OurAfrica.Travel Announces New Partnership

1000 625 wttc2

OurAfrica.Travel Announces New Partnership TOURISMAFRICA.orgCape Town, South Africa, February 23, 2026 / TRAVELINDEX / OurAfrica. Travel is Africa’s only digital trade show, and has, since its inception during the 2020 lockdown, been all about collaborations and partnerships in the spirit of Ubuntu – driven by a desire to support the greater good of the whole African tourism community in an affordable, inclusive way.

Coming up for its seventh edition in March 2026, the show has always had an ethos of giving back at its core.  Each year, exhibitors are encouraged to “Nominate a Cause” – be it community or conservation based.

The benefits of a nomination were twofold:  an opportunity for these causes to showcase their impact on a global stage, as well as the chance to win a cash donation, in two categories, namely community and conservation.

For 2026, an exciting new partnership with Africa’s Eden means these two like-minded organisations will formally align their efforts. All nominations will now be vetted by sustainability experts and shortlisted through Africa’s Eden’s established Community & Conservation network. This ensures greater transparency and a focus on documented, measurable impact on the ground, rather than simply rallying votes.

To formalise this partnership, causes will only qualify for the nomination shortlist if they tick all the following boxes:

  • they are locally led,
  • they are legally registered non-profit organisations (NPOs)
  • are able to provide a copy of their annual report
  • must demonstrate how, in two ways, other than cash donations, how a tourism business can support them, i.e. conservation training or building schools, etc.

All qualifying charities should apply directly via the website.  Any additional queries should be directed to Africa’s Eden’s Impact Lead Conservation & Community, Melissa Foley.

For 2026, one nominated charity in each category will each receive a donation of R20,000 (USD 1200).

To date a total of R100,000 has been donated by OurAfrica. Travel to a number of different causes including the likes of ForRangers, Mukambi Community School in Zambia, How Many Elephants’ World Female Ranger Week, Foxes’ Community and Wildlife Conservation Trust, Parco and the Chigamane School in Mozambique.

Animal Activists Hit the Streets

Animal Activists Hit the StreetsChiang Mai, Thailand, February 19, 2026 / TRAVELINDEX / Farmed Animal Compliance Thailand (FACT) volunteers, dressed in chicken masks, recently took to the streets across Chiang Mai to raise public awareness on Marriott International’s publicly stated commitment to source 100 percent cage-free eggs by 2025, highlighting that the target may not be met yet.

Locking hens in metal battery cages is a practice in conventional caged-egg production, preventing them from performing natural behaviors such as wing-flapping, perching, and dust-bathing. This stark reality was demonstrated by FACT volunteers on the streets of Chiang Mai

Street Awareness Campaign

The group assembled in front of a Marriott property at Changklan Road, calling on the company to meet its cage-free sourcing goal. Passers-by were initially taken aback, but later expressed enthusiasm and support for the cause.

  • Tuk-tuk Campaigning: Donning their chicken headgear, the activists squeezed themselves into a tuk-tuk during the evening rush hour, representing the harsh and crowded conditions egg-laying hens face in a battery cage environment.
  • Night Bazaar Walk-About: The group also went for a walkabout at the Chiang Mai Night Bazaar located on Changklan Road, where one of them handed out multilingual leaflets to the crowd.

“The activity aims not only to raise public awareness on the conditions for farmed animals, but also on the role large corporations play in improving the welfare of these animals.” Supaporn Kidkla Director) from FACT said.

Implications & Impact: Regional Movement

The street actions in Chiang Mai are a part of regional efforts across Asia to promote transparency and public awareness regarding cage-free commitments by initiatives including Accountability Lens Asia, Bharat Initiative for Accountability, Indonesia Network for Compassionate Animal Farming, Malaysia Accountability Project, Malayang Manok PH, and Vietnam Animal Welfare Watch. Together, they are championing for a cage-free future across the region.

Members of the public can find out more and support the campaign by searching #HelpMarriottFindAsia on social media, or by visiting FACT’s website at facthailand.org

The 29th Bay Regatta 2026 Marks 29 Years of Sailing and Showcases Thailand’s World-Class Marine Destinations - TRAVELINDEXPhuket, Thailand, February 17, 2026 / TRAVELINDEX / The Bay Regatta returns for its 29th edition from 18–22 February 2026, marking nearly three decades as Thailand’s most distinctive passage-route sailing event. Organized by Regatta Asia, the regatta brings together sailors from more than 10 countries to race through the iconic waters of Phuket, Phang Nga Bay, and Krabi.

Now in its 29th year, The Bay Regatta remains the only regatta in Thailand to feature true passage racing, challenging keelboats and multihulls to sail open-water routes through limestone karsts, island channels, and world-renowned cruising grounds. More than 30 yachts are expected to compete, reinforcing Thailand’s position on the global sailing and marine tourism map.

An Iconic Route That Keeps Sailors Coming Back

The regatta’s defining feature is its iconic race route. From Phuket’s Ao Po coastline, fleets sail via Koh Yao Yai, threading through the dramatic seascapes of Phang Nga Bay before finishing in Ao Nang, Krabi—widely regarded as one of Southeast Asia’s most visually striking sailing passages.

Ever-changing scenery, protected waters, and navigational challenges combine to create a distinctive racing experience that balances competition with exploration. This unique blend continues to draw international sailors back year after year, positioning The Bay Regatta not only as a premier sporting event, but also as a destination sailing journey through Thailand’s most celebrated marine landscapes.

Strong International Fleet

The 2026 edition features a strong international fleet. Premier Racing Class, led by defending champions Team Hollywood (AUS) racing their TP52. The class will be contested by a competitive multinational field including Shahtoosh (HKG), Yasooda (GER), and Aftershock (AUS).

The IRC Class is headed by Australian sailor Craig Nichols with Alright (Sydney 40) from the Manly 16ft Skiff Club, joined by Estonia’s Mati Sepp aboard Gern Kard (FarEast 28R) and Denmark’s multiple-time winner Niels Degenkowl racing Phoenix (X ¾ Ton).

The Monohull Cruising Class comprises a mix of privately owned and chartered yachts. Notable entries include Slipstream (First 44.7), sailed by William Ashby, KimiKimi (Dufour 455 GL), sailed by James Duke, and the classic Swan II, built in 1969.

The Multihull Classes highlight Phuket’s boat-building capability, with nine of the twelve competing multihulls constructed locally, including six Stealth designs from Asia Catamarans.

A Legacy Beyond Racing

Each race day concludes with social gatherings at coastal venues across the three provinces, blending competitive sailing with cultural exchange and local hospitality. These events underscore The Bay Regatta’s long-standing role in supporting tourism-led economic activity while preserving the relaxed spirit that has defined the regatta for nearly three decades.

“The Bay Regatta has always been about more than competition. We are proud to promote high-value, sustainable marine tourism that contributes to regional economies across Phuket, Phang Nga, and Krabi through international participation and event-driven travel,” said Orawintanee Wattana, Organizer of The Bay Regatta and Director of Regatta Asia.

A special highlight of the 29th Bay Regatta is also the celebration of the opening of Port Takola Marina’s new Capitainerie, marking the second-phase expansion of one of Krabi’s key marine facilities. The programme will also include an additional social event to commemorate this milestone development, reflecting the growth of marine infrastructure in the region and Krabi’s rising profile as a hub for international sailing and yachting.

Sponsors & Partners
