This alarming trend is fuelled by both new and protracted conflicts. Over the past year, UNHCR issued 43 emergency declarations to scale up support in 29 countries — the highest number in decades. UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency is actively responding to these emergencies, delivering aid and protection on the ground in many countries around the world.  More than ever, solidarity across all sectors is important to raise awareness, provide humanitarian assistance, and work toward lasting solutions for those forced to flee.

In response to the global situations and to ensure preparedness for future emergencies, UNHCR Thailand has established the “Empathy Emergency Fund” since 2022.
This campaign invites the Thai community to extend their support, helping to provide essential aid during and after crises for those in desperate need.

“With the number of people fleeing persecutions on the rise and the devastating effects of climate change putting refugees at risk of hunger and malnutrition, the situation is deeply  distressing. There is an urgent need to help refugees across the world,” said Nivene Albert, UNHCR Deputy Representative in Thailand. “Your support to the Emergency Fund will ensure that UNHCR can respond when an emergency strikes and provide urgent life-saving support to those who have been forced to leave their homes.

In honour of International Chefs Day on 20th October, an annual event that celebrates the skill and dedication of chefs around the world, two of Thailand’s most esteemed culinary figures are joining forces to support UNHCR’s mission. Chef Nooror Somany Steppe, the master chef and owner of Blue Elephant restaurant, a Royal Thai Cuisine, together with Chef Supinya Junsuta known as Chef Jay Fai, Michelin Starred Chef, join hands to organise “International Chefs Day: The Living Legend Chefs Charity Brunch for UNHCR”. This special event will help raise funds for UNHCR’s work supporting refugees facing humanitarian crises around the world.

“Refugees and other forcibly displaced people are at an increased risk of undernutrition and malnutrition. Every support is urgently needed to help ease the suffering,” said Chef Nooror Somany Steppe. “This charity brunch not only aims to make a significant impact on the lives of refugees but also to present the living legend chefs and their culinary masterpieces as a soft power to help the global crisis.”

At this exclusive charity brunch, Master Chef Nooror will showcase her world-renowned Bespoke Massaman Lamb and the legendary Foie Gras with Tamarind Sauce in addition to a lavish spread of other gourmet delights. Meanwhile, Jay Fai will present her famous Crab Omelette, which will be auctioned as a special highlight of the event. Weddings range from an intimate ceremony for two on the beachfront or vast lawn to a larger formal dining arrangement for up to 500 family and friends. Sweeteners for the bride and groom include a live guitarist and violinist during the ceremony, all sorts of exquisite flower arrangements, and a three-tier wedding cake.

“Our resort’s meticulous wedding planner sees to every last detail for the occasion of a lifetime, saving the bride and groom the often immense stress of orchestrating a wedding themselves,” said The Anam Group’s commercial director Martin Koerner.

“There is also scope for wedding ceremonies and receptions to be staged at the adjacent beachfront Axi Plaza, a multifunctional convention centre with a design inspired by Vietnam’s ubiquitous coracle boat. With a design inspired by Vietnam’s Indochine era, the 180-square-metre ‘Honeymoon Villas’ are both set on 400 square metres of lush hillside land located adjacent to the grounds of the resort’s tranquil 10-treatment room spa. The picture-perfect one-bedroom villas each feature a separate living room, jacuzzi, steam and sauna room and private terrace with sun loungers overlooking a glassy-surfaced 40-square-metre private pool. Thailand Hosts Successful F1 in Schools National Finals 2024 - TRAVELINDEXBangkok, Thailand, October 8, 2024 / TRAVELINDEX / The F1 in Schools Thailand first National Finals 2024 kicked off in spectacular fashion, making a significant milestone in the country’s educational and motorsport landscape at True Digital Park recently.  Mr. Phoothorn Chanthahong Poonyacharatthamrong, Ph.D, (4th from left), Secretary-General of the Basic Education Commission’s Assistant, Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC), Ministry of Education, presided at the opening ceremony.  Host of the event was Dr. John Chakraphad Pitakthararuay (5th from left), CEO & President of 1 Action Education Co., Ltd. and Kaew Chakraphad Foundation and the Official In-Country Delivery Partner of F1 in Schools.  The two-day National Finals Competition was participated by over 30 teams of young students (age 7–18) from schools across Thailand as well as 4 teams from Hong Kong and Macau who showcased their talents in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).

