, with the elephant rescue center Elephant Nature Park, the stunning Mae Ya Waterfall, and UNESCO’s latest biosphere reserve Doi Chiang Dao in the mountainous surrounds.

Housed in a 22-floor tower fronted by an adjoining seven-floor podium building, Meliá Chiang Mai’s host of top-notch facilities includes two restaurants, two bars, and two lounges, one with an executive lounge on the 21st floor. Other facilities include Meliá’s signature YHI Spa with seven treatment rooms, a fully equipped fitness center, swimming pool, ballroom, four other meeting spaces, and a kids and teens club.

DINING

The hotel’s pièce de résistance is a 360-degree rooftop bar on the 22nd floor named Mai The Sky Bar. Comprising two bars connected by a glass bridge, the bar affords views of the River Ping to the city’s east and the famed Doi Suthep Temple on the mountaintop to the west.

Under the stewardship of multi-award-winning executive chef Suksant Chutinthratip, the hotel draws on Meliá’s Spanish origins and celebrates Spain’s famed gastronomy at its signature restaurant Mai Restaurant and Bar, on the 21st floor, and all-day dining restaurant Laan Na Kitchen.

Seating up to 38 diners, Mai Restaurant and Bar specializes in sumptuous contemporary Lanna (Northern Thai) style dishes with Mediterranean influences, as chefs prepare each dish à la minute from an open kitchen. Signature dishes include ‘Baked salmon trout fillet with nam prik oung pimentos and ‘Pappardella soi curry noodles with yellow curry chicken and homemade pickled cabbage‘.

Laan Na Kitchen serves authentic Mediterranean cuisine ranging from ‘Salmorejo con tomate triturado’ to ‘Fideuá de marisco’ in a vibrant marketplace setting. In addition to its indoor area seating 110 diners and patio area catering to 26 more people, Laan Na Kitchen also features four private dining rooms.

Mai The Sky Bar serves an array of authentic Spanish tapas and pinchos as well as a vast selection of beverages including imaginative cocktails crafted by skilled bartenders.

The open-air Tien Pool Bar, located above the lobby on the second floor, embraces the hotel’s outdoor swimming pool ambience and lures guests with a variety of tasty snacks, many with a Spanish flair such as ‘Bocadillo serranito’, and a variety of refreshing beverages.

Next to Laan Na Kitchen on the ground floor, Ruen Kaew Lounge serves a healthy, small bites menu under the ‘My Balance by Meliá’ program as well as a wellness-inspired afternoon tea, coffee, and more.

The hotel also offers a 24-hour in-room dining menu including five distinct healthy breakfast sets, as part of ‘My Balance by Meliá’, as well as a Spanish, Chinese, and local breakfast selection.

In partnership with ‘Ori9in, The Gourmet Farm’, Meliá Chiang Mai is embracing the ‘farm to table’ social movement by establishing its own sustainable farm in San Sai District to harvest organic fruit, vegetables and herbs for its restaurants. Under its ‘360° Cuisine’ program, the hotel works closely with local farmers to improve sustainability, encourage ethical production, and help the farming community, give guests a peace of mind about where their food comes from and make communities and the overall food system more resilient.

Of the property’s extensive room portfolio, 38 rooms and six suites belong to ‘The Level’, an upgraded level of service and benefits that provides exclusive access to The Level executive lounge. A sophisticated area for savouring an upgraded breakfast, complimentary all-day snacks, afternoon tea and evening cocktails, the lounge is also suited to casual business meetings. Private check-in and check-out at The Level Lounge, late check-out until 2pm (subject to availability), complimentary ironing of garments, and a 10% discount at the YHI Spa are among other The Level benefits.

GUEST ROOMS AND SUITES

The Level Lounge is available to guests staying in ‘The Level Room’, ‘The Level Premium Room’, ‘The Level Suite’, and ‘The Level Presidential Suite’.

SPA AND WELLNESS

Meliá Chiang Mai’s YHI Spa will feature seven private treatment rooms, designed in an underwater theme, and a traditional Thai herbal sauna to help cleanse, detox, and ease muscle tension.

The YHI Spa features four single treatment rooms, two double (or couples) treatment rooms, and one double room for Thai massage as well as a separate room for pedicures with two seats.

The spa’s professional therapists use ancient Asian healing wisdom combined with modern wellness techniques in a full range of body treatments from massages and scrubs to wraps and facials, leaving spa-goers revitalised and refreshed. Treatments are based on organic Thai wellness brand HARNN’s products, made with natural ingredients via methods handed down the generations of Thai artisans.

