Based in New York City, the global awards are in their 16th year and assess more than 5,000 goods and services in 400 categories from more than 100 countries. According to the awards’ organising committee: “The objective of these awards is to recognise excellence across the whole range of industry sectors and maintain the highest standards in the industry worldwide”.

After undergoing a selection process by the award’s organizing committee based on selection criteria including reputation, craftsmanship, credibility, uniqueness, brand awareness, sustainability, luxury experience, personalization, and excellence, INNSiDE by Meliá Bangkok Sukhumvit has been deemed the winner of the ‘Best Luxury Bleisure Hotel in Bangkok’ category. The organising committee applauded the hotel, that debuted in July 2023, for being “one of the best in its sector” and its “impeccable reputation and professional performance”.

INNSiDE by Meliá Bangkok Sukhumvit’s general manager Aarron Nelson said he and his team were thrilled the urban lifestyle hotel has been recognised on the world stage for its eclectic mix of remarkable business and leisure facilities and services so soon after its July 2023 debut.

“With integrated co-working spaces, playful meeting rooms and multifunctional areas designed to encourage creativity and productivity, a sky-high transparent infinity pool, incredible rooftop tapas bar LUZ and more, we’re not your typical bleisure hotel,” said Nelson. “Our hotel has a lot of storytelling behind it; each floor tells a story about a certain famous Bangkok landmark. Our compelling design, our vibrant team, and all the exciting possibilities we offer seamlessly combining business and leisure are connecting with a lot of people.”

Situated at 1472 Sukhumvit Road, the new On Nut hotel is a 30-minute ride from Suvarnabhumi Airport and close to an array of services and attractions suited to business and leisure travellers including the On Nut BTS Skytrain station and Bangkok’s largest convention centre, BITEC.

The hotel’s vast 32nd floor co-working space with soaring floor-to-ceiling windows offers a front seat to Bangkok’s sweeping skyline. Five meeting rooms and multifunctional areas, such as the Big Ideas Space, underpin the INNSiDE brand and lend themselves to being mixed and matched for all sorts of bespoke social and corporate events.

Together with the hotel’s jewel in the crown, an awe-inspiring infinity pool, The Giant Swing Pool Bar commands the 34th floor. Nestled between bar and pool, a compelling contemporary interpretation of Bangkok’s Brahman structure The Giant Swing is a dramatic photo backdrop. By night, the pool bar becomes an upper-floor extension of the hotel’s 33rd floor LUZ Bangkok Tapas Bar. Offering authentic Spanish tapas, wines, beer on tap, cocktails and signature sangrias, the tapas bar invites diners to embark on a culinary pilgrimage across Spain. A spectacle unlike any other in Bangkok, tapas bar guests peer into the bottom of the infinity pool.

New Wafaifo Resort Hoi An in Vietnam Now Open for Booking

1080 758 wttc2

The Wafaifo Resort, a 10-minute walk from Hoi An ancient town in central Vietnam, will open its doors on 1 September

HOI AN, VIETNAM – The Wafaifo Hoi An Resort in the ancient heritage capital of Hoi An in central Vietnam will open its doors to guests on 1 September this year.

Bookings are now available on Wafaifo.com for the phase 1 opening of the privately and locally-owned boutique property which will ultimately offer 134-rooms and suites and a range of dining and lifestyle outlets, a 10-minute walk from Hoi An’s UNESCO-listed heritage attractions.

The resort will deliver a modern interpretation of Hoi An hospitality, dining, wellness and community lifestyles in a lively tourist city where analysts say visitor numbers could repeat 2019 record breaking levels by the end of 2024.

“The museums, night market shops, restaurants and bars in the old quarter in Hoi An are really bustling again,” said Mikkel Krantz (pictured), Commercial Director of Wafaifo Hospitality. “With the upturn in tourism, the timing is right for us to unveil wonderful new hotel rooms and dining options that reflect Hoi An’s unique melting pot culture,” he said.

From 1 September, four room categories will be available at the new downtown resort: Faifo, Swim City, Faifo Terrace, and Wheelchair Friendly.

The initial inventory of rooms include balcony options, king-sized or twin beds, high speed WiFi, 24-hour room service, electronically switchable privacy glass between bedroom and bathroom, ‘see out, not in’ main window, anti-steam bathroom mirror, and all the amenities international guests would expect in a high-end urban resort in Asia.

On food and beverage, the Xua & Nay international and Vietnamese restaurant in the resort will have the only Josper oven and grill in central Vietnam. The charcoal-wood grill is renowned for giving a prized smoky flavour to grilled seafood, meats and vegetables.

“In rooms and food, our quality will be high, but pricing competitive,” said Mr Krantz. “We are creating a community experience where both locals and international tourists, we believe, will be pleasantly surprised and delighted in equal measure.”

