Meliá Hotels Adds Kobi Onsen Hue to its Vietnam Portfolio

900 600 wttc2

Meliá Hotels Adds Kobi Onsen Hue to its Vietnam Portfolio - TRAVELINDEXHo Chi Minh City, Vietnam, September 18, 2024 / TRAVELINDEX / One of the largest hotel groups in Vietnam, Meliá Hotels International, inked an agreement with local player BB Group Hospitality this month, bringing Kobi Onsen Resort Hue into the Spanish company’s fold.

Joining Meliá Vinpearl Hue, this unique hot spring resort, will be the hospitality group’s second hotel in the city and its 20th hotel in Vietnam. From September 1st 2024, the group started managing the property under the name of Kobi Onsen Resort Hue, Affiliated by Meliá. It will then undergo a rebranding process over the next 12 months emerging as Meliá Hue Kobi Onsen Resort next year.

Kobi Onsen Resort Hue, Affiliated by Meliá is located on the outskirts of Vietnam’s former capital, close enough to explore the Imperial City but far enough away to reap the benefits of the property’s serene and healing setting. Tapping into the natural mineral-rich hot springs of My An, the main draw of this spacious 155-key resort is its broad range of curative waters, along with wellness facilities and treatments that draw inspiration from the region.

“The latest addition to our Vietnam portfolio strongly aligns with one of our key values, which is ensuring the overall wellbeing of each of our guests,” said Ignacio Martin, management director for Meliá Hotels International in the APAC region. “Through properties like Kobi Onsen Resort Hue we are helping raise awareness of the importance of living a balanced life while also showing our passion for caring for all our guests’ wellbeing on a holistic level.”

In addition to a traditional onsen with indoor and outdoor hot spring baths separated by gender, the resort features a range of wellbeing facilities, including a steam bath, soda bath, dry sauna, and Himalayan salt sauna. Wellness treatments integrate oriental medicine and massage practices once used by the royal family in Hue, as well as herbal treatments used by the Red Yao people, who are renowned for their healing herbal baths.

The resort features tranquil Japanese-style gardens and the largest koi pond in Hue designed to offer a feeling of serenity. The Japanese carp within the waters symbolize good fortune and good luck. Other wellbeing offerings include an outdoor swimming pool, well-equipped fitness center and a golf simulator.

Several dining facilities are located on site including authentic Japanese cuisine, along with a restaurant serving local and European dishes. Rooms, suites, and villas range in size from 36-square-meters to 255-square-meters with spacious the property’s 11 one-of-a-kind villas featuring private onsens.

The property is a 30-minute drive from Phu Bai International Airport and less than 15-minutes from the UNESCO-designated Complex of Hue Monuments. This former feudal capital was the political and cultural heart of the country for close to 150 years and its rich history remains with preserved ancient palaces and shrines along with the Forbidden Purple City. While the less-touristy destination of Hue offers travelers a glimpse into the country’s past, it also is a destination rich in ancient wellness traditions making it an ideal location to slow down and focus on wellbeing.

“Through BB Group we are continuing to grow our presence in the country with trusted partners who are also passionate about building the tourism industry in Vietnam in a sustainable manner,” said Gabriel Escarrer, CEO and chairman of Meliá Hotels International.

The signing of the company’s 20th hotel in Vietnam marks a significant milestone, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of Meliá Rewards loyalty program. To celebrate, members can enjoy best prices, exclusive discounts, and a host of surprises across all properties in Vietnam and over 400 hotels worldwide.

Zentis Osaka Launches New Stay & Savor Package

900 599 wttc2

Zentis Osaka Launches New Stay & Savor Package - TRAVELINDEXOsaka, Japan, September 19, 2024 / TRAVELINDEX / Zentis Osaka, the city’s only Design Hotels member property, is launching a new ‘Stay & Savor’ package that combines afternoon tea with a two-night stay and daily breakfast. Since opening in 2020, the hotel has been lauded for its sophisticated style and stellar dining at UPSTAIRZ Lounge, Bar & Restaurant.

Making Michelin Guide’s inaugural list of ‘Selected Restaurants’, UPSTAIRZ’s most novel offerings is its ever-changing afternoon tea service. The set’s tiered presentation is a homage to the hotel’s central staircase, which leads guests from the lobby to UPSTAIRZ. Carved out of blue limestone, the asymmetric staircase is one of the design elements dreamed up by Tara Bernerd & Partners, the firm behind the hotel’s interior.

