ACTA’s hosted a successful Summit in Toronto, despite hundreds of agents who similarly turned out for Transat and WestJet road show events during a busy week for the trade. Michelin Guide made its long-awaited debut in Toronto, a flight strike disrupted travel in France, new insurance options from Sunwing were unveiled, and Goway revealed the name of its elephant (you’ll have to read on to find out!).

NEWS

Real estate firm CBRE says Canadian hotels will return to pre-pandemic revenues next year, two years ahead of its previous forecast. The firm is projecting the Canadian hotels market will end this year at 92% of the revenue per available room achieved in 2019, before the health crisis began. It is forecasting moderate revenue growth will continue into 2023 as hotel operators push for higher room rates and projects revenue per available room will hit $107 next year.

The long-awaited first Michelin Guide selection was announced with 74 Toronto restaurants from 27 different cuisine types. The full list of restaurants can be found in the Michelin Guide Toronto and includes one Two-Star restaurant, 12 One-Star restaurants, 17 Bib Gourmand restaurants, and 44 recommended restaurants.

Many domestic and some international flights were cancelled in France late last week as air traffic controllers went on a national strike over pay and recruitment issues. Air France said it cancelled 55% of its short- and medium-haul flights and 10% of its long-haul flights. The company could not rule out further delays and last-minute cancellations, it said in a statement.

BORDERS

New Zealand removed most of its remaining COVID-19 restrictions – including vaccinations for tourists – as the government signalled a return to normalcy for the first time since the pandemic began. However, those who test positive for the virus must isolate for seven days.

BY THE NUMBERS

More than a million visitors were expected in London Monday for Queen Elizabeth II‘s state funeral. Over 100 Heathrow Airport flights were cancelled to prevent aircraft noise disturbing the event at Westminster Abbey and the queen’s committal service at Windsor Castle afterward. The west London airport said 15% of its 1,200 flights due to take off or land on Monday were disrupted.

AIR

Travel agency bookings for Porter Airlines/Escapes, are now available through the FTS platform, creating a more seamless process, says the airline. Travel agents can expect a number of upgraded processes, including faster commission payouts; detailed reports, including export functions; simplified management of branches in a self-serve fashion; and centralized promotions. Agencies can register and create a Flex Travel Solutions profile online.

Fort Lauderdale and Punta Cana are set to join Swoop’s winter schedule with service to the south Florida city to begin on Dec. 16 and the Dominican Republic destination on Jan. 11 – both from Hamilton, Ont., (YHM).

A new payment partner for Air Transat will enable the company to expand payment options for travellers and improve the management of working capital, says Transat president and CEO Annick Guerard. Through the collaboration with Nuvei, Air Transat has secured card acquiring capabilities with enhanced payment processing in 39 markets globally, a number that is expected to grow in the future.

DEALS

During the entire month of October, dozens of San Diego hotels, restaurants, attractions, museums, tours, and transportation companies will participate in the 11th annual “Kids Free San Diego,” which provides parents an opportunity to stretch their wallets with a variety of unique deals for kids, ranging from complimentary admission at local attractions to free meals at restaurants to welcome amenities and experiences at area hotels, and much more.

TOURS

Sunwing has introduced a new coverage option – Worry Free Plus. Customers can still purchase the Worry Free plan for $49, offering one change to their package or cancelling altogether up to three days before departure, or upgrade to Worry Free Plus (for $99), which allows one change, including the ability to transfer their package up to seven days before departure, or cancel their vacation package up to three hours before departure. Also available is Manulife Global Travel Insurance + Worry Free or Worry Free Plus plans, from $99 and $149 respectively. These plans combine Worry Free coverage options, plus emergency medical and quarantine coverage for fully vaccinated passengers, and unlimited trip interruption coverage following departure, including baggage loss, damage and delay, plus flight and travel accident insurance.