Overlooking the outdoor swimming pool on the second floor, the gym includes premium fitness equipment from the latest Matrix line by Johnson including treadmills, elliptical trainers, and exercise bikes, as well as a free weights station and a collection of weights machines.

MICE FACILITIES

An idyllic venue for events and weddings, the property’s extensive conference facilities include a 358-sqm ballroom named Yi Peng Grand Ballroom and two function rooms on the tower’s second floor above the lobby, and a 185-sqm multi-purpose function room on the podium building’s top floor, the seventh floor.

The ballroom’s 173-sqm pre-function area is connected to the outdoor swimming pool and Tien Pool Bar. As part of the ‘Power Meetings by Meliá’ program, the Power Lounge features a pool table, drinks area and funky seating suited to down-time between meetings.

Khom Multi-Function Room, on the seventh floor, opens to a 222-sqm outdoor terrace that also lends itself to events due to views of Chiang Mai, the river, and the mountains. The Khom Multi-Function Room adjoins a secret garden, that makes for a welcome surprise during coffee breaks.

“As one of the most popular places to visit on any travel itinerary to Thailand, we can’t help but be optimistic about the future of Chiang Mai’s tourism industry,” said Mrs Wallapa Traisorat, Meliá Chiang Mai’s owner and AWC’s CEO and President. “Trading on the mystic splendor of Northern Thailand, this flagship hotel is part of AWC’s efforts to build a better future for Thailand’s tourism landscape and economy amid the new normal.”

IATA Announces First Industry-Developed Passenger CO2 Calculation Methodology

300 158 wttc2

IATA Announces First Industry-Developed Passenger CO2 Calculation Methodology - AIRLINEHUB.com - TRAVELINDEXGeneva, Switzerland, March 25, 2022 / TRAVELINDEX / The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced the launch of the IATA Recommended Practice Per-Passenger CO2 Calculation Methodology. IATA’s Methodology, using verified airline operational data, provides the most accurate calculation methodology for the industry to quantify CO2 emissions per passenger for a specific flight.

As travelers, corporate travel managers, and travel agents are increasingly demanding precise flight CO2 emission information, an accurate and standardized calculation methodology is critical. This is particularly true in the corporate sector where such calculations are needed to underpin voluntary emissions reductions targets.

“Airlines have worked together through IATA to develop an accurate and transparent methodology using verified airline operational data. This provides the most accurate CO2 calculation for organizations and individuals to make informed choices about flying sustainably. This includes decisions on investing in voluntary carbon offsetting or sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) use,” said Willie Walsh, IATA’s Director General.

IATA’s Methodology takes into account the following factors:

– Guidance on fuel measurement, aligned with the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA)
– Clearly defined scope to calculate CO2 emissions in relation to airlines’ flying activities
– Guidance on non-CO2 related emissions and Radiative Forcing Index (RFI)
– Weight based calculation principle: allocation of CO2 emission by passenger and belly cargo
– Guidance on passenger weight, using actual and standard weight
– Emissions Factor for conversion of jet fuel consumption to CO2, fully aligned with CORSIA
– Cabin class weighting and multipliers to reflect different cabin configurations of airlines
– Guidance on SAF and carbon offsets as part of the CO2 calculation

“The plethora of carbon calculation methodologies with varying results creates confusion and dents consumer confidence. Aviation is committed to achieving net zero by 2050. By creating an accepted industry standard for calculating aviation’s carbon emissions, we are putting in place essential support to achieve this goal. The IATA Passenger CO2 Calculation Methodology is the most authoritative tool and it is ready for airlines, travel agents, and passengers to adopt,” added Walsh.

Fairfield by Marriott, part of Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio of 30 extraordinary brands, today announced the planned openings in 2022 of seven new Fairfield properties across four prefectures in Japan: Nara, Hokkaido, Hyogo, and Okayama. Together with these seven planned openings, the Fairfield by Marriott Michi-no-Eki project is expected to expand its portfolio to a total of 21 hotels across nine prefectures in the country by the end of 2022.

These anticipated openings continue the momentum of the Fairfield by Marriott Michi-no-Eki project in Japan, a collaboration with Sekisui House that began in 2018. The Fairfield by Marriott hotels are located near roadside rest stations called “Michi-no-Eki” in Japan, situated close to national parks and UNESCO World Heritage sites that unlock access to many destinations off the beaten path.