Designed to showcase the best of each season, the latest afternoon tea presentation (available through 30 November) is all about premium grapes – weaving in the rich, refreshing tastes of the Shine Muscat, Nagano Purple and Queen Rouge varietals that are coveted each year as summer transitions to autumn and Japan’s grapes reach their peak ripeness.

In addition to serving up three varietals, sweets presentations include a grape & perilla verrine, a Shine Muscat tart and macaron, a fragrant olive & vanilla mousse, and a mont blanc with a hint of cassis liqueur. To balance and complement, savory selections include a fig caprese salad with prosciutto, braised Flemish pork & chestnut crêpe, and a beef bresaola & beetroot tart.

To pair, guests can opt for free-flow tea – with selections such as pink rose, bergamot peach or UPSTAIRZ’s special blend – or a glass of champagne (at additional charge).

Though the menu changes with each season, the setting in which the artful afternoon tea is served remains unchanged – airy UPSTAIRZ Lounge, with its lofty ceiling, abundance of natural light and a shaded outdoor terrace framed by greenery.

Also included in the stay package is breakfast at UPSTAIRZ Restaurant, the hotel’s main dining area. Featuring an open kitchen, the cozy dining room serves up three styles of breakfast for guests to choose from, including American and vegan. The signature offering is the chef’s original presentation of a daily assortment of seven, tasting-size Japanese dishes (in addition to soup and Japanese omelet).

Accommodations range from Studios – popular with solo travelers – to more spacious Corner Studios with deep-soaking tubs, a favorite of couples, and suites with separate living areas. The minimalist Japanese aesthetic of each guestroom extends to functionality, with the overall design taking inspiration from the modularity of bento boxes.

Designed to foster work and play, the hotel’s Guest Lounge invites conversation and productivity. A communal table, cut from a cypress tree, holds pride of place for those intent on getting down to business while recessed banquettes present cozy spaces in which to unwind. Just beyond is the hotel’s garden area with terrace seating – with floor-to-ceiling windows and a see-through fireplace seamlessly connecting the two spaces.

Rates for Zentis Osaka’s ‘Stay & Savor’ package start at JPY 56,500 for Studio accommodations (based on single occupancy), inclusive of taxes and service charge.*

*Maximum occupancy varies by accommodation type

*Booking requests must be made at least three days in advance

*Afternoon tea service is limited to the 3:00 pm seating for the day of arrival or the following day.

Advance reservations required. Desired date to be advised at time of booking request.

ABOUT ZENTIS OSAKA
Zentis Osaka is the debut property of Palace Hotel Group’s Zentis label, a brand with designs on raising the bar on select-service hospitality. Sixteen stories tall, the contemporary build features interiors by internationally renowned UK design firm Tara Bernerd & Partners and a pedigree that stems from the award-winning Palace Hotel Tokyo – the independent, homegrown brand that has redefined luxury Japanese hospitality.

Subtly edgy, wonderfully Japanese and naturally resplendent, the 212-room hotel pays homage to a city known for its industrious charm with an industrial chic look and laid-back feel. Osaka’s first addition to the bespoke collection of Design Hotels features local design touches, including shigaraki-yaki bedside tables crafted in the kilns of Shiga, shodo-inspired wallpaper installations and contemporary works by a local artist.

The dining concept at UPSTAIRZ – the hotel’s lounge, bar and restaurant – was conceived by a team with a Michelin-star track record and features a menu with Japanese and French influences.

Meliá Hotels Recognized Globally for Environmental Efforts

900 532 wttc2

Meliá Hotels Recognized Globally for Environmental Efforts - TRAVELINDEXPalma de Mallorca, Spain, September 5, 2024 / TRAVELINDEX / TIME magazine is hailing Meliá Hotels International as the most sustainable company in the tourism sector, designating the Spanish hotel group a number-one pick in the ‘World’s Most Sustainable Companies of 2024’.

The inaugural list includes 500 leading companies from more than 30 countries. Meliá Hotels International obtained the highest score in the tourism sector worldwide and occupies 114th place in the global ranking among all industries. The hotel group has also positioned itself in eighth place among the 25 Spanish companies that appear in the ranking.

The TIME announcement comes at the same time that Meliá secured its commitment to sustainability through Ecostars, an internationally recognised certification that evaluates and rewards sustainable practices in the hotel industry.