The Globus family of brands will lift its policy requiring all guests to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Guests booking a vacation that begins on or after March 1 will no longer need to be vaccinated against COVID-19 to travel on a Globus or Cosmos tour or Avalon Waterways cruise.

Among the new sailings is an eight-day cruise aboard Le Bellot to Panama and Costa Rica.

ATTRACTIONS & THEME PARKS

A world-record-setting themed roller coaster is part of Six Flags Fiesta Texas’s 30th-anniversary celebration in 2022. Opened this summer, the “Dr. Diabolical’s Cliffhanger” coaster has three 21-passenger trains to lift riders 45 m. in the air, then locks them in a face-first Cliffhanger hold just before dropping them down a 95-degree, beyond-vertical plummet at 100 kph. The machine travels on 760 m. of track through an Immelmann inversion, a 270-degree zero-g roll, a 23-m. near-vertical drop, a wild-banked turn, an extreme airtime hill, and a high-speed spiral finale.

INCENTIVES

Jamaica is celebrating the island’s 60th anniversary of independence this year and the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) invites agents to join in the celebrations. The “60 Nights of Surprises” and “60 Days of Fun Prizes” activations have been extended through Sept. 30 with daily prize giveaways and 20 trip giveaways to Jamaica. Each Jamaica booking during this time gives agents one entry into the draws.

EVENTS

Maureen Barnes-Smith and Gary Sadler of Sandals-Beaches, and Jamaica’s Raquel Queensborough, were among those on hand at the ACTA Summit

Around 330 delegates convened in the Metro Toronto Convention Centre Wednesday for the first in-person ACTA Summit since the pandemic. The mission: to assess their place in a world changed forever by the events of the past two and half years. Part town hall, info session, gripe fest, love-in, and pep rally, the gathering was universally acclaimed as a return to normalcy – a least a new normal. Additional Summits – free for agents (non-members are asked to donate to ACTA’s advocacy fund) – will be held in Richmond, BC, on Sept. 20 and Sept. 28 in Laval, Que.

Similarly, WestJet rolled out its roadshow Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver, while Transat wrapped up a week of events in Halifax.

Following the conclusion of its two-month naming contest for travel agents, Goway, in partnership with Kenya Wildlife Services, has announced the name of its sponsored Kenyan elephant: Tumaini, which means “hope” in Swahili. Every travel professional who made a booking to Africa with Goway over the past two months was invited to help name the sponsored elephant, which was selected by a panel. Ilisa Oman from Travel Planners International wins a free FAM trip to Kenya in November. Five other agents who participated will also be invited to join the FAM for a modest fee.

DESTINATIONS

Flight ride attraction FlyOver in Las Vegas is launching “Windborne: Call of the Canadian Rockies” on Sept. 26. The multi-sensory voyage uses a state-of-the-art moving platform with six degrees of motion that provides guests with the sensation of soaring via helicopter over the landscape as they feel every sweeping movement of the journey. United States Retains Position as World’s Biggest Travel & Tourism Market

500 293 wttc2

United States Retains Position as World’s Biggest Travel & Tourism Market - TOURISMAMERICA.org - TRAVELINDEXWashington D.C., United States, September 15, 2022 / TRAVELINDEX / The latest World Travel & Tourism Council’s (WTTC) Economic Trends Report reveals the U.S. remains the world’s biggest and most powerful Travel & Tourism market. UK sees biggest drop in the global rankings, China and Germany hold onto second and third position.

Its top ranking was reaffirmed, despite suffering long and damaging travel restrictions which did little to halt the spread of COVID-19 and only resulted in serious economic losses.

However, while its number one position was retained, the U.S. Travel & Tourism sector’s contribution to the nation’s economy fell by US$700 billion in 2019, to just under US$1.3 trillion last year.

Research by Oxford Economics for WTTC shows there has been no change in the top three countries – with China second and Germany third.

But the rankings are illusionary as the top economies bolstered their numbers through domestic travel, while international visitor numbers plummeted.

