Marriott Introduces the Luxury Collection to Cambodia and Laos - TRAVELINDEX

Marriott Introduces the Luxury Collection to Cambodia and Laos - TRAVELINDEXBangkok, Thailand, March 17, 2026 / TRAVELINDEX / Marriott International, Inc. today announced the signing of a landmark agreement with KS Hotels to introduce The Luxury Collection to Cambodia and Laos through the conversion of two storied boutique hotels: La Résidence Angkor in Siem Reap and La Résidence Phou Vao in Luang Prabang. The agreement is set to mark Marriott’s entry in Laos and the debut of The Luxury Collection in both countries.

Long regarded as icons within their respective destinations, both properties are set to undergo thoughtful enhancements to align with The Luxury Collection’s global standards while preserving their architectural character, cultural authenticity, and longstanding heritage. The properties’ anticipated entries into the brand’s curated portfolio signal a new chapter, bringing internationally recognized luxury to properties deeply rooted in place.

“This signing marks a defining milestone for Marriott International, as it represents the company’s debut hotel in Laos and the entry of The Luxury Collection in two inspiring, culturally-rich destinations,” said Rajeev Menon, President, Asia Pacific excluding China, Marriott International. “Perfect for discerning global explorers, these properties are set to blend architectural grace and locally inspired design. As part of our global portfolio, these properties will continue to celebrate their cultural identity while offering guests the elevated service and immersive experiences that define The Luxury Collection.”

La Résidence Phou Vao, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Luang Prabang

Expected to debut in October 2026, La Résidence Phou Vao will join The Luxury Collection as one of Luang Prabang’s most distinctive hilltop retreats. Set within expansive tropical gardens overlooking the UNESCO-protected old town, golden temples, and the Mekong River, the property has long been regarded as a sanctuary of tranquility in the former royal capital of Laos.

Following the transition, it is expected to feature 41 spacious rooms and suites adorned with traditional Lao craftsmanship, refined materials, and private balconies or patios framing views of the surrounding hills. Scheduled enhancements are slated to further elevate guests’ experience while safeguarding the property’s architectural identity.

Culinary plans include the anticipated opening of ‘La Brasserie de la Résidence’, bringing together classic French bistro cuisine and an exploratory Lao menu, complemented by open kitchens and a poolside terrace that frames views towards the golden temple of Mount Phousi. Other planned hotel facilities include an outdoor pool, fitness center, an outdoor yoga deck, and Spa, a newly introduced wellness sanctuary. Two meeting rooms and a curated retail boutique are also slated to complete the refreshed offering.

Nestled at the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers, Luang Prabang remains one of Southeast Asia’s most culturally preserved cities. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is defined by French colonial architecture, saffron-robed monks, sacred monasteries, and enduring spiritual traditions. The destination is served by Luang Prabang International Airport (approximately 4.9 km from the hotel) and the Luang Prabang Railway Station (approximately 11.6 km away), offering high-speed regional connections.

La Résidence Angkor, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Siem Reap

Scheduled to debut within The Luxury Collection in October 2027, La Résidence Angkor is set to further strengthen Marriott’s presence in Cambodia. A low-rise property, located along the Siem Reap River at the gateway to Angkor, this property has long been a distinguished address for travelers seeking proximity to the Angkor Archaeological Park.

The property is slated to offer 59 thoughtfully appointed rooms, including 14 spacious suites ranging from 40 to 126 square meters, each enriched with refined classical Cambodian design elements, blending heritage with contemporary comfort. Plans also include featuring three exclusive residences fitted with private outdoor pools, providing an elevated level of privacy and luxury.

Dining at La Résidence Angkor anticipates spanning a rich spectrum of epicurean experiences, from the alfresco elegance of La Brasserie de La Résidence to Khmer Funk, a street-accessed eatery buzzing with Mekong Regional flavors, alongside a café, an Explorer’s-themed cocktail lounge, and a pool bar. Other planned guest facilities include an outdoor pool, fitness center, and Spa, a new addition to the property featuring six treatment rooms, hydrothermal facilities, and a relaxation lounge. Additional facilities include one function room, and a boutique offering locally crafted artisanal products.