Twenty-seven hotels in Asia have already achieved ratings ranging from certified to Silver level. The highest-ranked hotels within the region are Meliá Bali and Meliá Purosani Yogyakarta, both in Indonesia. Meliá Makassar and INNSiDE Yogyakarta, also in Indonesia, achieved a Bronze rating, along with Meliá Vinpearl Hue and Meliá Vinpearl Phu Ly in Vietnam and Meliá Koh Samui in Thailand.

The globally-recognized Ecostars standard evaluates the sustainability of hotels, considering factors related to environmental management and energy efficiency, such as energy consumption, use of green energy, water management, waste management, carbon emissions and sustainable purchasing.

“Having an assessment as solid as Ecostars across our entire portfolio in ownership, rental and management, not only strengthens our reputation, but also directly enhances our business results, since, as a recent study conducted by Booking.com shows, a visible positioning in sustainability is valued by customers and translates into an increase in bookings,” said Gabriel Escarrer, president and CEO of Meliá Hotels International.

For Meliá Hotels International, another strong point of the Ecostars certification is its global nature, as it is used and recognised all over the world. The portfolio assessed by Ecostars is distributed geographically as follows: 160 hotels in Europe, 60 in the Americas, 40 in Asia and 10 in Africa.

Earlier this year the group was recognized as one of the top-performing hotel companies globally according to the latest Sustainability Yearbook by S&P Global. The leading financial ratings and market analysis provider ranked Meliá in third place and the first European-origin hotel company in the ranking. The Sustainability Yearbook 2024 was based on the 2023 Corporate Sustainability Assessment, an annual evaluation of companies’ sustainability practices, which covers over 9,400 companies from around the world.

900 600 wttc2

Casa de las Artes Opens its Doors in the Heart of MadridThe new Casa de las Artes, Member of Melia Collection has made its debut in Madrid’s literary heart, Barrio de las Letras. A must-visit destination for those seeking a unique and exclusive stay in the city centre, the new hotel holds a deep connection to Madrid’s vibrant cultural spirit. Its intriguing name embodies a singular concept: a tribute to the seven fine arts from Madrid’s literary heart. This modern tribute to art is a way to continue time-honoured legacies while reimagining new possibilities, creating a space where the contemporary and timeless can coexist. This opening marks the arrival of The Melia Collection brand to the Iberian Peninsula, joining other distinctive hotels in Spain, such as Hacienda del Conde in Tenerife, or Ratxó Retreat Hotel and Summum Boutique Hotel in Mallorca.

Unique Décor Inspired by Classic Spanish Literature

The interior design and décor of Casa de las Artes were masterfully crafted by architect Álvaro Sans and interior designer Adriana Sans from the ASAH studio, in collaboration with Melia Hotels International. Their work sought inspiration from a singular figure who shaped the aesthetic vision of this hidden gem nestled in the charming streets of Barrio de las Letras: Miguel de Cervantes. Revered as Spain’s greatest novelist, poet, and playwright, Cervantes, the neighbourhood’s most illustrious resident, serves as the guiding force behind Casa de las Artes. As a key figure of modern literature, Cervantes’ legacy inspired the mission of Cas de las Artes and no other artist could hold this place of honour like the “prince of wits.”

Casa de las Artes: An Immersive Cultural Experience

Nestled between Calle Atocha and Calle Moratín, Casa de las Artes offers a captivating experience for its guests, with a rich program of activities and events designed to immerse travellers within the seven fine arts. Guests can engage with culture through an array of workshops, temporary exhibitions, film series, and more.

Among its cultural spaces, the private cinema room is a standout. Inspired by the classic Hollywood screening rooms of the 1950s, it provides a nostalgic connection with the seventh art. Literary lovers can retreat to the library to unwind amidst the bookshelves in a cozy and peaceful atmosphere. The hotel also boasts a number of leisure spaces including a thermal pool and a fitness centre, ensuring both mind and body stay invigorated. Notably, the fitness centre features a unique space with a ballet barre, paying homage to the elegant art of dance.

A High-End Culinary Proposal

A key cornerstone of The Melia Collection, gastronomy plays a leading role in the hotel. MACHÉ, a restaurant whose name draws inspiration from the visual arts, has been selected to enhance this rich cultural journey with exceptional cuisine. Situated in the historic Spanish Railways Association building, the restaurant offers a unique fusion of culinary delights and live entertainment, transforming dinners into unforgettable evenings. Stained-glass windows and lofty ceilings create a breathtaking backdrop for a theatrical dining experience.

This remarkable opening is poised to become the must-visit destination for culture enthusiasts in Madrid, seeking inspiring experiences that allow visitors to fully immerse themselves in the city’s rich historical tapestry.
