Private Wine Tasting Series Launches at the Nusara - TRAVELINDEXBangkok, Thailand, April 7, 2025 / TRAVELINDEX / Thailand’s award-winning GranMonte Vineyard and Winery has launched its exclusive UNCORKED series with a radiant rooftop affair that truly set the tone for the year. Held at the elegant Nusara Rooftop, the first edition of GranMonte UNCORKED brought together Thailand’s leading food and beverage professionals, wine lovers, media and influencers, and artisans for an unforgettable afternoon of celebration, connection, and discovery.

GranMonte Vineyards and Winery, a family-run vineyard located in the lush Asoke Valley of Khao Yai, is internationally celebrated for pioneering Thai viticulture and crafting premium wines that express a true sense of place. The UNCORKED series is their latest initiative — a quarterly, invite-only tasting designed to unveil new vintages and specialty releases in creative collaboration with top venues and artisans across Thailand.

The debut event was co-hosted by Chef “Ton” Thitid Tassanakajohn and his brother, wine connoisseur “Tam” Chaisiri Tassanakajohn, the visionary duo behind Nusara Bangkok— one of Asia’s most talked-about Thai fine dining restaurants. With its rooftop space of stunning views of Bangkok’s palaces and a signature mix of Thai heritage and modern flair, Nusara offered the perfect launchpad for GranMonte UNCORKED.

Under a glass sunroof that bathed the space in golden light, guests enjoyed a standing cocktail-style tasting featuring 2024 GranMonte Elements Natural Wine Syrah, 2023 GranMonte Gradient Syrah Grenache Mourvèdre, 2024 GranMonte Bussaba Natural Sweet Wine, NV GranMonte Crémant Méthode Traditionnelle Extra Brut, 2024 GranMonte Elements Natural Wine Chenin Blanc and 2024 GranMonte Gradient Verdelho. Each wine was paired with specially crafted canapés that highlighted local ingredients while enhancing the wines’ nuanced profiles.

Guests enjoyed refined Thai canapés from Nusara’s kitchen, including the Kratong Tong with sea grape and coconut relish paired with Verdelho 2024 Elements, and Miang Fish—a bite of aged grouper topped with Dala sorbet.

A trumpet player layered funky live melodies over DJ grooves, creating an upbeat, soulful vibe. Around the room, local artisans like VIVIN (Thai artisan cheeses and charcuterie) and PRIDI Cocoa, along with GranMonte’s wine served in Lucaris (glassware), offered tastings and stories that added depth to the experience and underscored the event’s core theme — the union of Thai terroir and craftsmanship.

The vision behind UNCORKED is to gather the industry’s brightest minds, talents, and most passionate palates in an intimate setting and celebrate GranMonte’s deep history and bright vision for the future alongside the GranMonte ‘Lohitnavy’ family; Visooth (father), Sakuna (mother), Nikki (daugher) and Mimi (daughter).

Guests left with full hearts and already buzzing about the next edition. The UNCORKED series will continue throughout 2025, with each event revealing a new secret location and theme that reflects the character of the featured wines. Each event will be strictly by invitation only.

The Poor and Vulnerable Risk Being Overlooked in Escalating Trade Tensions

927 554 wttc2

The Poor and Vulnerable Risk Being Overlooked in Escalating Trade Tensions - TRAVELINDEXGeneva, Switzerland, April 5, 2025 / TRAVELINDEX / As major economies are set to impose sweeping new tariffs, UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) alerts that the global trade system is entering a critical phase – threatening growth, investment, and development progress, particularly for the most vulnerable economies.

Global economic growth could decline further: In a low-growth, high-debt global economy, higher tariffs risk weakening investment and trade flows – adding uncertainty to an already fragile context. This could erode confidence, slow investment, and threaten development gains, particularly in the most vulnerable economies.
The most vulnerable will bear the highest cost: Economies with minimal responsibility for global trade imbalances are facing severe penalties – despite being the least equipped to absorb new shocks.
Dialogue – not escalation – is the only path forward: The need for trade reform is clear. Trade imbalances, concentrated gains, and outdated rules must be addressed – without affecting those least responsible.

This hurts the vulnerable and the poor,” said UNCTAD Secretary-General Rebeca Grynspan. “Trade must not become another source of instability. It should serve development and global growth.” For businesses and policymakers alike, unpredictability and uncertainty in trade and investment is becoming a serious obstacle to growth and planning.

Vulnerable countries most impacted
Just 10 of the nearly 200 U.S. trade partners account for almost 90% of its trade deficit. Yet, for example, least developed countries and small island developing states – responsible for just 1.6% and 0.4% of the deficit, respectively – are being affected. They will neither help balance the trade deficit nor generate significant revenue.

