Alma Names Ngo Thi Thu Ngan as Director of Human Resources - TRAVELINDEXCam Ranh, Vietnam, March 17, 2025 / TRAVELINDEX / Ngo Thi Thu Ngan, a hospitality professional with two decades’ experience mostly working for five-star hotels and resorts, has been appointed director of human resources at Alma Resort Cam Ranh.

The Vietnamese national joins the award-winning 30-hectare beachfront resort on Vietnam’s Cam Ranh peninsula after working as the director of talents and culture at nearby Movenpick Resort Cam Ranh.

Before that, she was the human resource director at Wyndham Grand KN Paradise Cam Ranh and the human resource director at Glow Scenia Nha Trang Bay Hotel.

She has also worked as a human resources manager at Sunrise Nha Trang Beach Hotel & Spa, an assistant director at Tan Viet Corporate, and as an assistant director at Khanh Hoa Trading and Investment Company.

She studied a Bachelor of Law majoring in international and common law at Ho Chi Minh City’s University of Law, and worked in law before moving into hospitality. She has also studied numerous certificates.

Alma Resort’s managing director Herbert Laubichler-Pichler said she was an excellent fit to oversee the resort’s workforce.

“Ngan’s rich and diversified experience has seen her develop terrific leaderships and management skills,” Laubichler-Pichler said. “She is highly effective at communication and negotiation, decision making and teamwork. Originally from Bangkok where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Hotel Administration, Chef Emma has worked in some of Thailand’s top kitchens and hotels, and brings more than 15 years of culinary experience to this luxury beachfront resort, which was listed in the most recent MICHELIN Guide to Thailand with the distinction of “Two Keys”.

Prior to joining Banyan Tree Krabi, Emma was Chef de Cuisine at Avani+ Mai Khao on Phuket as well as at Anantara Desaru Coast Resort & Villas in Malaysia after several years at the Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel in Bangkok.

As the new Executive Sous Chef, she will oversee operations at Banyan Tree Krabi’s three dining outlets: The Naga Kitchen, an all-day venue serving international cuisine; Saffron, Banyan Tree’s signature Thai restaurant; and the beachfront Kredkaew Bar.

She joins a culinary team with a solid reputation for upholding Banyan Tree’s commitment to sourcing the most sustainable and seasonal products from local farmers, fishermen and distributors.

“At Banyan Tree Krabi, I am expecting a luxury hospitality experience focused on exceptional food & service, wellness, and environmental sustainability,” she said, noting that she was looking forward to improving her skills and infusing traditional southern Thai recipes into her latest culinary creations.

Among the gastronomic attractions at Banyan Tree Krabi is the Bird’s Nest, a trio of dining pods perched among the trees, and attached by a short walkway to Saffron, which is in turn accessible from the resort by a steep ride in an electric funicular. Meliá Announces New Resort in Phu Quoc Vietnam - TRAVELINDEXHo Chi Minh City, Vietnam, March 3, 2025 / TRAVELINDEX / A leading player in Vietnam’s hospitality scene, Meliá Hotels International, is adding a new hotel to the pipeline through an agreement with local real estate developer CityLand Group. The two companies signed a hospitality management agreement on February 20th, 2025 for a new five-star Meliá resort on the popular tropical island of Phu Quoc.

Meliá Phu Quoc Forest Bay will open along a sandy stretch of beach in the north of the island in 2028. This will be the third Meliá property on Vietnam’s largest island, joining Meliá Vinpearl Phu Quoc, in the northwest, and SOL by Meliá Phu Quoc in the southern part of Phu Quoc. The new partnership is Meliá’s first with CityLand Group, a leading real estate developer in Vietnam.

Meliá Hotels International has expanded rapidly in Vietnam in the last three years. At the start of 2022 the Spanish hotel group had six hotels and resorts throughout the country. The company now boasts 20 hotels in operation and six in the pipeline in Vietnam.

Stretching along 700 meters of pristine shoreline, Meliá Phu Quoc Forest Bay is set on a 21-hectare site within the Bai Thom master plan—one of the most promising areas in Northern Phu Quoc, with a total planned area of 173 hectares. The project will be developed in two phases. Phase one (expected to open in 2028) involves the launch of approximately 128 luxury villas and 130 hotel keys. Phase two (expected to be completed in 2030) will add approximately 108 villas, bringing the total room count to 773.