Angkor Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the world’s most extraordinary sacred landscapes, remains at the heart of Siem Reap’s cultural magnetism. Beyond the temples, the town offers vibrant markets, contemporary arts initiatives, and access to Tonlé Sap Lake’s floating communities. Siem Reap–Angkor International Airport is located approximately 45 km from the property.

Strengthening The Luxury Collection Presence in Southeast Asia

Upon completion of the rebranding, La Résidence Phou Vao, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Luang Prabang, is expected to mark Marriott’s entry into Laos, and La Résidence Angkor, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Siem Reap, will join the company’s portfolio of hotels in Cambodia which currently includes properties in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh. Together, these additions will expand The Luxury Collection’s footprint in Southeast Asia, complementing the brand’s existing portfolio in Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia.

“Operating within the Marriott International franchise framework enables a strong strategic collaboration bringing together the global reach, distribution power, and brand equity of Marriott with HMD Asia’s deep local market expertise and hands-on approach to luxury management. The result is a world-class brand experience that never loses sight of what our owners value most: individuality, service excellence, and sustained asset performance.” Anthony Lark, Executive Director, HMD Asia

As members of The Luxury Collection, and part of Marriott Bonvoy’s global portfolio of over 30 extraordinary hotel brands, both hotels will offer curated Destination Discovery experiences designed to connect guests meaningfully with the cultural, artistic, and historical heritage of Laos and Cambodia, hallmarks of the brand’s commitment to authentic, place-driven luxury.

Set on the southern bank of the Huong River, adjacent to the iconic Truong Tien Bridge, the hotel, which opens to guests on March 14, boasts a prime riverside location within the UNESCO‑recognized heritage landscape of Vietnam’s former imperial capital.

Blending cultural heritage with contemporary hospitality, Grand Royal Riverside Hue delivers an immersive guest experience rooted in history, place and modern comfort. Hue is internationally recognized for its historic monuments, scenic river landscapes and enduring cultural significance.

Located at No. 02 Hung Vuong Street, the new hotel features two towers comprised of 161 guestrooms. Inspired by the Huong River, a defining symbol of Hue’s culture and history, the property is crafted around the concept “A Tale of Two Times,” blending the elegance of the past with the vibrancy of the present. The river serves as a picturesque backdrop and the unifying narrative thread guiding the hotel’s design and guest journey.

Architecturally inspired by Indochine elegance, the hotel reflects a period of cultural exchange that shaped Hue’s distinctive urban identity. Interiors are layered with natural wood and locally inspired materials, softened by jade-toned hues that evoke calm and balance. The result is a serene and elegant retreat that pays homage to the former imperial capital, where refined design details seamlessly bridge heritage character and contemporary comfort.

The hotel’s Jade & Ginger Restaurant serves a daily breakfast buffet and all-day dining, featuring authentic Vietnamese flavors such as bun bo Hue, pho and banh mi, alongside signature Hue specialties and selected European dishes and other cuisines.

Massilia Bangkok Best Pizzeria in Thailand for 5th Time

Massilia Bangkok Best Pizzeria in Thailand for 5th Time - TRAVELINDEX

Massilia Bangkok Best Pizzeria in Thailand for 5th Time - TRAVELINDEXBangkok, Thailand, March 11, 2026 / TRAVELINDEX / Massilia Bangkok is honored to announce that it has been named Best Pizzeria in Thailand 2026 by the prestigious 50 Top Pizza Asia Pacific Awards — marking the restaurant’s fifth national title and fourth consecutive win since 2021.

Massilia also earned recognition as the 6th Best Pizzeria in Asia 2026, solidifying its position as Thailand’s premier destination for authentic Neapolitan pizza and one of the top pizzerias across the entire Asia-Pacific region.

