Scott Dunn and Jacada Travel Join The Conscious Travel Foundation - TRAVELINDEXLondon, United Kingdom, March 12, 2025 / TRAVELINDEX / The Conscious Travel Foundation, a non-profit membership organisation championing sustainable and positive-impact travel, has welcomed a significant number of new members – including leading luxury tour operators Scott Dunn and Jacada Travel – as it continues to expand its influence in the travel industry.

Founded in 2020, membership now stands at over 100 travel companies, all participating in the Foundation’s community-driven education and philanthropy programmes.

Scott Dunn, the Foundation’s 100th new member, and Jacada Travel are among the latest UK-based tour operators to join, alongside The Unforgettable Travel Company and Steppes Travel. Further new members include Inclusive Morocco, ABOUTAsia (Cambodia), Panoramic Journeys (Mongolia), Reefscape (UK) and The Tailor (Australia). New properties include OKU Hotels, Riad Botanica (Morocco), Nikoi and Cempedek Islands (Indonesia), Uga Escapes (Sri Lanka) and UK marketing agency, Canopy Marketing.

Scott Dunn has been quietly working with nature-positive tourism consultancy, ANIMONDIAL, for the past 12 months as part of their commitment to taking action and embedding sustainable practices across all areas of the business, as of October they were joined by Charlie Darlington as Sustainability and Nature Positive Tourism Lead, a brand new position for the operator.

Maudie Tomlinson and Olivia Cryer, co-founders of The Conscious Travel Foundation said: “Scott Dunn joining us on our journey is a real milestone for the Foundation, as alongside co-founder Amy Welfare, we have a personal connection to the company, having all previously worked at Scott Dunn. It feels like we have come full circle and we are excited to be able to support Charlie and the team.

Charlie Darlington, Sustainability & Nature Positive Tourism Lead at Scott Dunn said: “Our newly formed Sustainability Committee received over 40 applications for 11 representative positions, which is a testament to the passion and drive amongst our team to do more for the natural world and communities in the places they operate in, and closer to home.

“Joining The Conscious Travel Foundation will enable us to build on our existing knowledge, learn from industry experts and guide our next steps as a team.

As luxury travel operators are increasingly investing in consultancy, certifications, and memberships with purpose-driven communities to accelerate meaningful change, The Conscious Travel Foundation has experienced a significant increase in tour operator memberships following its decision to welcome larger operators in late 2024. This expansion was driven by growing demand for learning resources, industry support, and peer-to-peer collaboration.

Maudie and Olivia said: “ We are also thrilled to welcome Jacada Travel to The Conscious Travel Foundation. As a leader in responsible travel, their dedication to sustainable tourism and collaboration perfectly aligns with our mission and brings additional sustainability expertise into our community from a tour operator’s perspective.

Natalie Lyall-Grant, Positive Impact Manager at Jacada Travel said of joining the Foundation: “At Jacada, we’ve always believed that travel can be a powerful tool for creating positive change, and put a firm focus on cross-sector collaboration, expanding our partnerships with industry experts and NGOs to enhance our ability to drive positive change.

“We see joining The Conscious Travel Foundation as a way for us to deepen our commitment to responsible travel, connect with like-minded businesses, and continue to educate ourselves on current best practice. Being a part of a collective also helps us to demonstrate the transparency and accountability that we believe is integral to responsible tourism.”

As membership grows, The Conscious Travel Foundation is expanding its philanthropic efforts. It currently supports four grassroots projects via its Community Impact Fund and a further 40 global initiatives through its Member Directed Giving scheme, where members fund projects in the destinations they operate.

“We measure our impact by the change we create in the industry,” said Maudie and Olivia. ” By sharing knowledge and expertise across our community, we can drive real, lasting change together.”