In the U.S., International traveller spend rankings saw it toppled from its pre-pandemic top position.

But despite the challenges of the past two years, the new report from the global tourism body shows business travel is on the road to recovery.

Julia Simpson, WTTC President & CEO, said: “Our report shows the resilience of the Travel & Tourism sector, despite the impact of travel restrictions around the world which failed to halt the spread of the virus.

“Despite a challenging macro environment, Travel & Tourism has bounced back. The world, with some exceptions, is travelling again. And we are seeing a resurgence in business travel. Over the next 10 years, Travel & Tourism growth will outstrip the global economy.”

WTTC’s data reveals that in terms of the Travel & Tourism sector’s contribution to GDP, China held onto its second position, with more than US$814 billion, while Germany remained the third biggest Travel & Tourism sector in the world, contributing US$251 billion to the German economy.

The UK slipped dramatically from fifth place in 2019 to ninth in 2021, with a contribution of just over US$157 billion, the biggest faller of the top 10 countries.

In terms of international traveller spend, France, which before the pandemic struck was in fourth place, overtook Spain, China, and the U.S. to grab first place.

China, which remains closed to much of the rest of the world, was in second place before the pandemic, but fell dramatically to 11th position in 2021.

Across Asia Pacific, major Travel & Tourism markets such as Thailand and Japan saw huge losses in international spending, which resulted in both markets – in fifth and eighth place respectively before the pandemic – falling out of the top 20 altogether in 2021.

According to WTTC’s predictions, worldwide business travel is expected to grow more than 41% this year. For the next 10 years it predicts business travel could grow an average of 5.5% annually and may return faster in the Asia-Pacific region.

WTTC predicts by 2032, China could overtake the U.S. to become the world’s biggest Travel & Tourism market.

The research shows China’s Travel & Tourism sector’s contribution to GDP could reach US$3.9 trillion by 2032, making it the world’s most powerful Travel & Tourism market, and India could leapfrog Germany to reach third place with a projected value of US$457 billion.

They will not only have the opportunity to discuss the main themes of wine tourism, but they will also have the chance to discover the beauties and the uniqueness of our hills. Our region is a pioneer in the world of wine tourism and among the first in Italy and in the world to interpret the demands of a constantly growing tourism market. The challenge today is to continue on this path, keeping the compass oriented towards a development looking to innovation, diversification and environmental, economic and social sustainability».

PUBS, PATIOS & BARS: The other side of Fredericksburg, Texas

600 275 wttc2

Fredericksburg, Texas, is known as wine country, but rest assured, the town also has some of the coolest bars around. From a favourite haunt of Waylon and Willie to a Texas-style beer hall that brews beer according to German purity laws, the suds set won’t feel left out while companions are tippling at tasting rooms in town, or at any of the countless (well 55 or so) wineries in the region and along the wine trail on route Hwy. 290.

I had the opportunity to do both during a recent visit to the under-the-radar town, which is located in central Texas approximately half-way between Austin and San Antonio in the heart of Texas Hill Country.

As Fredericksburg’s wine culture is more widely known, and touched on in a previous article, I’ll focus on some of the town’s beer bona fides here.

Originally settled by immigrants from Germany in 1846 (and named after Prince Frederick of Prussia), Fredericksburg’s vibrant beer culture comes as no surprise. In fact, the European town’s heritage is on full display in a plethora of German-style restaurants, beer gardens and breweries.

Fredericksburg Brewing Company

Foremost among them is the Fredericksburg Brewing Company, which presides over the town’s historic Main Street in a restored 1890s building with the claim of being the “oldest and most acclaimed brewpub in Texas.”

Compared to Europe, “old” is a relative term in the new world and FBC marks its establishment from 1994 as the first licensed brew pub in the state.

Today it produces six to eight beers seasonally with names like Not So Dumb Lager, Enchanted Red Ale, Honey Cream Ale, and Pioneer Porter, as well as “El Hefe” a Hefewiezen (wheat beer) true to town’s Germany heritage.

