Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi Welcomes La Tour d’Argent - TRAVELNEWSHUB.comHanoi, Vietnam, August 9, 2024 / TRAVELINDEX / Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi’s modern French fine dining restaurant Le Beaulieu will welcome the legendary 400-year-old Parisian dining establishment La Tour d’Argent for a series of highly exclusive meals in October.

La Tour d’Argent, a national landmark that has stood on the banks of the River Seine since 1582, is a pillar of French gastronomic heritage. Helmed by Executive Chef Yannick Franques, awarded the Meilleurs Ouvriers de France (the country’s most prestigious honor for craftsmanship), the Michelin-starred restaurant is renowned for its classic yet contemporary style of French cuisine, along with a remarkable wine cellar that houses more than 300,000 of the finest vintages.

The French epicurean icon will stage a unique culinary takeover at Le Beaulieu from Wednesday, Oct. 23 through Sunday, Oct. 27, 2024, offering guests and local diners an extraordinary 8-course dinner menu and 5-course lunch menu that showcase La Tour d’Argent’s celebrated cuisine and Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi’s acclaimed spirit of hospitality.

The exclusive 8-course dinner is priced at VND 5,500,000++ per person (with an optional VND 2,500,000++ for add-on wine pairing). The 5-course lunch is priced at VND 2,800,000++ per person (with an optional VND 1,200,000++ for add-on wine pairing).

From the cutting of duck on the fly to the flambéing of Mademoiselle crepes, this immersive dining experience will transport French savoir-faire and the art of gastronomy from the center of Paris to the heart of Vietnam’s vibrant capital city. One highlight will be “Caneton Frédéric Delair,” a signature dish that pays tribute to Charlie Chaplin, who famously spent his honeymoon at the Metropole Hanoi in 1936. The hotel today has a suite that bears his name.

“With our rich history and that of Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi, it’s easy to bring this unique experience to life, nourished by this encounter and supported by the expertise of our teams. The beauty and refinement of the setting particularly appealed to us, and echoed that of our Parisian home. It’s a promise for customers of a unique and grandiose experience,” said André Terrail, owner of La Tour d’Argent.

George Koumendakos, the General Manager of Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi, added: “We are delighted to welcome La Tour d’Argent, a legend of French gastronomy, to our hotel for this singular dining experience, as we continue to elevate Metropole Hanoi’s fine dining to new heights. It is also a truly special way for Sofitel to mark our 60-year Diamond Jubilee this year.”

Le Beaulieu, operating in its current space since 1901, is believed to be the oldest continually operating restaurant in Vietnam. It is renowned for serving modern French cuisine with nods to classical French flavors and an emphasis on seasonality and superior ingredients. While there are some traditional French touches, the presentation is stylish, with well-balanced portions and fresh produce from France, Vietnam and elsewhere. Le Beaulieu was recently listed in the prestigious MICHELIN Guide 2024.

The restaurant’s Chef de Cuisine Charles Degrendele was born and raised in Marseille, France, and has been on a remarkable culinary odyssey from the serene countryside of Provence to Michelin-starred kitchens and the vibrant streets of Tokyo. He even trained at La Tour d’Argent.

Le Beaulieu boasts one of the most extensive wine collections in Hanoi, featuring more than 600 references and 1,600 bottles, including over 100 Grand Cru Classés and wines from leading chateaux, vintners and wineries from France and around the world.

The restaurant and its refined al fresco extension La Terrasse underwent an extensive seven-month refurbishment in 2021-22 that resulted in an elegant and sophisticated new interior that ties together the hotel’s storied past with a contemporary new look that melds the opulent, the classical and the modern in a single scheme.

In May, Le Beaulieu launched a new quarterly dining series, “Rendez-vous,” that brings together Metropole’s award-winning culinary team with some of the best chefs from around the world. The series kicked off with two exclusive dinners with French Chef Arnaud Sauthier, who holds 1 Michelin star for his Maison Dunand in Bangkok.

Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi has held a Five-Star rating – the top level of recognition – from Forbes Travel Guide for five consecutive years and TOP25 Restaurants news.

The hotel’s historic Heritage Wing, with 103 guest rooms and suites, reopened to guests in December 2023 after being meticulously restored and renovated under a 21-month construction project. The comprehensive reconstruction work was centered on the original wing of the hotel, which was established in 1901 and has played host over the decades to numerous heads of state and royalty, along with world-famous actors, writers, musicians and others.

Bushtops Raises Bar for Wild Luxury

1080 632 wttc2

Bushtops Raises Bar for Wild Luxury - TRAVELNEWSHUB.comMara Bushtops in Kenya has shared the first images of their two fabulous family suites.  Their pre-existing family tent, the Leopard Suite, has been given a complete interior overhaul, whilst the Rhino Suite is a brand-new addition to meet the increasing demand.