PATA Achieves Full Carbon Neutrality in 2024

1080 578 wttc2

PATA Achieves Full Carbon Neutrality in 2024 - TRAVELINDEXBangkok, Thailand, March 12, 2025 / TRAVELINDEX / The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) is pleased to announce that all of its activities in 2024 were carbon neutral. PATA has offset the emissions from its events through projects in Cambodia, with support from PATA member Sustainable Travel International, a global non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting responsible tourism. Other operations, including training, staff travel, and office emissions, were offset in Thailand through the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organisation.

Since 2022, PATA has been offsetting the carbon footprint of its in-person events, while also applying emission reduction strategies in accordance with the association’s Climate Action Plan and Carbon Neutral Events Guidelines. Despite these efforts, certain emissions, such as those from transportation, electricity consumption, and waste generation, cannot be fully eliminated. To address this, PATA continues to support credible carbon offset projects while simultaneously implementing strategies to minimise emissions at the source. This includes exploring sustainable event design, optimising digital solutions to reduce travel-related emissions, and strengthening collaboration with venues and suppliers that prioritise sustainability.

PATA CEO Noor Ahmad Hamid stated, “Sustainability is no longer an option; it is a responsibility. At PATA, we recognise the importance of leading by example and integrating climate action into every aspect of our operations. In 2024, for the first time, we achieved full carbon neutrality, offsetting emissions from all our events, operations, and capacity-building programmes. We are committed to do better in 2025 and years to come. We also encourage our members, industry partners, and destinations to collaborate with us in driving meaningful change and building a more resilient, low-carbon future for tourism.

PATA offset the emissions from the PATA Annual Summit 2024 (PAS 2024), held in Macao, China, in May, and the PATA Travel Mart 2024 (PTM 2024), held in Bangkok in August, through the Keo Seima Project. This project protects the Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary, a tropical forest in Cambodia that is home to the Indigenous Bunong people and a range of endangered wildlife. It reduces emissions by preventing deforestation while preserving biodiversity and supporting the legal rights of indigenous communities to protect their ancestral lands from illegal logging, poaching, and large-scale agricultural expansion.

In addition to its environmental benefits, the Keo Seima Project addresses the socio-economic drivers of deforestation by creating sustainable income opportunities such as climate-smart farming, ecotourism, and skills training in crafts and services. It also improves community well-being by enhancing access to clean water, healthcare, and education, while supporting the preservation of indigenous cultures.

Through the Keo Seima Project, PATA fully offset 354.75 MTCO2e* generated by PAS 2024 and 490.9 MTCO2e generated by PTM 2024.

A second carbon offset project, the Southern Cardamom Project, also located in Cambodia, was used to offset emissions from the PATA Destination Marketing Forum 2024 (PDMF 2024), held in Cha-Aam, Thailand, in November 2024. The project helps protect one of Southeast Asia’s last remaining primary rainforests, spanning over 4.5 million acres and home to more than 150 threatened species, including Asian elephants, clouded leopards, and Siamese crocodiles. The project is crucial in preventing deforestation, supporting wildlife conservation, and maintaining the region’s capacity to sequester carbon.

The Southern Cardamom Project also provides alternative income opportunities through ecotourism, conservation-based employment, and sustainable agriculture. By securing land tenure, providing access to micro-loans, and improving education and healthcare, the project fosters long-term economic stability, reducing reliance on forest exploitation. It also supports community-led forest protection with over 130 rangers patrolling the area to combat illegal logging and poaching.

Through the Southern Cardamom Project, PATA offset 120.91 MTCO2e for PDMF 2024.

The third initiative utilised to offset PATA’s emissions in 2024 was the PSTC Solar Farm 10 MW Project. This renewable energy project, registered with the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organisation (TGO), harnesses solar power to meet growing energy demands while supporting environmental sustainability. Located across Samut Songkhram and Sa Kaeo provinces, the project provides clean, renewable energy, reduces reliance on fossil fuels, and contributes to broader goals of carbon emission reduction and environmental preservation in Thailand.