Leading Thailand’s Pizza Community with Pride

This recognition is incredibly meaningful to us,” Luca Appino, owner, shared. “As Thailand’s top pizzeria for five years, we feel a responsibility not just to our guests, but to the entire pizza community in Thailand.”

While Massilia is proud to lead as the nation’s number one, the team emphasizes that this success reflects the strength of Thailand’s entire pizza scene — talented pizzaiolos perfecting their craft, passionate restaurant owners pushing standards higher, and guests who truly appreciate quality and authenticity.

We’re honored to represent Thailand on the international stage. But we’re also part of a larger movement — chefs and restaurateurs across the country who are dedicated to excellence. When Thai pizzerias gain global recognition, it elevates everyone in our industry.” Chef Michele Fernando shared.

As the most awarded pizzeria in Thailand, Massilia takes this role seriously, continuing to set the benchmark while celebrating the growth of the community around them.

Four Consecutive Years: A Commitment to Consistency

Winning four years in a row (2023–2026) reflects something deeper than individual achievements — it’s about maintaining the highest standards year after year, evolving thoughtfully, and never taking success for granted.

Every year brings new challenges: ingredient availability, training new team members, staying innovative while respecting tradition. As Thailand’s leading pizzeria, Massilia understands that consistency isn’t just important — it’s essential.

Being number one means we can’t have an off day. Every pizza, every service, every guest interaction has to reflect the standard that earned us this position. We don’t take that lightly.

Why These Awards Matter

The 50 Top Pizza guide is the world’s most authoritative ranking of pizzerias, evaluating restaurants on dough quality, ingredient integrity, service, and overall dining experience.

Thailand’s growing presence in these rankings reflects what the local dining community has always known: Bangkok is a world-class food destination with restaurateurs and chefs who are deeply committed to their craft.

As Thailand’s most recognized pizzeria internationally, Massilia’s journey from a small pizza truck to five-time national champion and Top 6 in Asia demonstrates what dedication, quality, and genuine hospitality can achieve.

Building on Tradition, Looking Forward

At its core, Massilia’s approach has remained unchanged since the beginning:

  • 72-hour cold fermentation for optimal dough structure
  • Premium Italian ingredients: San Marzano tomatoes, fior di latte mozzarella, DOP olive oil
  • Respect for Neapolitan techniques passed down through generations
  • Creativity and playfulness in everything we create — tradition with a spark
  • Genuine hospitality that makes every guest feel welcome

These principles have guided Massilia to five national titles and a place among Asia’s elite pizzerias, and they’ll continue to guide the restaurant forward.

We’re not chasing awards. We’re chasing the perfect pizza — with a little creativity and fun along the way. The recognition is a beautiful byproduct of that pursuit.

About Massilia Bangkok

Massilia is Thailand’s #1 pizzeria and Bangkok’s premier destination for authentic Neapolitan pizza. Since its founding, Massilia has been recognized internationally for its dedication to quality, craft, creativity, and hospitality. Massilia operates two locations in Bangkok and offers catering, consulting, and franchising services.

Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor Appoints Memo Hernandez as New Executive Chef

900 600 wttc2

Siem Reap, Cambodia, March 11, 2026 / TRAVELINDEX / Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor has appointed Memo Hernandez as its new Executive Chef overseeing the 94-year-old luxury hotel’s storied culinary programme, including a one-of-a-kind temple dinner at the ancient archeological park of Angkor.

Chef Memo, who was born in Costa Rica, brings to Raffles more than two decades of culinary experience and luxury hospitality from around the world, including most recently in the Bahamas, and before that in Kosovo, Vietnam, Tanzania, Maldives, Fiji, Dubai and elsewhere.

At Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor, Chef Memo will lead the culinary teams at Cafe d’Angkor, the signature all-day brasserie serving Asian and international dishes; 1932, the hotel’s acclaimed Khmer fine-dining restaurant; The Conservatory, the elegant home to Raffles’ famed Afternoon Tea; and the hotel’s renowned banquet service.