Both family-friendly tents can accommodate up to six people (or simply provide a couple with acres of extra room), with a pair of private tents with their own ensuite bathrooms, linked by a chic interior lounge, complete with a well-stocked mini bar and coffee machine. The tents are identical in design and overlook  a busy wildlife corridor which leads from the surrounding hills down to the popular salt lick, ensuring fabulous game viewing. The family tents are also adjacent to the solar heated pool and facilities of the Amani Spa for easy access.  Designed by Andrin Schweizer, the genius behind so much of the Bushtops look and feel, the quality is exceptional, featuring a private hot tub on the generous deck, a stone dining table, a sunken lounge and private fireplace in front of the tent.

Rooms Revitalised and Reimagined at Serengeti Bushtops

Master of design Andrin Schweizer has just completely remodelled the interiors at Serengeti Bushtops in Tanzania, creating stylish, 5-star suites under canvas that embody the “wild luxury” experience that is so synonymous with Bushtops.

The redesigned suites now feature elegant new furniture and matching softs, with ceiling fans and subtle-lighting lanterns and generously stocked mini bars. Hand-cut slate from a local quarry has contributed dramatically to the revamped, upgraded bathrooms.

The camp also now offers four buggies, allowing guests to be shuttled with ease and speed between their suites and public areas, like mini safaris. Of course, nothing matches a proper game drive expedition in our open-sided Toyota 4x4s, but these buggies are always a big hit with guests.

A Beauty of a Beest

Speaking of game drives, the countdown has officially begun to launching our fabulous new beauty of a Beest, which will offer a one-of-a-kind safari experience in the Serengeti!   Watch this space… or contact claire@unlingo.co.uk for more information.

Pinto Lunch Sets All The Rage at The Kites

900 675 wttc2

A fun and colourful dining experience designed to “pack a punch on the senses”, INNSiDE By Meliá Bangkok Sukhumvit’s 31st floor all-day dining restaurant The Kites Eatery has launched “Pinto Lunch Set”.

Served in multi-coloured, round traditional Thai lunch boxes, named “pinto”, the four-course set lunch celebrates authentic Thai home-cooking with a starter, main course, side dish and dessert.

There are three different four-course sets to choose from, dubbed “Pinto Bang Rak”, “Pinto Banglamphu” and “Pinto Sao Chingcha”. All begin with “Nam Phrik”, a seasonal Thai dip with local vegetables.

Pinto Bang Rak features starter “Moo Tod Kamin” deep-fried pork belly with fish sauce and herbs, side dish “Tod Mun Pla Yang” charcoal grilled Thai fish cake, and main course “Gang Phed Ped” sous vide duck in red curry with seasonal fruit and basil.

Pinto Banglamphu’s starter, side dish and main are “Gai Yang Takrai” grilled chicken marinated with lemongrass, “Kai Jiew” authentic Thai omelette, and “Massaman Nuea” slow-cooked beef with aromatic herbs, respectively.

Pinto Sao Chingcha comprises starter “Laab Moo Tod” fried minced pork balls marinated with Thai herbs and spices, side dish “Pla Phad Phrik Thai Dam” stir-fried fish with black pepper, and main dish “Kai Palo Khun Mae”, executive chef Katisak Pinkaew’s mother’s recipe, made of egg and chicken cooked in sweet brown soup.

All three Pinto Lunch Sets’ main courses are served with “Khao Hom Mali” steamed jasmine rice. The dining experience is rounded off with “Khong Wan” daily desserts such as local coconut ice-cream, rice noodles with coconut cream, grass jelly with ice and brown sugar, or water chestnuts in coconut milk.

“Served against a backdrop of soaring windows giving way to spectacular views of Bangkok, our Pinto Lunch Sets pack a punch on the senses,” said the hotel’s general manager Aarron Nelson. “As you open the pinto boxes with various dishes that make for a riot of colour, the aromas are disarming and the tastes and textures of our fresh, local ingredients in our home-cooked, tried and true recipes can’t be beat.”

“You’re not only enjoying a meal but also a cultural journey. Pintos are traditionally used to transport home-cooked meals to work or school, maintaining the freshness and flavors of the food. The meticulous preparation and presentation of each dish reflect the Thai values of harmony and balance,” he added.

Offered daily from 12-3pm, a Pinto Lunch Set is priced at THB 300 net.

The Kites Eatery is adorned with abstract artwork of kites – a reference to the popular pastime of kite flying in state park Sanum Luang. Tapping local roots with fresh, colourful Thai cuisine, the restaurant’s chefs serve up central, northern, north-eastern and southern Thai cuisine a la minute using quality ingredients sourced from local farms. Open from 6.30am-11pm, The Kites Eatery offers a healthy buffet breakfast and a la carte menu from noon, as well as customised lunches and banquets for meetings and events.