Noor adds, “By investing in these initiatives, PATA is contributing to long-term environmental sustainability and community resilience, ensuring that tourism-related carbon offsets have a meaningful impact. As the tourism industry works towards a more responsible future, we remain committed to reducing our footprint while supporting projects that protect biodiversity, empower local communities, and safeguard the future of travel, while also encouraging our members and partners to do the same. In 2025, we will take further steps to refine our sustainability strategies, enhance our Climate Action Plan, and explore third-party verification of our emissions to ensure transparency and accountability.”

The PSTC Solar Farm 10 MW project enabled PATA to offset 95 MTCO2e from its general operations and other activities in 2024. These include PATA’s capacity-building programmes Tourism Destination Resilience and AI-Driven Transformation for Tourism SMEs, held in Kuching, Malaysia, in May and October, and the Macao MICE Forward: Innovate, Sustain, Excel – Smart Solutions Training for Sustainable MICE, held in Macao, China, in September.

For any queries, please contact SSR@PATA.org.

*MTCO2e is a unit of measurement that means a metric tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent.

PATA and Meaningful Tourism Centre Sign MoU - TRAVELINDEXPokhara, Nepal, March 11, 2025 / TRAVELINDEX / The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Meaningful Tourism Centre Ltd (MTC), a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to advancing sustainable and responsible travel and tourism through the principles of Meaningful Tourism. The agreement was signed and recognised on the stage of the Nepal-India-China Expo 2025 (NICE 2025), on Tuesday, February 25, in Pokhara, Nepal.

This MOU establishes a collaborative framework for both organisations to drive impactful initiatives that promote meaningful tourism. The agreement reaffirms the shared vision of shaping the future of tourism by fostering sustainable development and industry-wide collaboration.

PATA CEO Noor Ahmad Hamid said, “This partnership marks an important step in strengthening our commitment to tourism that is both responsible and impactful. By joining forces with the Meaningful Tourism Centre, we aim to enhance industry awareness and support initiatives that not only enrich traveller experiences but also bring tangible benefits to local communities, cultural heritage, and the environment.”

Meaningful Tourism Centre CEO Professor Dr Wolfgang Georg Arlt said, “Only a holistic approach which brings benefits and satisfaction to all stakeholders in tourism and hospitality will bring back the positive image our industry used to have as a provider of joy, new experiences and even peace. We have to organise our activities in a way which makes us part of the solution instead of being seen as part of the problem.”

As part of the agreement, PATA and MTC will jointly develop and share best practices, foster industry discussions, and advance research and capacity-building initiatives including trainings and workshops, as well as reciprocal activities such as speaking engagements and industry knowledge-sharing that support more meaningful travel experiences.

Meaningful Tourism is an approach that goes beyond sustainability by ensuring that all tourism stakeholders—travellers, businesses, employees, local communities, governments and the environment—benefit equitably. It emphasises responsible travel that fosters cultural appreciation, protects environmental assets, and enhances the overall experience for both visitors and hosts.

Meaningful Tourism provides a practical tool to identify and implement measurable benefits and satisfaction of all stakeholders, measuring them with SMART Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for continuous improvement.

„As Governor of Jalisco, I am honored and delighted to welcome ITB Americas to Guadalajara. Hosting the most important tourism event in the industry in the heart of Mexican culture is a privilege. ITB Americas is a key platform for fostering connections, driving innovation, and showcasing the best of the Americas to the world. Jalisco is the soul of Mexico, the land of mariachi, tequila, and rich traditions, making it the perfect setting for this global gathering. We look forward to welcoming industry leaders and sharing Jalisco’s rich heritage, dynamic tourism offerings, and warm hospitality with the global travel community,“ says Pablo Lemus, Governor of Jalisco.

Welcome to ITB Americas
Travel in 2024 sets the tone for dynamic growth in 2025
The latest data from IPK International’s World Travel Monitor® shows that North and Latin America play an important role in international travel. The increasing demand for travel to these regions is reflected both in the number of trips abroad and the growing popularity of destinations in North America and especially Latin America. A survey of travel intentions in 2025 confirms this and points to dynamic growth in travel for 2025.