Guests can watch brewers like Kris Dixon at work, while enjoying a drink, and chowing on down on southern favourites like catfish, tacos and ribeyes, or German fare such as sausages, pork chops and schnitzel. (There is also classic pub fare like pizza, nachos, and wings).

Passersby can pop into a street-front “tap room” bar for beer to go, or venture into a larger establishment with its own brewing vats on display and a German-style beer hall and ‘biergarten’ in back. There are even 12 “Bed & Brew” rooms for rent in the style of a German gasthaus (inn), prompting the pub to declare itself “The perfect adult retreat… Instead of breakfast, we have beer!”

Dixon says the brewery – the only one on Main St. – is a popular respite from shopping in the historic district, and for husbands to hang out while wives carry on in the shops. The establishment is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

Kris Dixon, Fredericksburg Brewing Co.

Altstadt Brewery

Meanwhile, Altstadt Brewery, opened more recently in 2018, is an authentic Bavarian brewery whose mission is to create “the purest, easy-drinking beers guided by the historic German purity law of 1516” and overseen by a German brewmaster.

Award-winning beers brewed onsite range from German white (wheat) to black (malt) beers, a light beer, and a bock, and even Bamberg-style “smoked beer.”

The “old world”-style brewery is located about 10 minutes from town on a 50-hectare estate (at 6120 East US290 on the way to the wineries) and includes a fine dining restaurant, speak-easy cellar, patio, and beer hall. Tours ($20) are conducted on Thursdays and Fridays on a first-come-first-served basis and limited to 20 guests (reservations required for groups of 10 or more).

Aldstadt is open Wednesday to Saturdays from noon, closing at 8 Wed. and Thurs., and 9 on Fri. and Sat. Sundays are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (closed Mon.-Tues.).

Luckenbach Texas

And there’s Luckenbach. Described as “its own little city” – population 3 – the destination is a historic “ghost town” come music-bar venue located about 20 km southeast Fredericksburg.

With wandering chickens, horseshoe pit, fishing holes, post office, general store/gift shop, a single food truck (serving a renowned pulled pork sandwich), dancehall (can you say line dancing?) and multiple stages offering live music 364 days a year – occasionally including notable names like Robert Earl Keen – the unique venue is a family-friendly attraction for locals and visitors alike.

Said to be Willie Nelson’s “favourite place in the world,” Luckenbach also gained fame in the Waylon Jennings hit “Luckenbach, Texas (Back to the Basics of Love),” which included vocals by Nelson, and really hit the big time (kidding) when it was covered in the Alvin and the Chipmunks movie.

Less about the type of beer served than its quirky gathering place vibe (open after 5 and always “packed”), Luckenbach thrives as unique Texas destination and local institution. “This,” one patron enthused, “is about as real as it gets.”

With a nod to its burgeoning beer culture, Fredericksburg hosted its first craft beer festival in the town square in June with the participation of 16 local brewing companies. Local officials expect a follow-up event to take place next year.

With glass purposefully in hand, we at Travel Industry Today continue our series on some of the planet’s best bars, patios and rooftop venues. For more articles in the series, click here:

LISTENING IN: The Eagles still soaring

1080 608 wttc2

They’re no longer the new kids in town – in fact, it’s been just over 45 years since The Eagles released their epic LP “Hotel California,” which the band is playing in it’s entirety in concerts at dates across Canada as we speak.

Such is the import, and acclaim, of the album that Don Henley and the boys (notably missing the band’s co-founder, the late Glenn Frey) can do so. After all, who can’t sing almost every word of the title track – “you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave!”?

But one song doesn’t a classic album make and there were other hits – such as “Life in the Fast Lane” and, of course, the first single “New Kid in Town,” which reached No. 1 in its own right in the US and Canada.