Many low-income economies now face a “perfect storm” of worsening external conditions, unsustainable debt levels, and slowing domestic growth.

Time for dialogue, not escalation
While the need for trade reform is clear, UNCTAD stresses that the solution must come through dialogue and negotiation. Trade imbalances, concentrated gains, and outdated rules must be addressed – without sacrificing those least responsible.

“This is a time for cooperation – not escalation,” Grynspan said. “Global trade rules must evolve to reflect today’s challenges, but they must do so with predictability and development at their core, protecting the most vulnerable.”

UNCTAD calls on decision makers to urgently reconsider the tariffs imposed on the vulnerable countries, as these measures could inflict great pain on millions of people.

About UN Trade and Development
UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) is dedicated to promoting inclusive and sustainable development through trade and investment. With a diverse membership, it empowers countries to harness trade for prosperity.

PATA CEO Commends Inaugural NICE 2025 for Advancing Sub-Regional Cooperation - TRAVELINDEXKathmandu, Nepal, April 4, 2025 / TRAVELINDEX / The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) reinforced its commitment to sub-regional cooperation as CEO Noor Ahmad Hamid participated in the Nepal-India-China Expo 2025 (NICE 2025) in Pokhara, Nepal, and met with key tourism leaders including the Honourable Badri Prasad Pandey, Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation of Nepal, Honorable Mitra Lal Basyal, Minister for Industry and Tourism of the Gandaki Province, Binod Prakash Singh, Secretary of Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Deepak Raj Joshi, Chief Executive Officer of the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and Khem Raj Lakhai, Chair of the PATA Nepal Chapter.

“Nepal’s strategic position between two of the world’s largest outbound markets—China and India—creates unique opportunities for sub-regional tourism cooperation,” said Mr Hamid. “By fostering closer ties and joint initiatives, destinations in this region can unlock new visitor flows, develop shared tourism products, and build a more resilient and sustainable industry.”

“On behalf of the Nepal Tourism Board, we extend our sincere appreciation to PATA for endorsing NICE 2025 and sharing a thought-provoking presentation,” said Mr Joshi, acknowledging PATA’s contribution to the event. “Their support and strategic insights are instrumental in strengthening Nepal’s position as a vital hub for regional tourism cooperation. This collaboration plays a crucial role in advancing sustainable growth and fostering cross-border partnerships that will shape the future of our tourism industry.”

The meetings, organised by the PATA Nepal Chapter, took place alongside NICE 2025, the first-ever tri-nation tourism expo aimed at fostering tourism and trade partnerships across the sub-region. The event attracted over 600 delegates from 14 destinations, including more than 100 international participants, and was jointly hosted by the PATA Nepal Chapter, Nepal Tourism Board, Pokhara Tourism Council, and key public and private stakeholders.

Mr Lakai stated, “Nepal is poised for sustainable tourism growth, strategically located between India and China—two of the world’s largest populations and emerging economies. By strengthening regional collaboration, Nepal can serve as a neutral hub for diverse tourism segments, including solo travel, adventure, pilgrimage, weddings, wellness, and business events. The Nepal-India-China Expo 2025 was successfully organised to address these endeavours.”

The CEO of PATA delivered a keynote address at NICE 2025, emphasising the potential of Nepal’s Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) sector in driving overall tourism growth. Given Nepal’s strategic location between the world’s two largest outbound travel markets, China and India, he underscored the importance of defining a clear MICE strategy.

“Nepal needs to determine which MICE segment it will focus on, and PATA will be delighted to help develop a strategic framework for the country’s MICE industry,” Noor stated.

Citing Nepal’s rich history, vibrant culture, and stunning Himalayan backdrop, he highlighted opportunities in incentive travel, niche markets such as destination weddings (particularly for the Indian market), and adventure sporting events. He also stressed the need for infrastructure development to position Nepal as a premier MICE destination.

NICE 2025 also featured expert discussions on regional tourism trends, including China’s outbound market, aviation growth, wellness tourism, and the potential of Indian weddings in Nepal. The event’s B2B Expo facilitated over 2,100 pre-matched business appointments, bringing together 80 buyers from India and China with 75 sellers. The success of NICE 2025 underscored Nepal’s growing prominence as a sub-regional tourism hub and its commitment to strengthening cross-border collaboration for long-term sustainable growth.

PATA remains dedicated to fostering regional dialogue and partnerships that drive sustainable tourism development, recognising that collaborative efforts among neighbouring destinations are key to long-term success.