Sharp increase in outbound travel from North America compared with 2023
Outbound trips from North America exceeded 2019 levels, as did trips from Latin America. Destinations on the American continent also benefited from a rise in international outbound travel in 2024 and from growing traveller satisfaction. As in previous years, the World Travel Monitor® shows variations in travel behaviour between North and Latin America, particularly as regards travel spending.

Positive growth in outbound travel from North America and Latin America
The Americas are displaying a positive trend in international travel. People in North and Latin America are increasingly travelling abroad. In 2024, outbound trips from North America grew noticeably. Year-on-year, the increase was around seven per cent, while compared with 2019 it was around five per cent. Outbound travel from Latin America rose quite sharply, by almost ten per cent year-on-year. The figures have now reached 2019 levels again. Overall, trips from the Americas account for about a quarter of global international travel volume.

With around 120 million outbound trips in 2024 and a stable growth rate of seven per cent, the USA remains the largest source market for international travel worldwide. International travel from Canada also recorded solid growth, although the volume has not yet reached 2019 levels. Outbound travel from Mexico increased at an above-average rate of 16 per cent year-on-year.

Mexico: Among the top 10 destinations worldwide
There is also a dynamic trend unfolding regarding destinations on the American continent. Travel to Mexico increased by eight per cent year-on-year and has already significantly exceeded 2019 levels. In the destination rankings, Mexico lies directly behind Spain, the USA, Germany, France and Italy. This makes Mexico one of the world’s most popular destinations, with the image of a safe and attractive tourist destination. The main source markets for travel to Mexico in 2024 were the USA, Canada, Argentina and the UK. IPK’s Destination Performance Index (DPI), which analyses the parameters of ’travel satisfaction’, ’recommendation’ and ’desire to return’ for all international holidays worldwide as part of the World Travel Monitor®, confirms high levels of satisfaction for Mexico as a travel destination, including for safety and attractiveness. With a DPI score of 59 points, Mexico ranks fifteenth worldwide, a significant improvement on the previous year.

Travel trends: focus on sun & beach destinations and city breaks
In North America and Latin America, certain holiday types are clear favourites. In both North America and Latin America, sun & beach holidays and city breaks outrank round trips and cruises. However, year-on-year trends vary. In Latin America, for example, city breaks in particular saw above-average growth in 2024, while in North America sun & beach holidays were on the rise. Round trips displayed a slightly negative year-on-year trend in both North America and Latin America.

Business and MICE travel are growing
In addition to holiday travel, business trips are increasing too. In North America in particular, they rose by 20 per cent year-on-year. The MICE travel market especially recorded high growth. MICE travel from Latin America grew at the much more moderate rate of three per cent in 2024. The trends in regular business trips also diverged: in Latin America, they rose by almost ten per cent, while North America reported a growth rate of six per cent.

More comfort: hotels remain the first choice
Travellers’ choice of accommodation also reveals interesting trends. Hotels are the preferred choice. Almost 60 per cent of all travellers in Latin America opt for hotels, compared to around half in North America. At the same time, there is growing demand for alternative and private accommodation. The growth in alternative paid accommodation (hostels, guesthouses, holiday apartments) in Latin America is particularly noteworthy, marking an increase of almost 20 per cent, which is significantly higher than in North America.

Rise in overnights and spending
Year-on-year, the average duration of outbound trips from the American continent rose marginally again, and at just below ten overnights slightly exceeded the global average. Travel spending per overnight also rose compared with 2023. In North America, however, the figure was still around 100 euros higher per night than in Latin America, which was due to more trips being taken within Latin America itself.

Visitors to ITB Berlin can gain additional specific insights into the industry at the ITB Berlin Convention 2025 from 4 to 6 March. This year, the travel industry’s leading thinktank features 17 theme tracks as well as orientation for tourism professional on four live stages.