From 1 September the resort will also give guests access to a 25 x 6-metre swimming pool and unprecedented wellness, spa, gym, fitness, beauty and health options unique to central Vietnam. There will also be DJ sessions by the pool, a cinema, kids’ club, outdoor playground and a retail lobby shop available from that date.

A highlight for visitors meeting or relaxing in the lobby and adjacent areas of the resort will be a replica Japanese Bridge, a water fountain that ‘dances to music’ and a terracotta statue heritage walk, all suitable for social media posts.

In October the resort will open its fully equipped, high tech meeting facilities.

In early 2025, the Wafaifo Resort Hoi An will also add luxurious suites and a signature Vietnamese fine dining outlet.

The name “Wafaifo”, said Mr Krantz, is a portmanteau word combining “water” and “Faifo,” the ancient former name of Hoi An, a city which grew to regional eminence as a major port in Southeast Asia which traded with merchants from Japan, China, Holland, England and France between the 16th and 19th centuries.

The architectural legacy of that period now attracts tourists from around the world and is a 10-minute walk away from the downtown Wafaifo Resort.

Vietnam’s Tourism Arrivals Rebounding

According to Statista.com,* Vietnam attracted 12.6 million international tourists in 2023, up from 3.6 million in 2022. Analysts at Wafaifo Optimisers, the resort’s inhouse tourism intelligence unit, predict that Vietnam has a chance to match its 2019 all-time high figure of 18 million visitors by year end 2024. Domestic tourism is already a robust and increasingly important market, it said.

Hoi An is a 40-minute drive from Danang International Airport in central Vietnam. Danang has direct air links with 22 cities in 11 countries and four destinations within Vietnam.

Other highlights being showcased include dusitD2 Feydhoo, an all-inclusive, family-friendly resort on a private Maldives island only five minutes by speedboat from Male airport (slated to open in Q4); Osaka Kansai Airport Hotel, the company’s third hotel in Japan (Q3); and the highly anticipated return of the flagship Dusit Thani Bangkok, which will reopen on 27 September 2024.

Situated in the same prime location as the original property, which graced the Bangkok skyline from 1970 – 2019, this highly anticipated, reimagined version of Dusit’s luxury flagship hotel sits at the heart of Dusit Central Park, a landmark mixed-use development also comprising ultra-luxury residences (Dusit Residences and Dusit Parkside), a state-of-the-art office tower, a high-end retail centre, and a 11,200 sq m Roof Park (all slated to open in 2025).

Seychelles Small Hotels Association Hold Successful Visibility Drive

843 485 wttc2

Seychelles Small Hotels Association Hold Successful Visibility Drive - TRAVELINDEXMahé, Victoria, Seychelles, April 29, 2024 / TRAVELINDEX / SSHEA, the “Seychelles Small Hotels & Establishments Association”, the official Association of the Seychelles hospitality establishments of below 25 rooms, held its first big gathering and gala dinner on Friday 12th April at the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort & Casino. The Association is said to be preparing for a dignified representation of its members in Tourism Road Shows and International Tourism Trade Fairs to ensure greater visibility and consequently, better promote their establishments in the main Seychelles main tourism source markets.

The highlights of the event were the launch of the gathering by guest of Honor, Minister Sylvestre Radegonde, the Seychelles Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism. This was followed by an enlightening discourse by the world-renowned speaker, the former Seychelles Minister of Tourism, Alain St.Ange, on the ‘Unique Selling Points’ (USPs) of Seychelles, especially its small Seychellois-owned and managed establishments and the unveiling of the SSHEA very ‘first cut’ of its promotional video that opened with a Seychelles sunrise and the distinct crowing of a very energetic cockerel. It went on for just over 4 minutes with pictures of what the authentic Seychellois kreol culture and sceneries have to offer. The clip ends with a Moutia around a fire on the beach.

Present were members of the Diplomatic Corps, high-level representatives from diverse corporate organizations, proprietors of small tourism establishment and SSHEA members from Mahe, Praslin and La Digue. Mr. Peter Sinon, Founding Chairperson of SSHEA, very ably acted as the MC for the evening.

In his official launching of the event, Minister Sylvestre Radegonde commended SSHEA, an association that is barely 8 months old, for having gone the extra mile in such a short time to be able to bring together over 250 guests at Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay for such an event. He pledged his continued commitment and support to the Seychelles small establishments that he makes a point to visit every Friday, when he is in the country. So far he has visited over 350 Small Hotels and Establishments. He laid emphasis on the need for all tourism stakeholders to work together to keep the destination attractive and pristine by practicing sustainable tourism. He sternly warned against practices that may kill the goose that lays the golden egg and urged caution by all stakeholders.