The property’s contemporary villas will range in size from 2-5 bedrooms, each with private pools.

There will be a variety of restaurants and bars within the lush tropical grounds, along with an oceanfront swimming pool, wellness facilities such as a gym and luxury spa, a kids club offering creative play experiences, an event space ideal for weddings, conferences and large-scale events.

New Openings

In Spain, Meliá began the year with the signing of a new hotel in Palma, further strengthening its presence in the Mallorcan capital. This will be the third INNSiDE by Meliá property in the city. Additionally, the company expects to announce new expansion projects in the coming months to enhance its portfolio, alongside the upcoming openings of ME Málaga (2025), Meliá Collection Ronda (2026), and Meliá Collection Cádiz (2026).

In Asia Pacific, Meliá is consolidating its leadership in Vietnam with 22 hotels open and another 5 in the pipeline, while reaffirming its interest in growing in Thailand and Malaysia.

Meliá Hotels International is also strengthening its presence and accelerating its expansion into new destinations, with its arrival in the Maldives set for 2025. Following the scheduled opening of Meliá Mahe in the Seychelles in 2026, the company is adding another project in the Indian Ocean, with the upcoming launch of a Meliá Amilla Fushi in the exclusive setting of the Maldives. This property will later be upgraded to meet the luxury standards of The Meliá Collection brand.

In the case of the Dominican Republic, the company highlights the incorporation of new brands, such as the recent arrival of ZEL, as well as the development of new growth areas like Miches and Puerto Plata. In Mexico, following the latest opening of Meliá Casa Maya, the company is accelerating its growth and plans to increase its presence from seven to 13 hotels in two years, with a strong push for its luxury brand ME by Meliá and the opening of ZEL Sayulita in 2026.

Regarding destinations in the Americas, the hotel company has also emphasized its renewed growth commitment in Latin America. In 2024, it announced a strong expansion in Argentina with new openings in Buenos Aires and signings like the future Gran Meliá Ushuaia. Meliá is also focused on expanding its bleisure presence in Brazil, Peru, Costa Rica, and Colombia.

The Middle East will be a new growth hub, where, due to the tourism boost in destinations like Saudi Arabia, the company has increased its resources to support the growth it expects to announce soon in the region.

The Repositioning Strategy: a Key Lever for Strengthening Hotel Brands

Meliá Hotels International is committed to the repositioning and rebranding of its most important hotels as a central pillar for strengthening its brand strategy, differentiating products, improving profitability, and enhancing customer satisfaction. Over the past two years, the company has repositioned 40 hotels in its portfolio, with investments exceeding €400 million, both from its own funds and those of its partners.

In Spain, notable examples include the reopening of the Casa de las Artes Meliá Collection and Meliá Ibiza hotels in 2023. Between 2023 and 2024, 23 hotels have been repositioned with an investment of over €235 million.

One of Meliá’s most anticipated repositionings for this year is the Paradisus Fuerteventura, bringing the luxury brand Destination Inclusive to another of the Canary Islands’ paradisiacal locations.

The brand will also make its debut in Indonesia following the repositioning of one of the company’s most iconic hotels, the historic Meliá Bali, which marked the beginning of the company’s international expansion; at the end of the year, it will be relaunched as Paradisus Bali.

Maximizing Revenue Through Expansion

Already present in 13 of the 15 most visited countries in the world, the hotel company closed 2024 with 19 new hotel openings and expects to open at least 25 more in 2025. The company remains committed to both qualitative and sustainable growth, which will be key to its success this year. Currently, 64% of its portfolio consists of premium and luxury hotels, and 81% of its project pipeline is focused on these segments.

Gabriel Escarrer Jaume, Chairman and CEO of Meliá Hotels International, reiterated the company’s commitment to maximizing revenue through expansion, a luxury and repositioning strategy, and direct sales channels during a press conference held at Fitur, an international tourism fair in Spain. He highlighted that Meliá’s luxury brand hotels already account for 40% of the operating contribution, with a RevPAR growth of over 30%.