The Eagles currently do a great job with Vince Gill filling in for Frey, who died too soon of an illness in 2016, but like most things, the original always seems best, so in case you aren’t catching The Eagles on tour, we give you this version of “New Kid” (from a 2004 concert in Melbourne, Australia), which proves, without a doubt, that we still love you, Glenn, even when you’re not around.

Lyrics

There’s talk on the street, it sounds so familiar
Great expectations everybody’s watching you
People you meet, they all seem to know you
Even your old friends treat you like you’re something new

Johnny come lately
The new kid in town
Everybody loves you
So don’t let them down

You look in her eyes, the music begins to play
Hopeless romantics, here we go again
But after awhile, you’re lookin’ the other way
It’s those restless hearts that never mend

Oh, Johnny come lately
The new kid in town
Will she still love you?
(A-a-h…) When you’re not around…

There’s so many things you should have told her
But night after night, you’re willing to hold her, just hold her
Tears on your shoulder

There’s talk on the street, it’s there to remind you
Doesn’t really matter which side you’re on
You’re walking away, and they’re talking behind you
They will never forget you ’til somebody new comes along

Where you been lately?
There’s a new kid in town
Everybody loves him, don’t they?
(A-a-h…) And he’s holding her
And you’re still around…

Oh, my-my
There’s a new kid in town
Just another new kid in town…(Ah, ah, ah)
Ooh, ooh, Everybody’s talking ’bout
The new kid in town (Ooh hoo)
(Ooh hoo) Everybody’s walking like

All-Inclusive by Marriott Bonvoy is proud to welcome the 30th all-inclusive property in its Caribbean and Latin America portfolio with the opening of Sanctuary Cap Cana, a Luxury Collection All-Inclusive Resort, Dominican Republic. This iconic adults-only resort marks the first luxury all-inclusive resort for Marriott International and joins the celebrated ensemble of experiential hotels by The Luxury Collection brand. Located just 15 minutes from Punta Cana International Airport and nearby the Punta Espada Golf Club, the Caribbean’s number one golf course, Sanctuary Cap Cana combines beautiful architecture and design with impeccable service and lavish accommodations.

“Cap Cana is one of Dominican Republic’s most coveted areas offering an inspiring getaway for our global explorers with a stretch of white sanded beaches, turquoise waters, and architecture resembling a storied colonial Spanish era,” said Brian King, President, Caribbean & Latin America for Marriott International. “Sanctuary Cap Cana is proof of our commitment to provide discerning travelers with unique vacation retreats to continue collecting timeless memories, now in a convenient luxurious all-inclusive format.”

“The Luxury Collection is thrilled to expand its portfolio of destination-defining hotels and resorts with the opening of Sanctuary Cap Cana,” said Philipp Weghmann, Vice President and Global Brand Leader for The Luxury Collection. “As a brand, we look forward to elevating the all-inclusive experience through the unique lens of The Luxury Collection, inviting guests to embark on new and transformative travel experiences.”

Sanctuary Cap Cana features 324 refined suites across its 19 unique room categories, including oceanfront luxury villas, and private island suites, with exquisitely furnished terraces and private pools overlooking the sea. Guest rooms present a design inspired by the timeless beauty of Europe’s Mediterranean coast. The grandest accommodation is the Castle Island Suite, a 5,500-square-foot, two-level suite on a private island with a master bedroom, secondary bedroom, two and a half bathrooms, expansive living room, full dining room, and three indoor plunge pools with floor to ceiling windows showcasing infinite views of the Caribbean Sea.

Sanctuary Cap Cana is an ultra-luxury experience in which guests can expect a top-of-the-line service and quality that can’t be matched at the all-inclusive level,” said Gregory Maliassas, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Playa Hotels & Resorts.“ This resort is the perfect choice for the level of style and sophistication that has made Marriott’s The Luxury Collection resorts the standard-bearer for unique, one-of-a-kind vacations and we are honored to be partnering with the Marriott team.”