Mr. Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles former Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports & Marine started his talk by immediately dispelling the perceived dichotomy and rivalry between the big & small hotels. He said that the tourism industry relies on all its stakeholders, and it is necessary that the islands all need to pull in the same direction and work as a coordinated team. “It may be true that there are specificities amongst groups and levels of services on offer, but there is no doubt that we must all do our respective parts to the best of our respective abilities to encourage visitors to return or to positively recommend Seychelles in their respective reviews and word of mouth” said former Minister St.Ange.

Mr. St Ange pointed to the ‘proof in the pudding’ before our very eyes, This is through the partnership between SSHEA and Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort & Casino that falls in the larger hotels category. “Yet, there has been room for cooperation and collaboration” former Minister St.Ange said. He went on to state that when he looks around he sees sizeable corporations such as Seybrew, ISPC, Takamaka Rum distillery, the Banks, Eboo and others who have either sponsored the event and/or paid for their tables of 10 guests or more and this inclusive of the two largest Seychellois owned and managed DMCs being Mr Joe Albert of Creole Holidays and Mr Alan Mason of Mason’s Travel who personally responded positively to a sponsorship request from SSHEA. They are the two that inspired many Seychellois to join the industry since they both started from humble beginnings to be what and where they are today being our pillars and pride of our tourism industry.

Former Minister St.Ange pointed out that each and every guest is part of Seychelles unique selling points – ensuring that the visitor to Seychelles has a memorable experience that will either bring him or her back or recommend with some insistence for family and friends to follow in their footsteps to come and experience Seychelles.

From the time they walked in the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort & Casino lobby, guests were treated as special celebrities. They were invited to have their pictures taken by a professional photographer. They were then welcomed to enjoy a selection of 3 Takamaka Rum cocktails or mock tails, whilst listening to popular tunes by Ms Sandra Esparon. The event had all the ingredients for a successful if not excellent venue for good food, drinks, music, dancing and networking that ended happily after almost four hours of drinking and dancing.

Meliá’s luxury all-inclusive brand focuses on memorable local experiences in addition to upscale dining options and is already well-established in South America and Spain.

Meliá Pattaya City will start welcoming guests in December 2024 following a full renovation. Situated in the beachside resort town of Pattaya, a popular and convenient weekend getaway from Bangkok, Meliá Pattaya City will involve a renovation of the three-star, 234-room Grand Sole Pattaya, which will bring the hotel into alignment with Meliá’s Spanish ethos and charm. The new property will embrace its coastal location by expanding F&B seafood offerings with an all-day dining restaurant inspired by a local fisherman’s village. New bars and MICE spaces will draw their design from local culture. A kids club, fitness facilities and a theater will also be added.

Paradisus Jomtien Resort will debut in 2028. With its prime oceanfront location, the new-build will make the most of the ocean views with a 43-floor tower and 698 keys. In line with Meliá’s global eco-ambitions the new hotel will sport a more dynamic and sustainable facade, incorporating vertical tropical greenery into the exterior. Forty-four rooms will feature outdoor plunge pools merging with the skyline from their terrace. The property will also include multiple restaurants, a gym and spa, convention center and meeting rooms.

“The addition of these two hotels to our portfolio marks a major milestone in our long-term relationship with AWC,” said Gabriel Escarrer, CEO and Chairman of Meliá Hotels International. “We will build on the success of Meliá Koh Samui, Meliá Chiang Mai, and most recently INNSiDE by Meliá Bangkok Sukhumvit in Thailand with AWC.”

“AWC and Meliá share a commitment to sustainable tourism. We are delighted to expand our portfolio and strengthen Pattaya’s position as a global luxury lifestyle destination by introducing the flagship Meliá Hotels & Resorts brand and Paradisus by Meliá all-inclusive luxury brand to this vibrant beachfront city,” said Mrs. Wallapa Traisorat, President and CEO of AWC. “Pattaya’s unique positioning – with its close proximity to Bangkok, exciting activities, a variety of attractions, renowned seafood and international cuisine, and vibrant cultural scene – combined with Meliá’s extensive beachfront resort expertise, creates a special offering for global travelers seeking an unforgettable experience as well as strengthening Pattaya as a global sustainable tourism destination.”

“The Meliá Pattaya City, located within AWC’s mega mixed-use Aquatique, will strengthen the area to a new level of luxury with a world-renowned hotel operator and a variety of activities, while Paradisus Jomtien Resort will be one of the first luxury all-inclusive hotels, transforming and enhancing Pattaya into another luxury destination for leisure and MICE groups,” added Mrs. Wallapa Traisorat. “This collaboration will create significant value for the surrounding community and contribute to the Thai economy.”

Meliá Hotels International currently operates four hotels in Thailand and with this signing, the group brings the total number of properties (including pipeline) to eight across five major tourism destinations: Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui, Phuket and Pattaya.