Mr. Phoonthorn Chanthahong Poonyacharartthamron said during his keynote speech at the opening ceremony, “I am pleased to share with you that the objective laid behind the F1 in Schools’ programme goes well with the OBEC’s drive to advance the promotion of basic education from primary to secondary schools, as well as driving home the active learning concept in a holistic way that the Ministry of Education is actively pursuing.”

“I trust the F1 in Schools Thailand’s learning programme and the National Finals will serve as a catalyst to expand STEM education in Thailand and inspire more youngsters to seriously engage in subjects which are really crucial for the present and the future,” he added.

Said Dr. John Chakraphad Pitakthararuay. “Today is not just a celebration of competition, but a showcase of engineering excellence, teamwork, and ingenuity, all of which are at the heart of this incredible event.  I am proud to announce that this year’s event is an eco-friendly celebration of innovation.  All the materials used in this competition, including the racing cars and the trophies, are 3D printed using biodegradable PLA materials.  This shift not only highlights the technological advancement at our disposal but also underscores the importance of sustainability in modern engineering and manufacturing.”

The highlight of the opening ceremony was a spectacular dance performance by students from Amnuay Silpa School.  This same school had previously represented Thailand at the F1 in Schools World Finals.

Amongst the 45 trophies presented, ‘Starpoint Racing’ team from Bangkok Patana School won the ‘Overall Champion’ (Development Level) award; and ‘Sugarraze’ team comprising two of the youngest members won ‘Overall Champion’ (Entry Level) award amongst others.

Also joining on the second day to present awards to several winning teams was Mr. Pasin Lathouras, famous Thai car racer who clinched the Ferrari Challenge Asia Pacific Championship in 2013 and SPA 24hrs Champion in 2015 who is also Deputy CEO of the world-renowned family-owned NaRaYa.

Oxford University was host of ‘The International Mind Health Academy of London’ in the UK Conference.

Alain St.Ange, the Seychellois Tourism Consultant was one of the invited personalities who took to the podium to address those gathered at Oxford University.

Alain St.Ange is the tourism consultant who works alongside many a Tourism Board and Ministry of Tourism on the African Continent and in the ASEAN Block Countries, is a former Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine of the Seychelles who is today a sought after speaker on tourism and tourism marketing, aviation and the new trend simply referred to as sustainable tourism development. He was also his country’s candidate for the post of Secretary General of the UNWTO in 2017 and one of the three Candidates vying for the post of President of Seychelles in the island’s 2020 Presidentail Elections.

In his address at Oxford University St.Ange spoke about the Seychelles position as ‘friend of all and enemy of none’, a position he says the mid-ocean islands of the Seychelles embraced since its Independence from Great Britain in 1976. “It is a stand that has kept Seychelles out of conflicts and a stand that opened doors for Seychellois travelling in the four corners of the world to be welcomed as friends” said Alain St.Ange.

On the 3rd of October, the Seychellois tourism consultant was again on the speaker’s list at Oxford University at an event entitled the “Mental Health Global Summit” that focused mostly on Mental Health that aimed at creating a platform for all those involved to collaborate toward a solution to the global proportions of Mental Health. “This event at Oxford University was the opportunity for me to touch on stability and confidence for each and everyone through peace, through the ability for progress and through each and everyone’s ambition for prosperity” said St.Ange who took to the podium ahead of experts in the field and speakers who related their personal challenging experiences that kept those in the room in awe.

The Seychelles tourism expert showed in his address that tourism as an industry is the best way forward for embracing peace and for providing employment for so many and in so doing ensuring a better state of mind for everyone.

At the closing of the event at Oxford University, Alain St.Ange was one of the delegates to be recognised by the International Mind Health Academy of London in the UK and appointed “International Mind Health Ambassador”.