With many curated epicurean experiences, Sanctuary Cap Cana offers four a la carte restaurants featuring cuisines such as Italian, seafood, Asian, and a steakhouse; a buffet restaurant open for daily breakfast and lunch; a coffee shop; deli; and seven bars. The Capriccio and The Steakhouse restaurants are the two signature restaurants onsite. The notable Sanctuary Town, located right across from the resort’s main lobby, acts as an extension for guests to dine and explore with distinctively designed venues offering a wide array of gastronomies: from a Burger Factory, a Sushi town, or Mama’s Forno pizza prepared in a wood fire oven to a Spanish Tavern among other offerings, while live entertainment is showcased on some weekdays.

The property features six pools for relaxation, or if preferred, cabanas and sunchairs on the beach, ideal to lounge all day, soak up the sun, and unwind while savoring local and international beers or cocktails from the Beach Bar, all while surrounded by impeccable personalized service.

For those seeking a sanctuary for the senses, the Sanctuary Spa lives up to its name with a sublime atmosphere of pure indulgence. A majestic oasis, the Sanctuary Spa showcases ayurvedic treatments, hydro and cutting-edge therapies combined to offer the ultimate spa experience, including beauty shop services and couples massage cabins featuring a romantic bathtub that can be arranged with champagne and chocolate delights.

The resort is poised to be the backdrop for unequaled events facing the Caribbean Sea, with matchless facilities offering of approximate 46,000 square feet of event space, 17 event rooms of indoor and outdoor venues, and 400-people capacity in its largest space.

Guests can discover through Sanctuary Cap Cana the Dominican Republic’s intrinsic beauty, an ideal destination with a variety of sophisticated activities that can be reserved through The Luxury Collection Concierge service, such as water sports, outdoor activities, shopping, and dinner reservations to once in lifetime Dominican adventures.

Raffles Hotel Le Royal Appoints Martin Becquart as New Executive Chef - TRAVELINDEXPhnom Penh, Cambodia, September 15, 2022 / TRAVELINDEX / Raffles Hotel Le Royal has tapped the Laos-born, French-raised Martin Becquart to lead the culinary team at one of Cambodia’s most legendary hotels.

The hotel’s new Executive Chef brings nearly three decades of experience to his new role as overseer of Raffles Hotel Le Royal’s celebrated restaurants and bars, including Le Phnom 1929, a Parisian-style brasserie; Restaurant Le Royal, known for its authentic Royal Khmer cuisine; and the iconic Elephant Bar, home to the hotel’s famed Afternoon Tea.

His professional journey has taken him to all corners of the world, working in renowned five-star hotel kitchens in Europe, South America, the Caribbean, the Middle East, the United States and Asia. He received his formal culinary training in France and describes his cooking style as strongly influenced by classic French techniques with notable inspirations from his global travels. Becquart consistently champions top-quality seasonal and local ingredients.

“Chef Martin’s remarkable 27-year culinary career has involved serving meals to heads of state and top executives—and he has a deep knowledge of French culinary traditions. His newest offerings at Le Phnom 1929 and Elephant Bar spotlight some of the breadth of what he can do,” said Raffles Hotel Le Royal’s General Manager Dennis de Groot.

In his first move as Executive Chef, Becquart has rolled out two new dining experiences, including a French-focused culinary tour and a new Mediterranean mezze special.

In the new “Culinary Tour” at Le Phnom 1929, diners can explore French cuisine through a journey that takes in highlights from the country’s most celebrated gastronomy regions, such as Brittany, Normandy, Alsace and Paris. Standout items on the new menu include Galette Au Sarrasin “Complète,” featuring egg, torchon ham and comté cheese; and Far Breton, thick custard cream cooked with black prunes flambé with rum.

The “Culinary Tour” features three separate dining opportunities: The Regional Business Lunch, available from Monday to Friday, includes a 2-course or 3-course set menu starting from USD 20 net. The Regional A La Carte menu features popular dishes starting from USD 9 net. And the Themed Sunday Brunch (from USD 65 net) involves a lavish weekend spread.