“We are very excited to continue to expand the Fairfield portfolio across Japan in collaboration with Sekisui House,” said Rajeev Menon, President, Asia Pacific (excluding China), Marriott International. “We have seen great success with Fairfield’s ‘Michi-no-Eki’ project, with 14 Fairfield by Marriott hotels already open across five prefectures in the country. We look forward to continuing to expand the brand’s footprint with new additions delivering Fairfield’s friendly service and warm hospitality in little-known destinations across Japan.”

Each Fairfield by Marriott hotel takes inspiration from its surroundings, delivering the beauty of simplicity for guests who appreciate a calming, reliable experience characterized by warm hospitality. The hotels’ public areas serve as flexible social spaces to share and connect with other travelers or simply to relax. Guests can expect a harmonious balance of functionality, comfort and enriching décor in natural materials and carefully selected amenities. Ranging in size from 21 to 25 square meters, each guestroom features comfortable beds, complimentary Wi-Fi, and a space-saving shower booth. The hotels also offer a Breakfast Box, allowing guests to start their mornings with a bento box filled with delicious local specialties as they prepare for the next stage of their journey.

Road trips are one of the best ways to explore Japan. The country’s network of expressways connect far-flung areas, making it highly convenient for visitors to explore the country. With the unique destinations at each of the Fairfield by Marriott Michi-no-Eki properties, travelers can enjoy “slow travel” and explore the country’s hidden gems by road.

In Hokkaido, travelers can embark on multi-day road trip journeys that take them from the lively energy of Sapporo to rural Naganuma, with its farms, rice fields, hill cafes and hot springs. A pleasant drive away is Eniwa, with its beautiful natural vistas of rural farmland and national parks. Then, travelers can head to Minamifurano for a few exhilarating days of outdoor activities.

Visitors exploring Nara and Hyogo prefectures have the option of beginning their journeys in Tenri, which was briefly the capital of Japan in the fifth century. A 45-minute drive away from Tenri is Osaka, where visitors can enjoy the infinite attractions of Japan’s third most populous city. Julia Simpson, WTTC President & CEO praised European Ministers for their resolve and solidarity with the people of Ukraine. WTTC was present to highlight the importance of the recovery of tourism for Europe creating employment for 24 million in the EU.

During this landmark event, Julia Simpson said: “WTTC and its members stand with the people of Ukraine. First and foremost, this is a humanitarian disaster as well as an economic one. We have all witnessed the shocking scenes on our TV screens and our hearts go out to the innocent victims.

“After almost two years without international travel, the loss of businesses and millions of jobs, we can finally see light at the end of the tunnel.

“If restrictions continue to be removed, the sector could employ almost 24 million people across the EU and contribute some €1.3 trillion to the region’s economy this year.

“As Presidency of the Council of the European Union, France is in a unique position to make a real difference. Europe’s recovery is at a critical juncture. We need to keep the economy open and restore unrestricted travel.”

Julia also highlighted the importance of a sustainable recovery and addressed the role EU ministers can play in reducing carbon emissions by 25 million tons of carbon a year.

“Aviation is making great strides in sustainability, but it needs urgent support. For 20 years airlines have been promised a Single European Sky allowing planes to fly on the shortest routes. Today planes zig zag across Europe burning extra fuel. The time for talking is over. If the EU is to meet its sustainability targets, it must act.”

Seychelles and Vanilla Islands at Heart of Co-Development - VANILLAISLANDS.com - TRAVELINDEXVictoria, Mahé, Seychelles, March 24, 2022 / TRAVELINDEX / Under the leadership of Wilfrid Bertile, the Vanilla Islands President and in line with the orientations of the Reunion Region, new actions aimed at co-development in the Indian Ocean will be launched in the coming months.

This news follows a meeting late last week in Seychelles between Pascal Viroleau, the Director of the Vanilla Islands Association and the Minister Sylvestre Radegonde, the Seychelles Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism and his PS Sherin Francis. This meeting, which took place on the day of the celebration of the Francophonie in the archipelago, made it possible to share the vision for the future and the implementation of the actions for the Indian Ocean Island’s Vanilla islands.

After months of inactivity, the reopening of the borders gradually allows a resumption of tourist activity. Engineering, inter-island combinations and cruising will serve as a basis for the renewed development of relations between the islands. The grouping of professionals and cooperation between the institutions of the six islands were also mentioned. It was agreed that to meet new needs, a connection of the small accommodation structures of the different islands, must allow a better sharing, for a better efficiency.

Based on these elements, a visit by a Seychellois delegation could be made in 2022 to Reunion In order to concretize the new regional orientations.