“I am thrilled to be joining Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor, one of Asia’s most iconic luxury hotels, whose extraordinary range of culinary offerings includes the truly exclusive Bespoke Temple Dinner. I am both honoured and inspired to present my culinary creations in the sacred temples of Angkor Wat,” Chef Memo said.

The Bespoke Temple Dinner is part of Raffles’ ‘Curated Journeys’ programme introduced in 2024. The once-in-a-lifetime dining experience is uniquely set within the temple complex, with blazing torches that cast flickering shadows around the ancient relics of the Khmer Empire.

The specially designed meal is inspired by the hotel’s original 1936 menu first served in this historic setting, and the evening’s entertainment includes a performance of traditional Cambodian Apsara dance against a backdrop of the mystical temples.

“I’m also very excited to partner with local suppliers as we tap into the incredible fresh produce and resources of Cambodia,” he added.

Chef Memo is a specialist in Nikkei cuisine, a vibrant, century-old culinary fusion originating from Japanese immigrants in Peru, along with other third culture cuisines. These cuisines aren’t about mixing two cultures, but rather the unique, authentic identity that exists between them. It is the food of people raised in one culture while living in another, creating a flavour profile that belongs to neither, and both.

My cuisine isn’t a ‘fusion’ of recipes. It’s a culinary autobiography. It’s the authentic food of a global citizen who has lived across borders and refused to leave any of those flavours behind,” Chef Memo said.

Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor General Manager Joseph Colina said, “We are delighted to welcome Chef Memo to Raffles, where he will play a critical role in continuing to elevate our culinary offerings and delivering unforgettable, authentic experiences that honour our rich heritage while embracing innovative global influences for our discerning guests.”

L’Arôme by the Sea Introduces a New Menu - TRAVELINDEX

L’Arôme by the Sea Introduces a New Menu - TRAVELINDEXPhuket, Thailand, March 10, 2026 / TRAVELINDEX / L’Arôme by the Sea introduces a new dégustation menu that reaffirms its commitment to contemporary French coastal gastronomy, guided by Executive Chef Maksym Chukanov and inspired by the Andaman Sea.

The menu is conceived around seafood in its entirety, with a deliberate emphasis on whole-fish utilization. Each product is treated with respect from primary cuts to secondary elements, through a range of precise techniques including gentle curing, controlled roasting, careful poaching, and reduction-based sauces.

The progression opens with Carabinero prawn with tomato and olive oil, Shima Aji paired with radish and finger lime, and Sakura Ebi grissini with fresh wasabi, before moving into purer marine expressions such as Gillardeau oyster with dill beurre blanc and Hotate scallop with green apple and horseradish. Larger fish are handled with restraint and accuracy, notably wild turbot prepared on the bone and paired with vin jaune, while Brittany blue lobster is served with a calibrated laksa designed to enhance, rather than dominate, the natural sweetness of the shellfish.

Throughout the menu, seasoning remains measured, acidity carefully controlled, and garnishes purposeful, allowing product quality and clarity of execution to define the experience.

Alongside carefully selected imported seafood, the menu incorporates seasonal Thai produce, reflecting a dialogue between classical French technique and its local environment. Current highlights include Chiang Mai strawberries at peak season, served with a Hokkaido milk parfait, bringing freshness, balance, and natural sweetness to the progression while remaining faithful to the menu’s product-driven philosophy.

Chef Maksym Chukanov brings nearly two decades of experience from Michelin-starred kitchens across Europe and Asia. His background includes Noma 2.0 in Copenhagen, Restaurant Ikarus at Hangar-7 in Salzburg, and Restaurant Cure in Singapore, where he earned one Michelin star in 2021 and was featured in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants Discovery.

His cuisine is defined by restraint, precision, and respect for ingredients, with a strong focus on seafood, whole-fish utilization, and clarity of flavour. At L’Arôme by the Sea, he translates classical French technique into a contemporary coastal expression shaped by Phuket’s maritime environment.