Raffles Hotel Le Royal has also introduced a new “Mediterranean Mezze” special at The Elephant Bar. Diners can enjoy traditional treats, wines and cocktails from Lebanon, Greece, Italy, Spain and France, with live music every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. For every bottle of wine purchased at The Elephant Bar, guests will receive a complimentary mezze platter. Spotlighted items on the new mezze menu include Pissaladière (onion, black olives and anchovy flatbread) from France and Tomato and Basil Bruschetta from Italy.

Voted the “Best Hotel in Cambodia”, Raffles Hotel Le Royal originally opened in 1929. The hotel features 175 rooms and suites that underwent a full refurbishment as part of a meticulous one-year restoration project in 2019.

The Reverie Saigon Introduces New Executive Chef Marcelo Geraldini - TRAVELINDEXHo Chi Minh City, Vietnam, September 15, 2022 / TRAVELINDEX / The Reverie Saigon has appointed Marcelo Geraldini as its new executive chef, a move that’s set to bolster the landmark five-star hotel’s emergence as a world-class dining destination.

The Brazilian-born chef oversees one of Vietnam’s most dynamic hotel culinary programs, including the recently launched Italian fine dining restaurant Da Vittorio Saigon. The family-run Da Vittorio group based in Italy boasts eight Michelin stars globally across four other restaurants in Brusaporto (Italy), St. Moritz (Switzerland), Paris (France) and Shanghai (China).

Geraldini, whose background includes Italian and German roots, is a graduate of Westminster Kingsway College, one of the U.K.’s most renowned and prestigious hospitality schools. He later gained experience in the one-Michelin-star restaurant, The Hardwood Arms in London, and other highly respected restaurants in England, as well as in his hometown of Sao Paulo.

The chef arrived in Vietnam in 2016 and played an active role in several restaurant pre-openings and renovation projects for WMC Group, the management company of The Reverie Saigon. Geraldini joined The Reverie Saigon as executive sous chef in 2017.

“Perhaps more than anything else, Chef Marcelo brings a unique passion to our culinary operation at The Reverie Saigon. His love and appreciation for fine cuisine is strongly complemented by his warm, personalized service approach and overall commitment to excellence,” said James Young, Vice President of WMC Group.

Geraldini says he takes a hands-on approach to managing the hotel’s multiple kitchens, beginning with sourcing the highest-quality, freshest ingredients all the way to preparation, cooking and serving the final dish to guests.

“To create a dining experience that is above and beyond a guest’s expectations—that is what I consistently strive for,” Geraldini said.

The Reverie Saigon is home to a number of acclaimed culinary outlets, including The Royal Pavilion (celebrated for its Chinese dim sum), Café Cardinal (one of Southeast Asia’s most distinctive all-day dining venues, with French influences), The Long @ Times Square (a casual sidewalk-style trattoria) and The Reverie Boutique (sweets, treats, coffee and more).

About The Reverie Saigon

A member of The Leading Hotels of the World, The Reverie Saigon offers a truly astonishing hotel experience – showcasing extravagant, unapologetic European opulence in a storied Asian setting. The dazzling hotel features 286 rooms and suites alongside 89 residential-style suites, all of which are among the largest in the city and feature incomparable views of the Saigon River and the city skyline.

Renowned Italian brands furnished the rooms and suites and set the ambiance with exquisite and, in some cases, one-of-a-kind pieces. The property features five distinctive food and beverage outlets, a 1,200-square-metre spa & fitness centre, an expansive outdoor swimming pool and a range of versatile function spaces. In addition, guests have a fleet of over a dozen luxury automobiles at their disposal as well as exclusive access to the hotel’s very own yacht.

The Reverie Saigon is located in the 164-metre-tall Times Square Building, a mixed-use development that includes eight storeys of premium office space and the showrooms of some of the same high-end Italian furniture brands whose pieces are featured throughout the hotel.
